Why I Love Thanksgiving! Thanksgiving is one of America's greatest holidays. I know other countries and people have Thanksgiving type days, but ours is the best because it really celebrates what this country is about. First of all it is a religious holiday without being religious. The Liberty Lions Football Team Ended their season with a Thud last night.   However, just like Charlie Brown there is always next season and eternal hope. For my son Nelson Big Number 78 playing on the JV Team this Sophomore year, this year presented some real challenges which (more off the field than on) he has handled with real character. What amazes be about teenagers is the same sloppy, lazy, and inconsiderate kid can rise to extreme levels of maturity, character and sensitivity. But his story of this season is for another day. I have been thinking about how sad I will be when he is gone and I won't be able to see him play on Friday Nights. Brentwood aims at specialty niches to attract business By Rick Radin    Contra Costa Times   Jeff Cohen, CEO of Halt Medical Devices, is the exact brand of high-tech executive Brentwood leaders would like to see more of.   Cohen opened an engineering facility six years ago for his business that has just completed U.S. Food and Drug Administration clinical trials for a device intended to remove uterine fibroids, benign tissue growths in the uterus, without major surgery.   The fibroids can grow large enough to cause pain in the back, abdomen and pelvis, bloating and very heavy menstrual bleeding. Brentwood plans stricter review of future big-box stores By Paula King Contra Costa Times After several weeks of public outcry over the potential effects of a Walmart store potentially coming to Brentwood, city leaders took the first steps this week toward more strictly regulating future big-box retail stores. During a Thursday afternoon workshop, the City Council directed city staff to outline zoning changes that will mandate more discretionary review of large-scale retail projects for stores. The proposed ordinance will go through public hearings by the Planning Commission and City Council and, if approved, will require a conditional use permit for all commercial stores measuring 75,000 square feet or more.
