A short 22-mile trip from The Villages, Florida is a unique and historic town of Mount Dora.  I love Mount Dora and when I have folks looking at relocating or spending time in The Villages I always recommend a day trip to Mount Dora.  The downtown area has been preserved and reminds me of the downtowns of the 50’s and 60’s.  Bustling stores and shops and some of the best dining in the area along with the view of Lake Dora.  This from The Chamber of Commerce:“Mount Dora offers a unique downtown overlooking Lake Dora where you can take a leisurely stroll among the charming boutique shops, restaurants, and art galleries, or perhaps take a sea plane/boat/walking tour for an enhanced experience.”Speaking of sea planes, I attended a wedding held next to the lake and the groom and groomsmen ar...

As a taxpayer in Mount Laurel, NJ, you are required to make estimated tax payments throughout the year. Failure to do so can result in serious penalties and fees from the IRS. Let’s take a look at what happens if you fail to make estimated tax payments and how you can avoid it. Estimated Tax Penalties The most common penalty for failing to make estimated tax payments is the “underpayment of estimated taxes” penalty. This penalty applies when you don’t pay enough taxes throughout the course of the year and/or when your payments are late. The amount of this penalty depends on how much you underpaid, as well as how many months it was unpaid for. For example, if you underpaid by more than 10%, then you will be charged 5% per month until payment is made in full. In addition to the underpayme...

Have you ever received a notice from the IRS saying that you owe them money for unpaid taxes? If so, you're probably feeling panicked. After all, there's nothing more intimidating than the thought of having to pay back thousands of dollars in tax debt. Thankfully, there are several steps you can take to deal with your unpaid tax debt in Mount Laurel, NJ. Let's take a look at some of these options. Payment Plans The first step is to contact the IRS and set up a payment plan. A payment plan will allow you to pay off your debt over time instead of having to pay it all at once. Typically, these plans involve making small monthly payments until the debt is paid off. Depending on your financial situation, the IRS may also offer reduced payments or even forgive part of the debt altogether. How...

One of the many draws to The Villages is the nightly live entertainment at the four venues, the three squares and the new Sawgrass Grove.  Live music with really great bands echo through the squares 365 days a year from 5:00 until 9:00.  Seating is provided so you just need to show up and there are adult beverages available at each square with “Happy Hour” from 5:00 pm until 6:00 pm.Some of the Villagers follow certain performers from venue to venue which could also include country clubs, restaurants and the squares.  Many performers have Facebook pages and post their schedule monthly, a few are booked almost nightly somewhere.  I guess this senior citizen community has “Groupies”!  I do have a few favorites and where I live in The Villages I am 1 mile from Spanish Springs Square and 2....

Spring has Sprung, Happy First Day of Spring!!The calendar tells me that today is the first day of Spring, though you may not know it based on the depth of the snow in my yard.Maybe it has something to do with that groundhog that failed to see his shadow last month, perhaps we just need to be a bit more patient.Soon the snow will be gone and shortly after that we will be suffering the heat of summer, and wishing for a bit of snow.Lets hope that the spring and summer will be mild.Happy Spring!!

The Feast of St Patrick’s Day at the Crane HomeI am sitting here smelling the aroma of Corn Beef and Cabbage along with Shepherd’s Pie in the oven at the other end of the house.  It is an amazing smell that I have grown accustomed to every year for the past 30 years or so.  It is a time that the whole family and many friends always look forward to since my lovely bride always takes these things very seriously.  The results are very tasty and the family and friends that it attracts are so precious. For many in Wisconsin, it’s about green beer and an impressive amount of it is consumed around here.  But for us it is about the meal and family, and it is always nice to see how the kids and friends will plan their schedules around when Sally will be providing this tasty meal.I know that many ...

March 14, 2023 Pie Day, another Special Day for Foresters and other Math NerdsThis is a repeat post from a few years ago, re-shared again today to celebrate Pi day.My son Nick mentioned to me last night that he was going to head into town in the morning so that he could celebrate Pi day with a slice of Pie at the local café near where he is working in the woods.3.14, or Pi, is an important number to most Foresters and many others who rely on mathematical concepts to perform their work.In the work that the Foresters are doing today they are using two formulas over and over to do their work.First in determining the size one of the two parts in every plot they do; they must determine the radius of the circle that their plot must take in order to sample 1/100th of an acre of seedlings.Next...
