I'd begin interviewing now. Remember, the broker works for you and you have to find out who will offer you the most for what you need. Money isn't everything to start out with, you want to focus on training and offices that have integrity. You also need to figure out if you want to do residential, property management or commercial real estate.

Here in CT you need a Broker to sponsor you on your license app. So here we would be interviewing Brokers- yes, you interview them- atleast a couple months before you plan on taking your test.

Before interviewing, start determining what you want in a broker. Just like buying a house, write down your needs, wants, and nice to haves.  Set your priorities first.  Then start doing your research, on-line and with your sphere. What do your friends, family, co-workers, etc.. think about the brokerages in the sales area you are looking to enter? Then start interviewing. And interview with some brokerages that you don't think are a fit. See if your perceptions were correct? Be sure to ask about turnover ratios for new brokers. Ask to speak with recent hires. Ask what they like and where they would like to see improvements. 

One question I always ask towards the end of an interview - "what else should I be asking about; what else should I know about your organization?".  This is the "how do I know what I don't know question".

As to the timing of interviewing - do what feels right to you. You can start interviewing before, during, or after your licensing studies/testing.

AFTER you've passed your exams is time to carefully, CAREFULLY research. Create a business plan and see who fits in with it. Then interview. You'll need a broker to hang under, so the hire and licensing is somewhat simultaneous. Now is the time, once you have passed your exams and fingerprinting etc.

Better to ask to join their company.

1. Get some office near you.

2. Do not hunt for low split. Ask for training.

Once you pass, start interviewing. Go to a big, medium and small company. Go to a franchise and independent. Ask what they pay, what they charge and what they offer. Hands on Training, support and or mentoring?

Picking the right office where you can be mentored, have ready access to the broker for guidance, and where you can receive more training as you get started. Good luck! So exciting for you

if you've passed your exam, you will be in the system with the state once you apply for the license.... even if you have not received it yet....

at that point, you should start interviewing....not before you have your license...

Good question.  There is no set or recommended time that I'm aware of.  In my licensing exam cram class some people already had a Broker who had "hired" them (pending their license).  Some people get their education through Century 21 Real Estate and automatically get hired by that Broker.

 

You can reach out to different Brokers to see if they'll talk with you and what they're take on things are.  Look for one with training, classes don't prepare you for the real world.

You should start building connections now with attorneys, mortgage brokers, insurance agents and everyone that will be in your space. Publish some great content about what separates you from your competition. My bet would be that a very successful local homeoners insurance agent could be able to quickly refer you to a great BIC that you'd find a winning combination with.

This is actually a very important subject.

Why? You simply don't know what you don't know. You will be entering a gun fight with a stick. You can not recognize the lies you'll be told until you are exiting the business thinking you didn't have what it takes.

Here what you should do.

1. Get a copy of "On the Right Track" a guide for those thinking about getting into real estate.

2. The guide directs you to assess your skills, resources, experience and assets that are leveragable in your real estate business.
3. The part most important to you, and relevant to your question is the Real Estate Agent interview scripts. From the lips of the agents near you will come the attributes you MUST MEASURE in a broker. With the ability to apply real objectives measures instead of subjective feelings, puts you in a position to make a business decision  based on FACTS. That is a good habit for businesss folks to develop.

4. Your business plan will clearly show the broker the potential for wealth your presence in that office means. Do not sign with a broker who does not commit to getting you engaged in a transaction within 30 days. Failure to secure such a commitment is a red flag meaning you are simply going to be dumped into the deep end. If you haven't drowned in two years, the broker will try to take credit.

To answer your question, interview with brokers when you have completed the agent interviews and used that information to create your real estate agent business plan.
