Pool Rules: Marina Del Rey, CA 90292   Sometimes you see something and it triggers a lot of brain activity and a lot of questions come to your mind. Now looking at this picture a whole flurry of questions entered into my head. The least of which was to enter the poolJ !   Well let me start by:   ·         Why was this sign made   ·         Who decided to order this sign   ·         Who will quiz the public before entering this pool   ·         Who will admit that they had or have this problem   Anyway this photo was taken in Marina Del Rey, CA in a very nice lush resort style community. The guilty shall remain nameless.   IF you are looking to buy into a pool community the best advice I can give is make sure the chemicals and the condition of the pool are properly maintained, cleaned ...

The Villa Marina Community: The best kept secret in Marina Del Rey, CA   Most people drive by this fantastic townhome community on their daily commute to other parts of Los Angeles and do not even think about checking out this hidden diamond in the Marina Del Rey Condominium Community. What makes this community so special is that it consists of 18 independent villas, consisting of 685 Townhouse style condominium units. They were built in 1966 and went under the radar for many of the buyers for various reasons. One reason was that this community is not on the beach and many buyers passed it by. The community has mature tree lined street sand each of the 18 villas is very lushly landscaped and they each have their own community pools. The best of both world, having your own virtually priv...

See the Marina Del Rey FIREWORKS! Thursday, July 4th 2013!     I would like to extend my gratitude to the uniformed service members, veterans, and their families whose continued sacrifices have made celebrating the Fourth of July possible for the past 237 years and counting. I thank them for our freedom.       In observance of Independence Day, remember Safety first and keep Fireworks Shows to the Professionals. The 2013 Marina Del Rey fireworks is a much loved annual event. This year just as usual the Fireworks will be staged from the entrance to the Marina Del Rey Harbor.           Great Viewing Spots will be at Burton Chase Park & Fisherman’s Village. Needless to say the home owners at the Silver Strand only need to go to the top of their roofs J       If you were planning on watchin...

Marina Del Rey: Notice of Public Meeting about the Oxford Retention Basin Multiuse Enhancement Project   The County of Los Angeles Department of Public Works will be holding a public meeting to present the Oxford Retention Basin Multiuse Enhancement Project. So what does this mean in English?   The Project is designed to enhance flood protection, reduce runoff pollution and significantly improve the quality of plant and wildlife habitat within the area as well as to make it aesthetically appealing.   All this sounds like a great idea. My only concern is that this is another continuation of removing “non-native trees and plants. The trees and plants will be removed and the site will be replanted with a more native and drought-tolerant plant life. I am all for providing new recreational a...

Marina Del Rey’s Farmer’s Market @ Mother’s Beach Thursday s 9am-2pm I am thrilled that Marina Del Rey has its own Farmers’ Market on Thursdays. This was the second Thursday that they held the Farmer’s Market. It was created in conjunction with what we call Beach Eats on Thursdays, this is when Gourmet Food Trucks arrive and from 5pm – 9pm there are all the Food Trucks you can imagine or want. (I have written about Food Trucks before). Needless to say I could hardly wait to go, fortunately Real Estate has been keeping me busy (unfortunately for me & the local Farmers) I had to miss the Grand Opening. As you can see the View is not bad from the Farmer's Market:) The Parking is in Lot #10 (25 cents for each 15 minute period) located at 4101 Admiralty Way at the corner of Via Marina, Marin...

Marina Del Rey, CA : Breaking News another minor Earthquake at 8:14 pm tonight! Ok I was on the computer responding to a Counter Offer on one of my transactions which I am negotiating. No I was not cookingJ but this one was a “snap” I immediately went to the US Geological Website to see what magnitude this earthquake was. According to the site it was only a 2.8 magnitude. Hence I suspect this one was closer, because it felt stronger than the one we had Friday (3.2) hence I know it was closerJ.    ( http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/map/ ) Those of us who live in Southern California are accustomed to the little rattlers of our life and as I stated time after time, it is well worth the trouble for the great life style and comfort we enjoy living here. No Storm, no Tornadoes, no Nor’e...

