You know.  There is always THE gift for Christmas, right?  Maybe as a kid, it's a bike.  Maybe a video game system.  Maybe it's something else.  But then, there is a special age.  It's a dangerous age. It's the age where they want a car.  Here is a great story from Jeff Dunham about just that.

Boca Raton: A Holiday Wonderland That Keeps Visitors Coming Back I have to admit, even though I’m not back in New York where I grew up,  December really feels like winter and there’s something absolutely magical about this time of year in Boca Raton. This South Florida diamond transforms into a festive wonderland, with twinkling lights, holiday events, and a community vibe that’s impossible to resist. Even just driving through the streets feels like stepping into a tropical holiday postcard. Palm trees wrapped in sparkling lights, cheerful decorations lining the roads, and a perfect blend of festive charm and warm weather, it’s pure paradise. For anyone visiting during the holidays, Boca Raton isn’t just a vacation spot; it has a way of capturing your heart. Whether you’re exploring Do...

I was going through my phone photos to clear up some space since I have so many community videos and photos that I've already done highlights on, I stumbled across this one that I took before a hurricane when I went to get some diesel for the tractor, and maybe a 12 pack of cold beers. Here in Polk County you can drive farm equipment on public roads *IF* you meet a few requirements. Hazards, a slow moving vehicle orange triangle on the back, and a seat belt. Oh and you have to be doing "Farm Work" Like getting fuel? Probably. Oh, Yes, it was me. I'm the redneck. The thing is I'm about a half mile from this gas station and I normally just fill the yellow diesel jugs, but this time the tractor was almost empty too so why not top everything off before a hurricane incase we need to do a lot...

Throwback Thursday Before there was virtual reality, there was View-Master! If you were a kid previous generations ago, you probably remember how much fun it was to pop a cardboard disc into the View-Master, turn the wheel and enjoy the 3-D effects. This toy was invented in 1939 and were very popular in the 1950's, 1960's, and 1970's. Unlike today's very expensive Virtual Reality Headgear and Arm Controls, View-Masters were reasonable and easily entertained people of all ages. The View-Master was first introduced to the public at the 1939 New York World Fair. They made great gifts and just about every kid wanted one for the holidays. By the 1940's, the Military recognized potential training purposes for soldiers from 1941 to the end of WW11 in 1945. The government purchased 100,000 view...

Every year on December 4, and this year on Wednesday December 4, 2024, we celebrate and enjoy Happy National Cookie Day.There is no record indicating origin of the Happy National Cookie Day started.Cookies arrived in America in the 17th century. Macaroons and gingerbread cookies were among the popular early American cookies. In most English-speaking countries outside of North America, the most common word for cookie is "biscuit."  In some regions, both terms, cookies, and biscuits are used. We can observe and celebrate the day with to eat delicious cookies.I want to wish to everyone at Active Rain community a Happy National Cookie Day.

Throwback Thursdays…A Bribe Never Hurts There’s nothing like a Christmas tree to get everyone in a holiday mood. Our tree is up and I know many of you here have your tree(s) fully decorated as well. When I was a little girl, decorating the tree was one of my favorite things to do. It was fun seeing ornaments I hadn’t seen in a year!!! However, I don’t know anyone who enjoys taking the tree and decorations down after the holidays. First of all…I love all of the lights and decorations…everything is so festive. But, let’s face it, the real reason we don’t like packing up all of the ornaments and decorations is that we’re tired. We’re pooped from family, festivities and feasts!!!  Have a plunder party!!! Larry’s mother had a plunder party when it was time to remove the decorations and dispo...

Lighting The Way this Holiday Season 2024                                   Help the Holiday Season feel Merry and Bright start by adjusting the brightness inside your home. Lighting plays an important role in setting the tone for a space, and the shade of the lightbulbs themselves can impact the experience in a room. Bright light helps a space feel larger and cleaner, whereas dim light makes the space recede and feel more intimate. . #HomeLighting #HolidayLighting #HolidaySeason #Remax #RemaxKat #RealEstateKat #RockStarKat #RockStarRealtor #KathyHyatt #KathyHyattSellsPlantation #KathyHyattRealtor #PlantationFlorida #SunriseFlorida #DavieFlorida #HyattRealtors #CooperCityFlorida #KathyHyattSellsSouthFlorida #PlantationAcres #JacarandaPlantation #KathyHyattSellsPlantation

No doubt we have all sung songs with our own made up lyrics. Sometimes we misunderstood the real lyrics and sometimes just for fun. When I think of twisted Christmas lyrics I figure We Three Kings must top the chart. I found an unusual BEAUTIFUL version of We Three Kings. This is exceptional on a high quality stereo system.Every year I look for an exceptional Christmas song. I'm still looking but this one may be in the running for this year.

I spent Thanksgiving with my son and his boys in Connecticut.  His girlfriend/partner embodies all the best features of Martha Stewart and their home is beautifully decorated with candles in very window, two Christmas trees and wreathes with lights everywhere - on the gates to the driveway, on the fence to the back yard and seemingly every window too. I hadn't even ordered my outdoor lights yet so I came home feeling rather ashamed of my slow poke attitude toward Christmas decorating.  I thought that maybe I could get Rudolf to cast a glow over my home with his red nose but I do understand that he is busy this time of the year.  Instead, I went to Amazon to see what I needed to buy and decided to try to go solar this year as much as possible because I am tired of looking for batteries i...

In the December 2024 ActiveRain Challenge, it was asked what the best gift to give might be.  To me, it is any gift from the heart. It doesn't have to be expensive, it just has to be meaningful.I think this resonates with me since I always loved the song and the meaning behind "The Little Drummer Boy".I remember for my 14th birthday, my parents took me to a restaurant where my brother worked.  He said "How would you like a brand new bicycle for your birthday?" Of course I was elated and enthusiastically said "YES. He replied, "Great, you come in on Monday to work and start earning it."  I worked there for 3 years and bought myself way more than a bike! Then, many years later, my wife and I had a great friend that worked at the same company as my wife.  When my wife was having a bad day, ...

Wordless Wednesday…Upside Down or Rightside Up? There are times when it’s hard to tell what’s rightside up or upside down. You’ve looked at the same person, house, building, plant for what seems like forever, and one day, something’s different. Are you standing on your head or has it always been that way???Sometimes, it’s best to take a step back and breathe. Life rights itself sooner or later, with or without you. Can you guess which picture above is right side up??? Sometimes the best thing to do is to take a step back and get a little bit of a different perspective and re-evaluate things. Austin Aries Sometimes you have to let life turn you upside down, so you can learn how to live, right side up.  Peter Tamas Mayer
