I know it is a "breach of etiquette" and that I stole the line from the movie, A Christmas Story, but isn't this movie the perfect example of a huge fish story. Actually, the movie is a collection of idealized, nostalgic stories all wrapped into one big fish story. There is the lamp episode, the red soap moment, the dog eating the turkey fiasco leading to the Chinese Dinner, the bully incident, and every kids worst nightmare, the pink bunny pajamas. Many years ago, Santa bought me red pajamas. Pajamas must be the most obligatory Christmas Present of all time, right behind socks and underwear. My pajamas had a back button flap over the derriere area. It said, "An Affair to Remember" on the front. My mother was horrified. 🤣
Who can forget Santa kicking poor Ralphie down the slide after he asks for a Red Rider BB Gun punctuating the kick with a hearty, "you'll put your eye out, kid." My favorite though is the frozen poll incident. A group of kids debating licking a frozen pole. Urban legend married with, Truth or Dare!
My point, fish stories can be about anything. They can be nostalgic, as Brian England showed us in his, Lost in the Mall, post. What a scary moment for any parent! I lost my Joseph in a filled to capcity SF Giants Stadium when he was 3. It was a heart stopping moment. Aura Alex showed us in her enlightening post, The Amazing Fish Story! Salmon Migration, that they can be stories with positive messages. And Patricia Feager, MBA, CRS, GRI,MRP showed us that they can be stories that may or may not be true in her entertaining, Smelt Fishing, Post. They are all worthy entries.
Here is the best part. The rules have changed for our fish story post. The new rule, inspired by popular demand, is for a fish story of 500 words or less. Come on! Tell us your fish stories. It is now super easy and I triple dog dare you! ! !
And make sure to answer those 21 questions. Inquiring minds want to know. 😉
See Truth or Dare, Fish Stories and Our August Challenge, for list of questions and rules.
Thank you for all of your help, Margaret Rome Baltimore 410-530-2400. I think the challenge is going well so far.