Marina Del Rey: Breaking News Earthquake Rocks Marina Del Rey, CA   I was prepping Dinner and Diane was feeding the cats another normal Friday evening at home. Then at 7:52 pm the ground shook, Diane was on the floor feeding the cats and said”… did you feel that?...” As I was chopping onions for my Seafood Risotto I indicated “yes”. My guess was about a 3.1 since the pictures did not shake nor did the nick knacks on top of the furniture.   Well it turned out the Earthquake was 3.2 and it was about 1.5 miles south east of Marina Del Rey I.E.:   about 1 mile from where we live and about 2miles North of El Segundo.   A map showing the location of the epicenter of Friday evening's quake near Marina del Rey, California. New Couch ,  no New Sofa Bed: whose is it? It’s my CouchJ! No their Sofa Bed! The other day Diane decided to get rid of the old Couch and get a new one. Not only is it a Sofa it is a Bed too. Keep in mind; she wanted the best, since we are expecting visits from friends and her father during the year. She did not want to put them in a Guest Suite near, where we live; rather she preferred her father and our friends to stay with us. So after a detailed internet research and personal visits to two different Bed Stores we decided on a Queen Sized Sofa bed. Not too large, hence it does not dwarf the living area. The Sofa Bed is actually custom built. I did not realize we had to pick the size, style, quality of the mattress as well as the overall  quality of the other materials and of course t...

Cucumber & Tofu, what can I make? Good thing I am not on the Iron ChefJ I only have to make one meal out of these ingredients and not fiveJ lucky me! Clean and thinly slice the cucumbers (Japanese, or Persian cucumbers) do not need to cut the skin since they are so fresh. Sprinkle  the cucumbers with seal salt and leave for 20 min or so until soft and the rinse and drain. In the mean time cut Tofu into strips of about half inch wide (extra firm)  Broil in oven for about 10-15 minutes until the Tofu Gets firm and little brown. While the Cucumbers are marinating and the Tofu is getting firm prepare a dressing for the Tofu and the Cucumbers.   Dressing:   1 table spoon of Mirin   2 table spoons of Honey   1 table spoon of Soy Sauce (low sodium)   3 table spoon of rice wine vinegar   1 egg ...

Tabbouleh with a Twist: Raw Cauliflower Tabbouleh When I lived in Boston, MA I had been invited by a Lebanese Family for Dinner, hence I had the pleasure of eating Lebanese Tabbouleh.  Much of what you will see and eat as Tabbouleh in this country has little resemblance to the original or Lebanese Tabbouleh.  Of course there is nothing better than a controversy as to who created the original Tabbouleh? Was it the Lebanese or was it the Israelis? Either way, most people around the world when they hear Tabbouleh think Lebanon. To make a fantastic Tabbouleh, the most important tip I can give you is to get the freshest ingredients, especially the flat-leaf parsley or better known as Italian Parsley. So if you want the ultimate meal I suggest for this specific meal you must go to your neare...

How is the Marina Del Rey, CA Luxury Condominiums Market? It has been refreshing to go out to a function this evening and be asked: how is the Real Estate Market. Have not heard this type of questions in a positive frame in years, hence it was fun to say”... The market is fast. ..Inventory is short, more buyers than sellers hence prices are increasing…” Then to be asked how is the Luxury Condominium Market now that was even more interesting. I was happy to report that the high end market is moving and confidence is back. The key points to remember are that the property needs to be well priced, and properly staged for the current market. In English that means that well priced and properly marketed Condominiums do sell. Condominiums that are overpriced or have something intermittently wro...

A casual walk in Marina Del Rey, CA 90292 on January 1st, 2013!     Last night we decided to get up early and watch the Rose Parade on TV. Well we got up early and watch the countdown to the Rose Parade too. Then we decided to take it easy all day. I made small bites to eat. Will post about them laterJ       Diane kept saying after about 2pm that ’… it is starting to warm up let’s go for a walk…’ So by the time we went out it, was about 3:30pm and the temperature was somewhere around the ‘50’s. So a little walk turned into an hour and a half stroll. Luckily today I only had about a handful of client emails to handle so it was a very casual and relaxing walk.       Check out these pictures and seeing them you understand why we are so grateful to live in Marina Del Rey, CA. After all it i...

The Holiday Boat Parade in Marina Del Rey, CA 2012 in Marina Del Rey, CA 2012 celebrates it's 50th Anniversary!  The last time I wrote a Blog Post about the Holiday Boat Parade was in October 2010 (http://actvra.in/MJ8), ironically I was looking forward to seeing it that year. Then a personal tragedy happened and I missed the parade. Then I had some business conflict in 2011 and I missed it again. This year I did not even focus on it, since Diane was having family issues. So as I was pulling into our complex I was surprised to see all the additional Security? I had to ask as I was wondering what was going on? I was informed that today is the Boat Parade. Then it hit me that this was the 50th Anniversary of the Marina Del Rey Boat Parade! Armed with my trusty Blackberry and a large glass...
