Riding the Logs Down Wisconsins First Highway, "The Riverman of the Wisconsin River" Mural   Being a great fan of local art, I often enjoy riding my bike through the downtown area of Stevenst Point where many small and large murals are painted depicting our history. This gem is located on the corner of Water and Clark Streets,  in Downtown Stevens Point. The Riverman Mural is a tribute to Stevens Point's strong logging heritage.  Logging was one of the first large industries to build our state and today it still is, though we no longer use river power to move these important resources from the woods to the mills.   This is the first of the  series of murals and wasCompleted in September 2004.                 This is also the first of many murals that I will be featuring in the next few...

Meade Park, a "Cant Miss" Attraction on Stevens Point's West Side   Great view of the Wisconsin River, Riverside Park and Downtown.   One of my Son's favorite parks due to the top class disc golf course.   Also a favorite of parents with small children with a Deluxe Playground area.   Adjoins the Green Circle Trail   And much more including a ball field and tennis courts.   As a bonus, if you would like to live near this fine park, it is only about a block away from our nice Cottage Style home at 1209 W Pearl St.                   View Meade Park, Stevens Point, Wisconsin in a larger map Zoom in for some great views of the many attractions in this park including the playground, tennis courts, ball diamond, disc golf and more.

Are Utilities Included?   From: jody ] Sent: Tuesday, May 14, 2014 6:54 PMTo: Subject: - $599 / 3br - 3 bedroom, near campus, hospital, and MSTC (Stevens Point, WI)   Are utilities included?   Thank you, Jody -----------------------------------------------------------------------   Hi Jody, Thank you for your interest in our home on Ellis St. We do not pay our tenants utilities for several reasons. First, landlords who do pay their tenants utilities need to make up for this wasted expense by raising the rent to a rate that is higher than the rent plus anticipated utilities. Second and more importantly, it is very bad for the environment when a landlord pays their tenants utilities. Utilities in these homes generally are consumed at a rate significantly higher than homes where tenants p...

Peep Show in Stevens Point Wisconsin. No it is not what you may be thinking and I generally avoid non Easter type Easter events because I feel that they distract from the real issue of Easter, but this one crosses over into the realm of Art so I thought I would violate my rules and share this Easter weekend art show event. 300 people were lined up to see this event yesterday at the Riverfront Art Center, where they could see Peeps dressed up and replicating all sorts of folks. But the one that I appreciated the most was the Easter appropriate depiction of Jesus and His disciples at the Passover meal preceeding the Passion. http://www.wsaw.com/home/headlines/Peeple-Flood-Art-Center-In-Stevens-Point-255898631.html

Trivia Weekend in Stevens Point is complete For many people around the country Stevens Point is a Trivial place, the annual 90 FM, WWSP Trivia contest that is. It is a time to party and stretch your brain as you gather with old and new friends, listen to the radio for clues and questions, then quickly research through books, newspapers, the internet and sometimes searching through town for the answers for important trivial questions.   Team Standings as of Hour Forty Seven Tied in 364th place with 0 points are 1 MAN - 1 MISSION - MR VAPORMAN.COM CLAYMAKERS IN A PUDDLE OF MUD COMMITTEE TO PUNCH TOM SCHRADER IN THE FACE EFFING CARL FROM THE BASEMENT I CANT GO BACK TO JAIL JOEY AND THE 45 ZEBRA CAKES RON YOUNG'S DAUGHTERS PLAY FOR MOM In 363rd place with 30 points is TWO HAULE'S AND A NATI...

Easter and Holy Week at Newman in Stevens Point. This is the week that we celebrate what it is all about, and I don’t mean eggs and bunnies. Starting Thursday evening we start the celebration of the Triduum, reliving a tradition that started when Jesus joined his disciples in an upper room to celebrate the Passover in a deep and special way. With a meal together, learning about service through the foot washing, learning about the Mass, and teaching them how to run the Church that He was getting ready to leave them with. It is a powerful week ending with the renewal of Easter; I highly recommend that you not miss a minute of it.           >> TRIDUUM April 17-20  >> Holy Thursday> 6P - Newman Potluck, Pacelli High School. > 7P - Mass of the Lord's Supper, St. Stan’s. > 7:30P - Mass of...

Stevens Point OFS, Hosts Regional Gathering The Stevens Point fraternity of third order franciscans, had the pleasure of playing host to franciscans throughout Wisconsin for the Central District Gathering. Though it was stressful planning the event, with the help of a very hard working group, it turned out to be a great gathering with many happy guests. Roxane Gill, Lucy Wysocki, and many others spent hours and hours cooking a fine meal and other food for the day. It was a day of learning, prayer and fellowship as we heard speakers, shared stories and lessons in the mission that Christ leads us on to care for His people.           If you are interested in learning more about this Catholic Organization, please give me a call or send a note and I will be happy to tell you more.   https://...

