The country clubs in The Villages, Florida all have a theme and Evans Prairie is no exception.  As an extension of Brownwood Town Square the western flair is very apparent, the rustic décor is a welcome change to the other country clubs in The Villages.  Here is the description from their website:“This comfortable neighborhood restaurant brings a new American cuisine stimulated by our interpretation of Florida flavors, with a focus on fresh, clean, and local products. An eclectic menu filled with delicious fare and handcrafted cocktails made from scratch will be sure to delight the palate, while staying reasonably priced.   Getting out of debt can be hard. I know; I’ve been there. When my husband and I got married, I came to the wedding with a car loan, student loans, and a handful of nearly-maxed-out credit cards. That debt that had been a nuisance as a single person suddenly felt like a huge weight now that we were “grown-ups.” Since I’d quit my job to move with my husband, I had time to make paying off debt my highest priority. Here’s how I did it. 1) Know Where You Stand The first step is to know what debt you have. You can’t get somewhere without knowing where you are now. Get a piece of paper and write down every debt. Figure out the balance, the interest rate, and the scheduled or minimum payment each month. This part can be a little scary or sad. Try not to get caught up in the emotions. This is...

NATIONAL BLACK FOREST CAKE DAY: MARCH 28TH March 28th is National Black Forest Cake Day, or Schwartzwalder Kirschtorte, as I grew up knowing it. Black Forest cake originated in Germany's Black Forest area. It's said that Black Forest cake originated as far back as the 1500's when chocolate was first available in Europe. Written recipes for Black Forest Cake did not become available till the early 1900's. It's considered the most "German" of all cakes.  This was my favorite cake as a child and it remains my favorite cake to this day. I can't think of anything better than layers of chocolate cake soaked in cherry kirsch, whipped cream, chocolate, and black cherries. "You are my black forest cake... filled with dark red mature cherries and soft sweet whipped cream... always the perfect tr...

Spring Cleaning TrendsSpring is a time for rebirth and rejuvenation. It’s time to eliminate any accumulation of dust, stale air, grime, or clutter that can breed bacteria and other contaminants. You can easily freshen up with simple tricks while using a system for pacing yourself to avoid becoming overwhelmed. Here are some tips for tidying up and deep cleaning your home as springtime approaches. When you don’t know where to start, think of spring cleaning as a series of phases. The first phase should be to downsize or declutter, the next to surface clean, and finally, to deep clean. Within those phases, you should begin by creating a checklist. Start by going from room to room to see which areas need the most decluttering and last cleaned a while ago. Then start with the following:Organ...

If you have not had a chance to look at the beautiful home on Sanders Street in Auburn, AL with the tulips blooming everywhere I would encourage you to go and see it. It is absolutely lovely. I had a real treat on my walk past it yesterday and am sharing a few photos showing how beautiful the yard is with all the tulips that create a gorgeous masterpiece.   The owners of the home planted over 1200 tulip bulbs over the last few years. The owners are  Mary Lou and Dan Ponder and they were awarded the Loveliest Village Award last week to recognize their efforts in revitalizing their property. Not only did they plant tulips, but they added a French drain and planted native plants commonly found along local waterways beside the creek bed. The small bridge over the creek bed along with the l...

March 25th is Maryland DayMaryland Day is a legal holiday in the state of Maryland. It is observed on the anniversary of the March 25, 1634, landing of the first European settlers in the Province of Maryland, the third English colony to be settled in British North America. Maryland Day commemorates March 25, 1634. On that day, settlers disembarked from two small sailing ships - the Ark and the Dove - on to Maryland soil. At St. Clement's Island, they landed in what is now St. Mary's County, Maryland. The Maryland settlement was authorized under the charter granted June 20, 1632, by Charles I of England to Cecilius Calvert, Baron of Baltimore. Traveling on the Ark to the new colony, Leonard Calvert, Lord Baltimore's brother, led the Maryland settlers. The purpose of their voyage was not t...

It was announced yesterday The Villages, Florida purchased 900 acres in Lake County for 7 million dollars.  The property is located to the southeast of the current areas being developed currently by The Villages in the Mascotte, Florida.  The Villages currently is estimated to be 57 square miles or 36,480 acres with the additional property The Villages will be close to 60 square miles. To give you an idea of how big The Villages is if you drove from the northern most point of The Villages to where they just purchased land it would be a 45-minute drive or 32 miles.  It is hard to believe The Villages started out as a small mobile home park in the 1970’s with a few hundred homes to what it is today! The joke is someday I can get to Disney World in Orlando by golf cart, well only 29 more mil...

MMM! For this month's marketing meeting, we didn't stay as local as we usually do. We had plans to visit a few specialty stores in Hyattsville, MD to hunt for new staging supplies (multiple listings are in the works) and decided to just pick a place nearby. Shagga is an Ethiopian restaurant serving up the most flavorful and colorful dishes. It's rather unassuming from the outside, sitting right on busy Baltimore Avenue, but the interior is cozy with just a few tables, colorful artwork and mouthwatering aromas. As soon as you step inside, your tastebuds will dance with anticipation! The service was warm, friendly, and fast, and the food was just absolutely delicious. I tried a combo of vegetarian dishes (salad, cabbage, split lentils, and split peas) and Cherie had a taste of the chicken...
