Whether it's a high end house, a 4 plex investment property or a small single family residence, one thing is common. That is... prospective buyers do not know how the house works.  In fact, most home owners do not fully understand how their own house works. 

Unless they have specific training, why should they? People drive their cars everyday and don't understand how they work. All many know is to just turn key and go until it hits the E and fill with gas and go again.  How many know why it's important to change the oil and filter every 3000 miles? 

     I"ve been a carpenter and in the building trades since 1976 in one capacity or another. In becoming a Home Inspector, I felt I really didn't need to get additional education & training but decided it might be best for a little "refresher" course. Boy, was I in for an awakening!  I realized how much I didn't know and it was much more than I care to admit! One thing I will admit, I continue learning with the  Inspections I perform and the continuing educational training I receive.  Thanks to CREIA & ASHI. It's my education I want to pass on to the home buyer.

     A Home Inspection is much more than finding defects and writing them on a report.  What's just as important is that the Buyer truly understands the problems and can plan accordingly.   When the Buyer walks with me, it is my goal they understand the existing problems, steer them in the right direction for service & show them how to maintain all the various systems (exception: pools & spas)to maximize their investment and safety. Most everyone enjoys the education and the time spent which flys by.
