Big Weekend coming up in the white mountains of New Hampshire...the Three day Holiday - Martin Luther King Jr. Weekend is upon us and all the ski slopes will be open at Loon Mt and Waterville Valley ski areas - in Lincoln and Waterville Valley New Hampshire.   The top of Boom Run on the South Peak Side of Loon Mountain - Features two brand new Expert trails Twitcher and Jobber. The North peak side of Loon's upper flume and Walking boss - have a ton of man made snow and the conditions are stellar. I really can't say enough about the new efficient tower guns - that make some incredible snow. Not in to down hill skiing? The South Mountain side of the Loon Mountain ski resort has shaken off the  “it will never happen” nay Sayers’ that predicted high end homes wouldn't fly in this conservative New England resort town. I haven't seen so many guns going at one time in a number of years. At this pace I would assume all of the South Peak slopes will be open be the weekend. The North Peak Trails were all up and Running...all were in nice shape, I skipped Upper Walking Boss as that too had more than 30 snow guns blasting away. It was a dark-ish day today and snowed intermittently - that combined with the New tower guns, made it a light lens day for goggles. I took out my brand new skis today...that truly shows faith in the ability to lay down the man made stuff...and not ruin a new pair of skis. The Report of the Rossignol Statos - Gs 183 cm...was a resounding thumbs up BTW. The two new trails opened for this season on the South Peak side of Loon (Twitcher & Jobber) presented a nice fall- line, great pitch... 01/05/2012

  Talking about the weather may be superficial, but not when you work in the ski resort industry. Freezing rain doesn’t make for great ski conditions – it does however make for beautiful glistening trees especially when the sun hits them just right.   On this Christmas Eve – Eve, here is wishing you all some Holiday Cheer.   Loon ski report…my first one of the 2011-2012 season. December 14th 2011 – sadly was my first day on the snow this year.With the lack of the natural stuff…I wasn’t in a rush to get on the slopes.But I was pleasantly surprised today. Sure there wasn’t much open, but what was wasn’t bad…top to bottom runs, the Gondola and two other chairs were running and the trails were groomed quite nicely.   I began to question if today was the day to strap on the boards, as the misty fog in the parking lot at my arrival wasn’t a cheery sight. But I was dressed to ski and by gosh that was what I was there to do. When I reached the top of the mountain it was snowing lightly and looking much more like a winter wonderland than the parking lot. Yes it's time to start thinking about the upcoming ski season. Killington Vermont has already opened, Bretton woods Resort in Twin Mountain New Hampshire opens the day before Thanksgiving, Loon Mountain ( on turkey day) and Cannon Mountain in Franconia New Hampshire the day after Thanksgiving.   Greetings from Loon Mountain, We're making snow fast and furious whenever temperatures allow. With 600 powerful, energy-efficient tower guns added to our snowmaking arsenal in the past 2 years, it won't take long to blanket the slopes. We've made snow on Sunset, Lower Walking Boss and Haulback. *On the Bridge Front - Hurricane Irene tore down part of the Main Access bridge to the Loon (the south mountain bridge has been in use since August 29th). The Department of Transportation has been working on a temporary replacement span for this winter.                                                                                                                                                      What do you do the first Monday after rolling your clock back an hour? I decided to run up to the Franconia Notch State park and watch the sun climb the mountains. The Moon was still out when I jumped out of bed...and the day is off and running.         Just the top of Mount Lafayette shone the sun as I entered the Notch park way in Lincoln New Hampshire.   The Beavers have been very busy at Profile lake...but I didn't see any creatures at this hour on the morning.                                                                                                         There is a monument that marks the spot where you would stand for the best... 11/07/2011

Over the years I find myself going to the familiar spots and look out points...especially when there is a blue sky day and the photo op is just right. The funny thing about that is, in time I have ended up with similar shots from the same spot in many different seasons. ..  The fall foliage gives the heart shaped tree a vibrant color, the deep Green of summer is lush, late fall proves to be the undoing for the leaves of this beautiful tree. But I'll be back to shot you when the snow covers you too.   Starting in the late fall things get very brown...with a touch of white on the 5,000+ foot peaks as a sign of winter.  Just two weeks prior a mix of winter and fall joined to illustrate the color of the two seasons as the merge.  April of 2011 - the only color on the trees are the evergreen... 11/06/2011

After the fall. Comes our next favorite Season...Winter, better known as ski season in the White mountains of New Hampshire. I only have a handful of 6 month ski season rentals remaining...most have been booked for the season by families securing their winter accommodations. What a great combination of Color and just a touch of snow - to let us know this too shall pass. It is very hard to see - but the peak of Mount Moosilauke is wearing a snow cap. Just a hint of things to come.   Mount Liberty - the very last of the foliage fades to the dusting of snow. Are only visible on the summits above 4,000 feet. The three pictures I chose from Lafayette - Moosilauke and Liberty are all closer to 5,000 footers...and always the first to show - snow and the white caps every year.
