The borough of Orwigsburg is marking its bicentennial this year and the committee has set events to celebrate it including the annual Memorial Day parade May 27, Heritage Day on Sept. 7 and the Festival of Lights on Dec. 7. A dedication ceremony to officially commemorate the bicentennial is scheduled for April 13, during which members of Schuylkill Masonic Lodge 138 will unveil the work they completed on the original clock from the Schuylkill County Courthouse, which was first located in Orwigsburg. The Orwigsburg Area Free Public Library will be holding its 29th Annual Holly Trail on Saturday, December 3, 2011. It has been a long tradition to start the Holiday Season on the first Saturday of December with a tour of area homes decorated for the Holidays. This year we have five locations including a local church featuring over 20 crèche displays.   Tickets can be purchased at the Orwigsburg Area Library for a donation of $13.00 through December 2, 2011 or for $18.00 on December 3, 2011. November 22  Drawing Class for Ages 7-11    The Arts Barn, 3 Berry Road, Schuylkill Haven. Taught by David Spavero. This class will present an introduction to drawing and sketching including sketching techniques, still life, perspective, and composition for beginners.     Orwigsburg Business & Professional Association    Orwigsburg Community Heritage Day was held on Sept. 10. 2011 after a one year hiatus.  The weather was outstanding, no rain for the last 5 years we held the event.  It was estimated that 3000+ attended the day.   There were 42 vendors and Eva Katherine, Orwigsburg's own, had more than 300 attend her show.  She is a 12 year old country singer and is really talented as she has performed in 55 shows in 33 different venues in 5 states.  Sterling Koch, a nationally known lap steel guitarist appeared.  He is also a touring and recording solo artist.  The Breaker Boys also appeared at 113 West Market Street and provided Early American music all day long.   The Pet Parade was the first annual with 33 entrants and was a big smash with all.  ... 09/24/2011

I've eaten at Madeline's Restaurant in Orwigsburg, PA a few times in the past few months, and been pleasantly surprised. I had eaten there when they first opened probably over 2 years ago and was not impressed at that time. I ate several lunches there and had mediocre food and service. Then I had one of the worst service dinners I have ever experienced--and I never went back again. The food was average and the hostess almost surly when we walked in. It set a bad tone for the entire meal. In September of 2009 I attended a business dinner and was seriously impressed with the quality of the food, and decided to give it another try. On Saturday, March 28, Healthy Habits Natural Market in Orwigsburg will be holding its first Coffee House & Art Gallery Night. The event begins at 7 p.m., and admission is free. The event will feature the works of local artists, courtesy of the Many Worlds Gallery in Pottsville, and local artist Bill Whalen's pottery will also be on display.
