If you've got any special requests for certain English places, just drop me a line and it could be featured next!
Today we're talking about Guildford :-)

Guildford, in Surrey (South East of England), is a rather nice little town which more than a handful of my colleagues have called 'home' over the years. I grew up ten minutes down … (11 comments)

One of our readers saw us talking about Chester yesterday and felt compelled to tell us about their home town with a similar name - Colchester.
Colchester, in the East of England, is officially the oldest recorded town in … (8 comments)

england: I may not be at Connect, but I have American candy! - 07/25/08 02:24 AM
Well I'm kinda overexcited right now, I just got a big delivery of groceries from my gorgeous friends Gia and Grant from Realseekr.com. I can't put into words how excited I am about my new goodies, so I made a video instead.....and to all those who have been waiting to hear my British accent - enjoy! LOL!!! … (15 comments)

england: A walk around London, England... (LOCALISM FEATURED) - 07/14/08 04:41 PM
I guess this would be a Localism post, but my neck o' the woods doesn't feature on Localism. That's one of the downsides of being a British gal posing as an Anaheim resident! But I thought I'd give y'all a little insight into my part of the world anyway, the glorious capital of the United Kingdom! Maybe this will even be the first of a series of London posts? Who knows. Thanks to Carolyn for the inspiration!

I live and work right by here, Tower Bridge. It's one of our most iconic landmarks so it can be battle to … (81 comments)

england: British property news in a nutshell - Thursday 29/05/08 - 05/29/08 12:32 AM
Lots of activerainers contact me saying they're interested in finding out how the British property market is getting along in these difficult days, so I'm going to start doing a daily round up of the key goings on here on this little island! It may not all be relevant to you, but I firmly believe there's always a possibility to learn from each others markets - heck that's why I'm on this US site in the first place :-)
So, here's our hot property stories of the day...
House prices fall at fastest rate since records began. Okay that’s not necessarily … (4 comments)

england: Lunt - What's in a name? - 04/09/08 10:43 PM
When I was little I remember reading in Smash Hits magazine (a fine publication) that a girl had persuaded those who lived in her cul-de-sac to officially change the street name to ‘Spice Girls Close’. I was insanely jealous and expected my parents to move across the country immediately just so I could live in a street named after every 10 year old girl’s heroes. We didn’t move, I quickly got over it.
There are plenty of wonderfully weirdly named places in Great Britain, be it Donkey Town in Surrey or Splatt in Somerset. I certainly wouldn’t want to live in … (4 comments)

england: Dining room, what dining room? - 01/30/08 03:14 AM
A report in the Telegraph, about a survey by Halifax Home Insurance, which was blogged about on FSBO, which you’re now reading about here on ActiveRain (blimey) has found that by 2020 the humble dining room will have disappeared from British homes.
Just this year over half a million Brits will be demolishing their dining rooms, in most instances to make one larger living space. I guess this is understandable, open-plan living is highly desirable and, with many of us eating our dinner on our laps in front of the TV, the idea of a whole room just for dining when … (2 comments)

england: Deck the halls...just not if you want to sell your property! - 12/13/07 01:03 AM
I blog from London, England - may explain any strange turn of phrases :-) Today I'm thinking about Christmas decorations. No, not the tasteful ones in the privacy of your own lounge, the giant flashy trashy ones the whole street can see on the outside of your house. Every town has a street where the neighbours go mad with LEDs and extension leads, where I grew up, it was Glebe Road. Mid-December we’d always venture down there to see whose house looked the tackiest, it’s become such a competitive sport that Hollywood are even making films about it.
And the issue … (0 comments)

england: You've got big news, but how do you tell people about it? - 12/07/07 03:20 AM
There's nothing worse than when hard work goes unrecognized, so if you've broken your back on something to improve your business - then how on earth do you make sure you get noticed?
This morning I had a gorgeous piece of news to wax lyrical about, the property search engine I work for here in rainy London had started to offer national listings. As you can imagine, this is huge news for us - suddenly we were offering a service that all of merry ol' England could enjoy - not just those in the capital. But without a large marketing … (2 comments)

england: To swim or not to swim... - 08/30/07 10:35 PM
Remember: I blog from England, which should explain the pound symbols and rarity of having a pool in the backyard ;-)
I just read an interesting article debating the value a swimming pool can add to a property. The obvious opinion is that having a swimming pool is a great selling point, but if you dig a little deeper are they more trouble than they're worth?
I know someone with a great garden and, to top it off, a great pool. At least it could be a great pool, I wouldn't know, it's been covered over for the last decade or so. … (11 comments)

england: Anyone on vacation to Europe in September?! - 08/14/07 01:27 AM
Out of 42,869 ActiveRainers I'm going to take a longshot that at least a good few will be on vacation during the first week of September...and perhaps a couple of you will be heading to Europe.
Okay, it's unlikely!
But if anyone does find themselves in London on the 6th of September then I'd love to see you at the Web 2.0 and Property Seminar I'm organizing!
It's free and it should be a whole lot of fun!
If you'd like an official invite then let me know!

england: PLEASE HELP! I’m organizing a seminar on Web 2.0 and Real Estate! - 08/01/07 11:00 PM
To those of you who don’t know me (I say as though I’m some sort of Hollywood starlet!) I work in London, England for a property search engine - www.zoomf.com. We’re kind of similar to Zillow and Trulia and we’re pretty darn new.
In the UK, agents do not understand the potential of the web and what it can do for the business. Most agents have websites, but they’re poorly maintained and often emails don’t get responses. Ask one what a blog is and you will get a rather blank looking face staring back at you! And as for an online … (2 comments)
