video: VIDEO? What's stopping you? - 06/28/11 06:10 PM
Yup – Just do it!
Nike nailed it.  It doesn’t matter if it’s blogging, podcasting, running a Facebook Page, or twitter.  It could be writing a novel, or beginning a new career in photography or running a marathon.  None of it happens if you don’t first START.
As it pertains to this topic (getting started in video) the people I see generally fall into one of three categories.
I’m UGLY and I’ll never start doing video
No matter what, this group will always feel they don’t look good enough on camera, they don’t like the way they sound, they don’t know what to say or … (16 comments)

video: One Take - 01/26/10 12:37 AM
I want you to watch this video.  The band is the same one that brought us that beautifully choreographed music video using 6 running treadmills.  It’s funny and entertaining but that’s not why it’s here.
When you watch you might notice that’s it’s one take. It’s called a “Long Shot“.  No cuts, no edits. Turn the camera on and Go!
I also LOVE the creative use of camera angles!
OK Go - This Too Shall Pass from OK Go on Vimeo.
The reason I bring this up is this.  Often times we’re presented with opportunities where we get one shot to make … (5 comments)

video: "Zappos and Amazon sitting in a tree…" - 07/22/09 11:30 AM

Image by ShashiBellamkonda via Flickr If you haven’t already heard, “Amazon.com buys Zappos.com”
Ok, maybe it’s better to describe it as “acquired” as it’s apparently a stock deal.
I met Tony Hsieh, CEO of Zappos in Las Vegas last year.  Transparency is his game.  He walks it and talks it.
Putting yourself in Tony’s shoes…
If your company was just acquired by another how would you like (as an employee) to hear about it?  How about a very lengthy email answering every possible question an employee might be thinking?  Easy to do.  Let’s also add a bit of humanity and … (5 comments)

video: a Tale of Two Videos - 06/04/09 07:03 AM
This is not yet another WordCamp post - really!
I wanted to illustrate two very different video approaches I came across, both covering the same conference.
I would like you to watch them both and then I want to ask you a couple of questions.
Don’t cheat…
Video 1:
Video 2:
Done watching both?  Good.  Now answer a couple of questions.
Answer each as honestly as you can.  I do not know either of these people personally.  There are no wrong answers.
Which video did you watch all the way to the end? Why?  Did you find yourself looking … (5 comments)

video: Say Hello! - 03/26/09 04:03 AM
I want YOU to Say Hello! As you may know I am a huge fan of Video and an even bigger fan of Hyper Local Video. Many times when I watch a local video I know about where it is but would love to "see" where it is on a map.
That's how I came to create the Google Map Mashup you see at the bottom of the page below. Start by watching this video:

http://www.viddler.com/explore/mikemueller/videos/42/ The best part is that you can enter your own video and become a point on this map too! Just follow the simple instructions. Shoot … (11 comments)

I’ll be Live on Twitter Tuesday Radio Show today at Noon EST.

I mentioned yesterday that the Chat Room just can’t be missed.  One of the best features of the Chat Room is that you can easily share Links.  Links to particular posts, sites and pages that are being discussed.
Today we’ll be talking about two different things, Video and LinkedIn
This is just my way of being a Boy Scout.  I wanted to be prepared to quickly cut and paste any link I needed and have them all in one place.

video: This has to be the Best Video Introduction - 01/26/09 06:00 AM
Maybe the BEST Video Introduction EVER!

This was done by Time Dalkat on Seesmic if we’re voting soon, Time wins hands down!

I’m off to check out his Blog: http://timedalkat.com
Time, I loved it!  My biggest question is after something like this - how are you going to be able to follow it up?
: )

As a Real Estate Professional you wouldn't do an introduction like this but can you see how a little humor can capture the attention of a viewer?

video: Always Use a Tripod - 01/15/09 01:04 AM
It’s funny, as a motorcyclist we have an acronym.
ATGATT It’s pronounced just like it sounds.  It stands for All The Gear, All The Time and it serves as a reminder to wear your boots, pants, jacket, gloves and helmet when you ride.
I was trying to come up with something clever for using a Tripod when shooting video.  Nothing I have come up with sings.  AUAT? (Always Use A Tripod).  Oh well, let’s just make it simple:
“Always Use a Tripod” or something, anything.  Something that holds the camera stable.
Always use a Tripod
Here’s a couple of simple … (24 comments)

video: Understanding Video Delivery - 12/08/08 02:00 AM
If you just re-entered the world of video - Welcome Back!
For many readers the following is going to be a little too basic.  But for some people, this just may save a relationship.
Let's just say your new flip camera arrived today...

