Open your photo editing software, hit the icon that flips the image vertically/horizontally & save it. Then try uploading it. Love the dog, cute!

Glitches happen. Flukes too. I take a break. Go for a walk. Maybe swear a bit. Try again. Swear once or twice more perhaps. Repeat as necessary.

Open it up in an editor, turn it right side up, hit save. Then it should work properly.

I have never seen this happen. For me, when photos are being stubborn and not showing up, I just save to draft, close it and come back again and things usually work normally. The glitch is usually gone with a fresh start.

What has worked for me the very few times that's happened is to take a print screen of the photo, save it and upload that.

It usually has to do with the rotation of the camera when you take the picture. Peter Testa is correct about editing it before upload. Unfortunately, AR has no way to edit this after the fact.
Another option is to put the photo on your wordpress site, which does allow for editing after the upload. Then link to it here. It gives you another good quality backlink and if you properly use alt text, gives you a wider variety in your anchor text for a more "natural" looking link profile.

Another way is too rotate photo in your photo editor...save as a pdf...then save the pdf as a photo...cumbersome but works.

I typically only have that happen when I add it using a tablet. It doesn't happen on a laptop or desktop for me.
Another trick - upload it to your website first, then add the link to AR - I've never had it turn sideways doing it that way either.
