Parking During the Snow and Snow Removal in East Greenwich, NJ Being a resident of East Greenwich, NJ I have subscribed to their newsletter. Today there was a friendly reminder of the protocol to follow for snow events. We just had about 2 feet of snow dumped on us this past weekend, and another foot or so is scheduled tonight. A Day in the Life of the East Greenwich Turkey Although while growing I lived only a town over from the East Greenwich area (Mickleton, Clarksboro, Mt.  Royal), growing up I never saw a wild turkey. In fact I don't recall seeing one in the wild until I moved back to the area. Nowadays, if I don't see them at least once a week I wonder where they have gone. While driving down the road it isn't out of the ordinary to see 50 or more out in a field at once. This picture was taken in my backyard. The turkeys are usually no issue at all and are fun to watch. However on this occasion, they decided to ransack my low-hanging bird feeder! My most memorable turkey moment was when a fawn's curiosity could not keep it away from an adult turkey. I am not sure how long these guys have been here, but one thing is for sure; They seem to be doing VERY well. When we first moved to Mickelton, NJ (East Greenwich Twp), we soon took notice of the large lobster-like creatures swimming below the bridge. I'd have to say we were all rather amazed at their size. From my fishing days when I was younger, I remember crayfish/crawfish being much smaller. These ones must have been feasting on the "Best in the world Jersey Tomatoes"! This isn't the first time we have seen these guys, but the pictures here are from outside the front of our house, in a development, in the street. This guy either crawled up from the sewer or he walked a really long way from the nearest water! I'll be putting him back in a safe spot. Maybe he will return in the spring... 11/11/2009

I finally got around to working on the yard, something that was WELL over due. We took the time to purchase some mulch and topsoil and have it delivered. I'm at the office finishing up work on Friday afternoon and get one of those "frantic wife" calls. Can you wonder why? Let me give you a hint ... My driveway: Neighbor's driveway: You got it! The truck driver delivered all 5 yards into someone else's driveway. They ended up shovelling the topsoil and bringing it to me, along with another load of mulch. They gave the miss-dumped mulch for free to the other home owner. The moral of the story We all want to get done work faster, especially on a Friday afternoon, but 10 SECONDS of verification/validation would have saved these guys over an hour. There's nothing like fixing a mistake at 6pm... 05/24/2009

The other day my dad and I put up a bluebird house in my backyard. We had seen about 6 bluebirds flying around as a group for a few weeks, and figured we'd give it a try. So he found a design and graciously built one for me. He brought it over and we spent a few minutes digging a hole for the post and putting it up. The funny thing is, is that I hadn't seen the bluebirds in about a week or two. But literally 1-2 minutes after we put the birdhouse up, I came inside, washed my hands, and looked out the window and there it was. It was practically magic. Career Day to me is something you see as a humor segment in TV shows or movies. So I was excited when I saw on my kitchen counter a paper from my daughter's school announcing Career Day and asking for volunteers. So what goes through my mind? The usual; Police Officer, scientist, or marine biologist. I made a comment to my wife about me going and sharing on my profession. Her thought of course was, "What kid in his right mind would want to know about mortgages?" Hey, they can be a little exciting to me. Its not like I would break out the Japenese Candlestick charts and talk about moving averages!  Sheesh!  "Now kids - explain to me how subprime lending has hurt our present economy ..."