Great!  And you just captured a 5 minute clip of little Susie’s 3rd grade play!  Uncle John back in Cripple Creek would love to see this.  Maybe you even learned how to edit the video.  Good for you!  I can understand how you might think video delivery options might not seem so important right now.  You’re … (13 comments)

video: Video is great, but which one? - 09/03/08 12:56 AM
MyTechOpinion asked…
What technology product or service has made the biggest impact on your real estate business? And why?
The biggest impact? The simple answer is, Video of course!
No other technology that can do what video does. Nothing!
Nothing delivers the emotion, the passion, the sense of humanity in such a short time that video does.   But when we talk about video, which video are we talking about?
Think of it this way.  My wife likes shoes. She has cute little ked’s, running shoes, clogs, flip flops, flats, slingbacks, Mary Jane’s, Mules, and those Expensive Italian Pumps.
Just as the … (11 comments)

video: Viral or Stealth Marketing? - 07/10/08 03:18 AM
My 14 year old daughter and her friends saw the "popcorn" video on YouTube.
Your friends have probably already shared it with you as well.
Will the radiation coming from your cell phone actually pop popcorn?

By watching that video you might think so.
The truth is that the video was faked. (sorry) It was produced by a Bluetooth manufacturer, Cardo.  Here's their CEO explaining the video on CNN.
They say they were just trying to make a fun compelling video.  Or was their idea to scare the little old ladies into finally springing the $70 bucks for an earpiece?  … (3 comments)

video: Video is now Searchable (and being Indexed) - 07/01/08 06:25 AM
That's right.  Let me say that again.  Video is now searchable and being indexed by Google and Yahoo.
Thanks to Adobe Systems who came up with the technology for search engines to read SWF files and index all of the information they contain.
"We are releasing technology to Google and Yahoo that enables them to crawl and index SWF files. They are now searchable. This will open up millions of Flash files to search."
They (Adobe) passed that technology off to both Google and Yahoo yesterday.
Why is this so important?
No matter what format you create your video in, when … (15 comments)

video: Embedded Video Commenting Explained - 06/24/08 03:50 AM
This started as a comment reply to Lisa Hill and I realized would be better as a complete post.3 very different terms to be explained here.
Embedded Video (in red) Video Commenting (in green) Embedded Video Commenting (in blue) Let's start with Embedded Video.  Sometimes we accent our posts by adding a video. It might be a song, it might be a funny, or it might be something of importance to the article.  Those videos usually live on a YouTube server but because we've embedded them - they show up here.  Jeff Turner's video on embedding video is embedded here.  ( … (6 comments)

video: Embed This Video - 06/23/08 05:38 AM
Embed This Video I prefer you did, but it doesn't matter if you do or you don't.  The conversation will still happen.
As I was walking into a BBQ the other day, the thought "I wonder what we'll be talking about" zipped across my mind.  They all know I'm in the mortgage biz, we have an active foreclosure and a short sale in our neighborhood.  Naturally I figured the conversation might be centered around those two houses.
My point is, you never know where the conversation is going to lead.  While you might expect it going one way, sometimes it turns … (7 comments)

video: Testing Out Video Commenting - 06/20/08 05:36 AM

WARNING:  If Video makes you squeemish, this isn't going to be for you.
Stop!
Go back!
You are going the wrong way!

Still here?  Good!
Seesmic has a great product that allows video commenting embedded directly into the video.
You can comment directly from the embeded video, and your Vcomment then shows up in the stream (to the left).  Everything in our western world runs left to right, so why didn't they put the newest to the right?
Anyway, spark up the video camera and let's see if this works...
