Thank God it's Sunday--- not Friday, but Sunday-My-One-Day of rest each week. It's a great time to sway in the hammock and ponder, read a book, take pictures, write in my journal,  take the dogs on a really long walk, invent something new, hang out in the cottage, hula hoop, pick oranges, play Frisbee, pull weeds, clean the house (I really do like doing this), redecorate. reinvent, refresh... and just imagine. Sunday in the Hammock Of course, the weather is always wonderful here in San Diego and La Mesa.  Hope you save some really special time for yourself, too! P.S. I'll be back at work the other 6 days, so if you're yearning for a place of your own in San Diego or a fantastic La Mesa home, just visit www.barbfischer.com

Why has La Mesa CA been designated a Tree City USA since 1980? First, we've adhered to the 4 standards set by The Arbor Day Foundation and the National Association of State Foresters. These were established to ensure that every qualifying community would have a viable tree management plan and program. A Tree Board or Department A Tree Care Ordinance A Community Forestry Program With an Annual Budget of at Least $2 Per Capita An Arbor Day Observance and Proclamation It is important to note that these were also designed so that no community would be excluded because of size. When you drive or walk around La Mesa and Mt Helix, you're surrounded by trees of all types, sizes and ages. Now add in the unique architecture of the homes-- no endless cookie-cutter communities here!-- and you've go...

An intriguing history of Mt Helix in La Mesa CA: It started with 40 acres of neglected orange and lemon trees on a granite boulder-covered hillside east of La Mesa. The year was  1903, and William Gross, a vacationing theatrical producer from Philadelphia PA , was visiting a new acquaintance, Ed Fletcher,  in Lemon Grove, and asking about investments. Mr Fletcher knew of an intriguing possibility–The Villa Caro Ranch, on the picturesque hill  overlooking the El Cajon Valley. The land, complete with home, was in foreclosure and the bank wanted $11,500; Gross wrote a check for $5750 and financed the rest through a San Diego banker. Even though Fletcher was a produce salesman and inexperienced in real estate, Gross put him in charge of the management aspect. Fletcher appreciated the sweepi...
