There is a life principle, Don't allow people to waste your time a second time. It is a good thought to nip things going sideways in the early stages. Some Principal - Agent relationships are not meant to be. Some partnerships go bust fast. This applies more in business as common sense. With love and relationships and family, it seems it is blind or we go into a sacrifice area. But business settings you will lose precious productive time having the wrong people waste your time. Recognize this sooner rather than later.

Coming out of the election cycle where there was not only so much vitriol between the two major candidates personally and on their policies, but between their followers on social media it made me think of the children's game hide and seek. The objective of whomever is IT is to find the others out in the field hiding is a lesson we can take, particularly in NOT for business purposes talking at length or at all with religion or politics. That lesson is one of    INVISIBILITY.Not to dampen anyone's freedom of speech, or personal choice, or principles, but we could tone it down or there is a time and place to express our views particularly when someone could totally believe the opposite to you, and this discussion has nothing to do with business. Even toning things down will usually escalat...

There used to be a corn chip commercial where you would eat the chips straight out of the bag and then dip them in your tasty salsa and the manufacturer would remind you to eat up, don't worry, they'll make more. With thinking about TIME, it is humorous to think about SAVING time cause you really can't, it is a resource like the sand pouring to empty in the hourglass, that only can be spent. YOU CAN'T MAKE MORE OF TIME. Also, in your own individual life you do not know how much YOU or anyone else really has.Productivity can be thought of as doing things easier or in parallel although multi tasking it is said is not as good as single focus. But to not WASTE our time, a purely subjective thought, cause sometimes you enjoy wasting it, perhaps think of at least THREE things you highly value...

One thing you will notice in explaining real estate to clients with your experience and knowledge is they grasp these aha moments at points in time. The market is stronger than they thought, updating a kitchen provides more value, doing comps going back only six months is more meaningful, there is a difference in getting a mortgage from a bank versus a broker, lots of things...It is simple INSIGHT, what you might think of SHEDDING LIGHT on a subject. You get this in real life too, and in the area of self awareness I would encourage you to LOOK for your Shed Light People. They add CLARITY to the confusion, or the unknown. You see it in the health care field all the time coming up with a proper diagnosis and treatment plan to heal from professionals. Our shed light people can be ANYONE you ...

One thing I have noticed in the real estate agent business, IT IS A MESS from the start and never lets up through the transaction. Everywhere is the unexpected and you straightening things up and keeping things flowing to a satisfactory conclusion. In real estate and in life this goes hand in hand with problem solving and more importantly--Creating Order Out Of Chaos.I have had my own share of being the chaos maker but you are invaluable to others when you are the one adding ORDER to things. We see this all around us.Caregivers helping sick customers, family members or friends. Advice and counsel to someone struggling financially, emotionally, or psychologically.  Cleaning up a home that looks like it belongs on TV with the hoarders program. Cleaning out a garage for yourself or closets ...

I used to work for a corporate America company that had its U.S headquarters around Times Square in New York. In the evening after work when visiting there for meetings, I would wander that area to take in the scenery. I always admired street performers. I like the "pause in the busy action" of the hub bub of busy city street life they give us with people scurrying around, cabs, cars honking horns, the NYPD building with its armed guards on watch, etc. BUT it always made me think of our logical brain and emotional brain sides. Too often in life, we ignore art and beauty. We need to develop seeing this, and even creating this with our own life designs, and also appreciating art. ART, whether it be a bridge design over water, or just a guy playing a violin on a street corner ----TEACHES U...

As we enter the Fall season from Summer it is a season of change obviously, shorter days in the northern hemisphere, cooler temperatures. Change is persistent, and I think with frustrations, disappointments, even people as simple as not doing what they say they will do, or surprising you on the negative side, we need to develop a coping skill for better inner peace. One tip I pass on out there to you for some better mental toughness is this:Don't wait for an apology to forgive. With this thought in mind, YOU move on a lot faster. Some people will avoid you NOT to apologize as a matter of fact. Lots of game playing going on with human behavior you will note. You don't want inside you to allow grudges to grow. Inner peace think of it as smoothness inside not agitation. You want happiness an...

We have all seen this person on the road. Coming up fast from behind you and cutting you off then weaving in and out of traffic. The Lane Weaver. Dangerous. Must be in a hurry. Terrible driver. Agitated. Or crazy. Definitely scary. But it made me think in business and in life people that OFFEND you, you wonder why me? Sweet me? What did I do to them?  But the LESSON of the Lane Weaver? It is not YOU. It is them!! Notice they are doing that to everyone. Step back when people irritate, disappoint, frustrate, break your heart or hurt you. Something going on inside THEM.

