We had the first snow of the winter season over the weekend. It was beautiful to awaken to the fresh dusting that happened quietly while we slept.The first snow is a great reminder that we'll be seeing this for the next 6 months and the real estate market is going to s-l-o-w down. Less tenants moving, although I did a move on New Year's Eve last year, less buyers looking. Sellers are out there but the prices are reflected in the season.I've got one beautiful townhouse left to rent for December 1st and plan to have a baby this weekend. Then hope to batten my hatches for the weather, focus on our fine tuning our goals for 2012 and work on streamlining our portfolio. 11/14/2011

What's For Lunch? Yummy Sprouted Bean and Veggie Soup! I'm a soup girl. Always have been always will be. From my childhood with chicken noodle and tomato soup with crackers, I could eat soup everyday. And sometimes have! I found this great sprouted bean mix at Costco the other day and decided to make soup for lunch since our furnace died on Friday and we can't get someone in to look at it until Tuesday... Did I mention it's 1 degree (celsius) here in Edmonton? Space heaters everywhere! I filled my pot half full of water and added chicken stock concentrate. 3/4 cup of the sprouted beans and 1/4 cup of Quinoa (keen-wah). Garlic and herbs went in next. Then, I added an assortment of veggies and brought to a boil and then let it simmer... The soup will thicken up because of the simmering, Q... 11/13/2011

A Horse Is Horse of Course, Of Course... Canadian Singing Horse I grew up around horses. My sister was and still is horse crazy. I was bit on my chest when I was 5 (was bruised from navel to neck and still carry a scar) and had nightmares (no pun intended) for years. I guess I got over them eventually, because my sister made me get on horses over and over again throughout my life. She never understood how I could be afraid of a horse. We even went on a trail ride on our Honeymoon in Jasper... This wonderful story about a woman and her horse was very touching. I sent it on to my sister, who raises Peruvian Paso horses for sale (AVO Peruvians) & competition, and wanted to share it with you as well! 11/13/2011

  I Remember... My Experiences with the Canadian Military. I have a charmed life. I know it. I have everything I could ever want and the ability to do what I want because of the freedoms I have. All of these freedoms came about because there are people who fight every day for me to be able to sit here at my desk and type this. I never thought I'd be able to help them at all, but I have had a few chances and I'm proud to say I was there. A couple times were at our military base in Edmonton, Greisbach,  which is home to the Princess Patricia II Light Infantry. There have been family days that I have been able to go and make balloon animals for the families while they enjoy a small family day before being deployed. Always fun and poignant, knowing in the weeks following the military parts ... 11/11/2011

  My Weekend Away With 100 Men, Yet Again! (Part One)   My husband sings in a Barbershop Quartet as well as a Barbershop Chorus. In the spring there was a regional competition to see who would compete in the nationals. Grove City Chorus qualified as well as the Cornerstone Quartet.   So Sept 30 at 1 am we hopped on a bus to go to Spokane so the fellows could compete. It was a long drive (14 hours) but we slept part of the way and then stopped for breakfast once the sun had risen.   Willy, one of the tallest guys on the bus, had the right idea and snagged the seats facing each other and dubbed it Willy’s crib! It was right outside the bathroom on the bus and he’d say, ”If you wash your hands, I’ll give you a cookie!” We brought our pillows, here's Dave getting comfy... Such beautiful sce... 10/24/2011

We've Added a New Member to Our House For Hallowe'en! I decided to decorate today and although I'm not finished, I had to show you the latest member to our family... We're not sure what to call him, our black cat is called Mook, and our tortoise shell cat is called Minnie, so maybe I could get some suggestions... Maybe Mookzilla... Meet Mr Mook, The Sultan of Snooze! Our cat Mook, will be 11 years old by Hallowe'en! (Fitting since he's a black cat!) He weighs 21 lbs and when that hits your bladder at 5 am, you know it! He's a real lovey-dovey cat and will purr up a storm and coo if you rub his ears. We discovered he squeaks instead of meows sometimes so his nickname has been 'Squeaker' on occasion. This is his favourite spot lately, on the day bed among the cushions, in our dining room. 10/18/2011