Negative 23 degrees, at least your Belts Ice Cream won't Melt! The sign has been up all week and we can see the Belts staff inside working hard to get ready for the grand re-opening of Belts Ice Cream on Saturday. The weather is currently a chilly minus 23 degrees and is not expected to warm up anytime soon. Many are wondering how many enthusiastic ice cream eaters will be camped out this year overnight waiting to be the first in line for this seasonal treat. As much as I enjoy winter camping and crunchy cold weather, I think that I will pass on this one. After shivering all night I would probably be in the mood for something a little warmer in the morning after a night in this weather. But I may stop by to take a few pictures of these ice cream heroes, gotta admire someone who is that ...

Books from the Heart, Helping more than just Children I received this letter a while back from a very special person at our local school, and thought that I would pass it on for others to help out too.  Contributing to education is never a bad idea, well educated people become successful citizens later, and the cycle keeps growing.  This is why I never balk at the huge amount of property taxes that I pay each year that goes to several school districts that my children have never even gone to.  I find it strange that so many seemingly intelligent people fight so hard to cut funding to schools using arguments such as "my children went to private school, why should I pay for the public schools", or one of several similar selfish narrow minded arguments.  We don’t pay for schools so that Ou...

Fall Bike Ride on the Wisconsin River (part one) Jack and I took a little time off this week for a bike ride in Riverside park in Stevens Point and thought that you might enjoy seeing another part of the great city of Stevens Point. We both enjoyed the exercise, scenery, and solitude of a park during a quiet time in the middle of the week, but Jack especially enjoyed the many ducks.  It’s that time of year when the ducks are getting ready to head south for the winter, with only a few more days or possibly weeks before it starts to ice up around here. This is a rerun from last fall that I thought you might enjoy a second time, I know that I enjoyed it again.

Welcome Back UWSP Students - Old Main, a bit of Harvard in Wisconsin   Old main is the oldest building on campus and always reminds me of our roots dating back nearly 120 years to when Stevens Point was selected as a Normal school or teaching college.   Old main reminds me of the Harvard campus with old buildings that are hard to photograph due to a plentitude of large dense trees.   These trees came in handy 32 years ago when I had Dendrology class at UWSP and many of the trees that we had to identify from across the nation were only found on the lawn in front of this building.   Now these trees enhance the beauty of this fine old building which is now used as the executive office building for folks like the Chancellor. Welcome Back UWSP Students Welcome back to the University of Wisconsin at Stevens Point, school starts this week and the town is buzzing with activity.  I have seen several groups heading down to Belts for a welcome ice cream break with old and new friends, and today many houses had yard parties as people gathered to reacquaint with old friends and meet a few more before the busy life of classes begins. For those who do not have housing secured, we have a few more homes available we just finished cleaning and repairs on.  And if anyone needs a couch or other misc. furniture, I seem to be developing a collection in one of my garages that I would like to get rid of soon. Jack and I took a walk around campus today and took a few pics of the buildings, people and art around campus; watch th...

Welcome Back UWSP Students - Inspiration at the Wisconsin Forestry Hall of Fame   The Forestry Hall of Fame is a pleasant place to stop for a rest or a place to visit with a friend while traveling through the College of Natural Resources at UWSP.     I like stopping by here to read a little about the movers and shakers of the past.  Over the years I have had the opportunity to benefit from the forests and companies that these great men have started and I am happy to see them honored here at such a fine College of Natural Resources.     I hope that by the end of my career that I will have accomplished enough to justify putting my plaque on the wall here.       More UWSP posts   Welcome Back UWSP Students - The College of Natural Resources (CNR) Welcome Back UWSP Students - Enjoy the CNR ...

Welcome Back UWSP Students- a Wealth of Art on campus   Like many Universities, UWSP has a wealth of art.   Today I mainly took pictures of some of the outdoor art.   You can find art in several buildings including the College of Fine arts, the Library, and the University Center.  You can also find it scattered around campus along the sidewalks and on the side of the CNR building just north of the sundial.   Some of this outdoor art is spectacular and some of is less about art and more about p.t. Barnum salesmanship (a sucker born every day) (like those chunks of rusty iron outside of the library).   This one could be a case of good salesmanship in that it is basically a big rock on a pile of dirt, but something about it strikes me in a good way, maybe it is all the foliage planted arou...

Welcome Back UWSP Students - The LRC aka the Library   This is the place that all serious students should be familiar with.   When I first arrived at UWSP over 30 years ago my favorite place here was the natural history museum on the ground floor.  I soon discovered that my grades were to survive I would need to use this place as a way to hide from my friends and the distractions that kept me from studying before the big exams.  My best study place was a private study room on the fifth floor which was private for a while until a few of my friends discovered where I was hiding and they came here to study too, luckily visiting was limited by noise rules in the library.     More UWSP posts   Welcome Back UWSP Students - The College of Natural Resources (CNR) Welcome Back UWSP Students - En...
