We have had an uproar about development of a third runway at Sea-Tac Airport.  When things got ugly, the gardeners knew what to do.   The Seiki Garden thrives again after many years beside the now-closed Des Moines Way Nursery.  Did we plow it under?  Thankfully no.  Many plants found safety at the City of Sea-Tac Botanical Garden.  Cities and neighbors  join in the effort to acknowledge and to preserve the gardening contribution of the many immigrant communities.  Japanese, Korean and  Latino, are just a few  that lend richness to the life  south of Seattle. Attend the celebration at City Hall, Sea-Tac  at So 188th St and Military Road.  Ceremonies at 2PM on Saturday Feb 7. 01/22/2008

I Serve on the Planning commission for Normandy Park and it can get--hairy.Last month we had such an scene.  As the commission discussed the merits of a wildlife inventory, one of us went wild.  "Otters, bah!  Piliated Woodpeckers are for the birds and foxes are only welcome in zoos.  This city is for the people, let the otters get a Pell Grant!I was astonished since I know neighbors who delight to the otters.  Those neighbors  even propose an otter crossing on Edgecliff Drive. I dreamed of this day for so many years. The day that the junk store "AAA Liquidating" in Normandy Park would burn to the ground. Don't get me wrong. The store had some cool stuff sometimes. Like the time when I was 13 and went in there with my friends and we purchased "stun guns" to zap each other with. BB gun wars started to get boring so we thought that stun guns would be fun. (by the way they hurt like hell and we went back to BB gun wars in the woods of Normandy Park instead, we figured shoting each other with BB's was much safer) But what if AAA wasn't there we would've never had the chance to maybe accidentally kill each other.
