If living in a community that is serviced by Community Wells/Water Company, they are required by State Law to do peroidic testing.  The testing done is usually more extensive than is done on a private well when you are purchasing a home.  One of the newest Chemical Elements they are testing for is Uranium.  The EPA maximum allowable Uranium in water is 30ug/L.  If you own a home with a private well you most likely had the well tested when you first bought the home to make sure the water is potable.  Most owners don't ever give it a second thought after that.  Even when you do get a water test done it usually does not include a test for Uranium since it was not known to be a concern in the past.  This is somewhat the same story with Radon, and most of the buyers in the Northeast now have...

"Good Fences Make Good Neighbors," wrote American poet Robert Frost. Local Zoning Ordinances are different from town to town & your contractor may not always be aware or liable for a non conforming fence installation- so what to do?  If you are considering erecting a fence on your property do your homework. Conforming fences (6 feet & under) do not require a permit in the town of Brookfield. There are other regualtions that govern the installation though- like if you plan on installing a stockade fence where there will be a finished side & then a unfinished side (side that shows the posts) you will be required to face the finished side toward your neighbor or the street- basically you will not be looking at the finished side if you live in Brookfield. Less than common regualtions like t...

One thing that surprises people from outside of the Danbury area is that we are do not have large subdivisions of 75-500 + single family homes .One reason of we why don't have those large communities is that there is not much large parcels on land to built on. Typically new devolpments in the area are about 2 dozen homes & most of the time builders just buy vacant lots in established neighborhoods that is not too much larger than the existing homes. Towns also limit the number of homes that can be built on land because of the impact the new homes will have on the school systems. The towns in the Greater Danbury area also like to have some of the land preserved as open space. More often that not, most homes are on about 1 acre( depending on zoning), which will limit the number that were ...