I have been reading some articles on minimalist thinking and thought I would discuss it here briefly. It is essentially having an "enough" mentality. If you earned $90,000 a year you do not need to spend $110,000 a year. You live under your means. You know the difference between need and want. You can have goals to achieve but you are not overly materialistic. He that is RICHEST "Needs the least". It is a way to count your blessings better too. What DO you have? NOT what are you missing? What within your world do you have that money can't buy? Peace, relationships, health, satisfaction, even HAPPINESS? Often contentment is more important than yearning for filling a gap.Work some on your minimalism in your life. Your blessings will become more obvious to you.

Many DO work actually on Labor Day, whether it is YOU or others do not forget that. But the day is set aside to honor hard work, smart work, just work in general, cause work for ourselves and family, all work no matter what it is, truly is honorable. So "some time" during this period take a moment to RELAX and just remind yourself that you are doing a good job. A provider, an honest day's work. Another day another million dollars. Or working hard for those mediocre bucks. As we all know life is MORE than just work, but work is a big part of it, and do the best you can where you are until you get to the next best part. This Labor Day, it is ALL about YOU!!! R E L A X

There is a phrase in life that you go further depending on how well you solve problems. In real estate the agent puts a lot of parts together to get to the end result of a successfully closed transaction. In our health, our finances, our personal relationships, even our well being and happiness MANY pieces to put together. Think of it as putting a puzzle together in an orderly fashion meshing the parts that FIT correctly in place. If you have done jigsaw puzzles along the way,SOMETIMES easier said than done BECAUSE: where is that missing piece you can't find? Is it on the floor, lost, or was never in the box and available to begin with? 500 piece puzzles seem so much less frustrating and time consuming than 2,000 piece puzzles. Some problems require more time Teamwork helps. If someone e...

by Patricia Feager 8/23/2016 Love Where You Live- An ActiveRain Contest August  BIG DREAMS; LITTLE BUDGETAs a woman relocating to the State of Texas I didn't know a soul - except my Employer. That happened back in the spring of 1997. What I imagined was sprawling horse & cattle ranches occupied by oil men bathing in black gold. What I found was ordinary people with BIG hearts and lots of different cities without oil rigs and oil tycoons drenched in oil. My first initial contact, outside the Corporate World was my Real Estate Agent. She quickly did her best to acclimate me to areas outside the city of Los Colinas in Irving, Texas. Because I never had experience working with a Real Estate Agent (my first home purchased in Illinois was For Sale by Owner - BIG MISTAKE), I'm sure I drove m...

In our business and personal goals, it is so important to go tone deaf to the naysayers. We can do this essentially two ways. One, by pumping ourself up internally with positive self talk and externally with encouragers and supporters in our life, which give us tremendous confidence, and second steer clear of negativity whether words or people that are of that ilk. Who needs detractors? They drag you down. Confidence gives you single purpose and laser focus. Confidence adds fuel to keep you in a steady state of perserverance. Confidence allows your flame of desire not to flicker or diminish. Remember the story of the frog, and how "attitude" plays such a vital part in getting where you want to go.

Sometimes I sit down to write a blog post and I think my reader might say back to me, "Well DUH!" Statement of the obvious. But bear with me. The coming out of elections thought, elections have consequences, made me think ALSODecisions Have Consequences.Nothing more foremost in the mind in real estate as Location Location Location!! Affects commute times, schools, nearness of desired amenities, possible appreciation in values, foot traffic for commercial properties like restaurants, distance from family and friends, quiet or noisy environment, etc. Also with business associates or even personal relationships, you ARE a product of who you pickTO BE CLOSE TO YOU in your life. Can you trust them? Are they loyal? Are they just GOOD people? You will learn fairly fast with them if you stick wit...

I saw this fun cartoon about electronic devices in our lives and handling "multiple screens" with the information overload. And like you were a "weenie" if you just looked at one and could not multi task with the information overload. It made me think "Who is at the controls here?"Sure we have parts of our day seeing a show on TV or looking at news, playing games, checking email, texting, writing a blog, replying on Facebook, but WHEN do we turn it off?I have found myself putting a smartphone (or two) AWAY in a desk drawer, along with turning all computers and televisions and tablets OFF.Work on your boundaries, time on devices, complete silence with them, complete DISCONNECTION, as it is freeing and PROVES "who is in charge" with tools, devices, screens, "information." It actually give...

I am a big proponent of critical thinking constantly and evaluating new ideas to incorporate into your business or personal life "if they make sense". Everything NEW and shiny is not necessarily GOOD. In fact,    Sometimes Old Ways Are Better.Granted you can't fight progress and if 95% of your Christmas greetings are going over the web in email cards, your Hallmark one in the mailbox, sending to your list of 200 people might make you look like a dinosaur, but probably an appreciated dinosaur. Those bumpers on cars in the 1950's were DEFINITELY better. Having four social media accounts with their care and feeding each day, I don't know. A walk in the park seems nicer. I know, you can find Pokemon Go characters simultaneously. Before TV more family time, NOW many give up TV to get it back...
