Happy 65th Birthday Disneyland! Sadly, I am sending this birthday wish from what feels like far, far away as Disneyland remains closed in the plague year of 2020 due to efforts to slow the spread of COVID-19. On July 17, 1955 the first theme park named for founder Walt Disney officially opened in Anaheim, California. Some of Walt's famous welcoming words from the opening day statement still echo throughout the park. Some can be seen posted on brass plaques at the entrance, while others are "heard" in Morse Code broadcasting from the New Orlands Train Station.  "To those who come to this Happy Place, Welcome!"  Walt Disney's revolutionary idea of a family-friendly amusement park was scoffed at by most folks as an ambitious folly. Executives at Anheuser-Busch flat out told Walt Disney th...

Here in Lake Arrowhead we enjoy our Farmers and Artisan Market on Fridays from 4:30 PM to 8:00 PM from July to September. You'll find some of the most amazing produce and lot of handmade items for sale. This morning I sat on my deck listening to the birds, and just melting into the view. It is so peaceful and calm here along Lake Arrowhead this time of year.  Did you know that blueberries are low in calories but high in nutrients? They are also known to lower blood pressure, and even reduce DNA damage. They are the king of antioxidant foods which help skin, improve mental health and can even help with maintaining healthy digestion, weight loss and so much more. I love to eat them all by themselves, but sometimes they are perfect over oatmeal or your favorite non-sugar cereal. Add them t...

A couple of months ago during shelter in place I was inspired to paint a bunch of round landscaping logs and lined my driveway with them. I found painting to be very relaxing and therapeutic and loved the uplifted feeling from the vibrant colors they gave me. Over the last few weeks I am now, for fun, learning how to paint rocks. Wherever my imagination can take me is how I design the rocks. While I am certainly not a pro by any means, I love how they are turning out. Sometimes, it's just the little things that makes us happy. Nothing fancy. Just a rock, some paint and a brush. There is nothing like hanging out on the porch, enjoy the mountain and water views, painting rocks and enjoying Lake Arrowhead living!

Lots Of Ways To Show & Celebrate Your Love For Cats & Dogs In The Month Of June  Adopt-A-Shelter-Cat Month is in June, sponsored by the ASPCA.  June is the height of "kitten season," when lots of litters are born and often abandoned at shelters. Adopt a Cat Month is sponsored in June by American-Humane, who have been supporting the health and safety of animals for 100+ years. National Pet Preparedness Month is in June. It's timed for the first month of the hurricane season to encourage pet owners who live in the path of hurricanes to make preparations in advance for their pets.  June 4 is Hug Your Cat Day Of course, those of us who live with cats most likely hug them all the time, but June 4th is a great day for a few extra hugs. Who doesn't love an extra hug or two? June 7-13 is Pet A...

Today, we celebrate the birth and independence of the United States of America. While the United States is still fragile with the COVID-19 pandemic, let us not forget to appreciate all of the wonderful things that we do have. Recently, I saw an analogy that I thought was very fitting during the time we are in. The time of so much hatred with riots, the time of concern because of a pandemic and a time of uncertainty with so much unrest. It goes something like this " Democracy is like a Garden and we have to be responsible for it. We have to tend to its care and keep out the weeds." As we persevere in patriotism and celebrate with fireworks, flags waving, cute 4th of July t shirts and accessories, let us remember the true reason we are celebrating today. And, let us be safe in doing so. N...

This post from Kat DeLong makes me wonder why I don't eat more blueberries.  I love them and Barbara Todaro is always telling me how healthy they are for me, haha. Logan, leader of an organization for Northern Civil War veterans, designated the observance on May 5, 1868. He called for a nationwide day of remembrance later that month. “The 30th of May, 1868, is designated for the purpose of strewing with flowers, or otherwise decorating the graves of comrades who died in defense of their country during the late rebellion, and whose bodi...

When a Southern Utah Wildfire Comes Raging!  It's one thing to write about how to prevent a wildfire but quite another when at your front door. Late yesterday afternoon and into the night, a wildfire raged through the town of Veyo, consuming all it it's greedy path. Our neighbors frantically loaded up their families, cattle, horses, turned their goats loose in an effort to outrun the destruction. Thankfully, due to the concerted firefighter effort, by land and sky, the threat was maintained. Living through a tornado was nothing compared to the terror I experienced yesterday, not knowing if our home and valued possessions would be turned to ashes. As I drove down the highway to safety, the tears flowed freely. The wind changed directions at the last moment right across the dirt road from...

Today we set out on a quick 3 mile hike in Patapsco Valley State Park, but decided a couple miles in to take the path less traveled. We are frequent visitors, and know our way around "our" part of the woods pretty well. Today though, we were curious, and feeling adventurous, and on a whim, turned onto an unfamiliar path. 3 miles turned into 9.5, one hour into more than four. We got lost in Patapsco Valley, and it was glorious! We cooled off in the Rockburn Branch, feasted on wild raspberries, and stumbled upon an old graveyard, and something that resembled an old gas station pump (?). We truly appreciated the Maryland Environmental Trust and all this land forever protected has to offer us, and even had a rare encounter with a black squirrel! While squirrels and I are not best friends (I...
