CBS reports on the “Fraud of Plastic Recycling” ~ 5 to 6 percent of it is actually recycled.CBS calls out plastic industry over “Fraud of Plastic Recycling”, see newscast from April 14, 2024.About 48 million tons of plastic waste is generated in the U.S. each year; only 5 to 6 percent of it is actually recycled.Plastic is made from oil and gas, Big Oil and the plastics industry have deceptively promoted recycling as a solution to plastic waste management for more than 50 years, despite their long-standing knowledge that plastic recycling is not technically or economically viable at scale. Visit “Center for Climate Integrity” for full report.Since the 1970s, major petrochemical companies, plastic manufactures and members of the American Chemistry Council knew that the majority of plastic...

Years ago when I joined an organization, Resource Associates Corporation now known as the Trusted Advisors Network, I relearned the importance of measuring my efforts.  One of the words of wisdom I learned was:If You Can’t Measure It, You Can’t Manage itBeing always goal driven, sometimes I often failed to include a measurement (excluding dollars), a number, a goal post, a mile marker whatever one wishes to call it.From that day forward, I have always made sure to include a measurement.  Here in Active Rain, I have monthly points as well as benchmarks (measurements).  Each month I measure my success including blogging points, features, standing in AZ, etc. One of my colleagues provided an Excel spread sheet that allows me to measure my real estate sales leads.  Even with a very good CRM...

Balsamic Fig Reduction: one of my favorite meal enhancers... I remember many years ago when I bought a Balsamic Vinegar with Fig infused and I paid top dollar for it.After I tasted it, I decided that was the last time and I will make my own. Needless to say you do not need to pay top dollar and can make your own.Every year I would take some fresh figs and then do my own reduction and infusing it with the fresh figs. This year there were hardly any fresh figs on the market, so I bought some dried figs. So, with that said here is my recipe for the Balsamic Fig Reduction:1. Quarter the figs about a handful plus2. Add two bottles of Balsamic Vinegar from Modena3. Boil it for about 20 minutes or so4. Then reduce the heat and continue for another 15 minutes. Basically, convert and reduce the t...

The 48-Hour First Right of Refusal is a clause commonly found in lake home real estate transactions. It can also be referred to as a "kick out clause." For example. If you are a buyer who has a house to sell first, the seller may accept your offer with a 48-hour first right of refusal (FROR). The seller will continue to market their property. If they find another buyer with an acceptable offer, they can come back to you and invoke the 48-hour FROR. This means you have 48 hours to either remove your contingency and move forward with the purchase, or back out of the deal (with no penalties to either party). In short, if another buyer is interested in the property, the person with the FROR has two options. They can either buy the property or decline. Letting the seller accept a contract fr...

It's Sunday morning again! As the week flew by, these posts (for one reason or another) caught my eye:Andrea Bedard: Fair Housing: military status, a new protected class in Maryland  This is a good idea that might have a few unintended consequences.  Many of the comments are as interesting as the post!Alan May: Dance like nobody's watching  There comes a point in every ActiveRain bloggers experience when you figure out that you can't buy Jimmy Choo's with AR Points!Liz and Bill Spear: Ask An Ambassador: I Don't Have Time For This! So this is great advice for bloggers with writers' block, or maybe what I call "thinkers' block".Jeff Dowler: Update on our Monarch Butterfly Nursery  There is something about monarch butterflies that is beautiful, fragile and especially magical. The American Association of Daily Money Managers (AADMM), is a professional society for people who provide invaluable services to their clients. I'm drawing this description right off the national website:  Bill paying, including calls to payees regarding incorrect bills and preparation of payments for client approval. Reconciling checking accounts and investment statements. Preparing and making bank deposits. Organizing tax documents. Negotiating with creditors. Reviewing medical insurance papers and verifying proper processing of claims. Providing general organization of financial papers and systems. Referring clients to legal, tax, and investment professionals and to community resources. I've had the pleasure of remotely partnering with a DMM. I got our client's paperwork in physical...

While I have only been on the 'Rain for a little over four months, I am not qualified to give blogging advice or tutorials just yet.   That being said, I am going to do just that, anyway! In my 130 days here, it seems as if I've read  In the competitive world of real estate nearly 130 times in different blogs.  Everyone knows that it is competitive. At times, there seem to be  3 million agents and 3 million sales.  There are at least three prolific agents who work my marketplace.  It is more competitive than the American League East.So my advice is to avoid using that tired old cliche like phrase.  We know. https://michaelelliott.fathomrealty.com/

Marketing, Visibility is so important, not just in Real Estate... I am a huge fan of good marketing. Not just in Real Estate but in all products. If you recall I did a blog post about a fantastic pickle that we saw on a main road between Marina del Rey and Los Angeles International Airport as in LAX. I am a fan of it and support the product. Now with that said the other day I had to go pick up our Jill from ASAC the Vets Specialty Group... Diane was already there my job was to get Jill home. Now with that said on the way I saw this truck see both photos.Great Marketing as far as I was concerned. Now on the way home I saw this sign, keep in mind it is a very busy street Sepulveda Blvd on the West Side of Los Angeles. It was clear to me they are targeting the affluent parts of the Greater...

I attended a cancer research fundraiser recently. The featured speaker was exceptional. Her name is Courtney Clark, and if you have a chance to hear her, it will be well worth your time. She shared a series of personal stories about the detours life throws at us, but there was one line she shared that stood out. When she was checking on one of her colleagues with an exceedingly difficult cancer, he said, “I’m not entitled to easy.” What an insight for someone on a shortened life schedule. If you’ve been in the real estate business any length of time, you know it’s not always sunshine and roses. It can be downright difficult and challenging at times. There are good reasons why so many new agents don’t make it through the first year. I’ve seen a growing number drop out is less than six mon...

It’s everyone. (It’s you too. Just read.) Security goes against our core beliefs. Security is not natural, it’s not normal, it means that we don’t trust others. However, we trust by default. Not trusting others is actually a learned behavior. Security means that you are aware that there are others out there that may choose you as their target. That’s not normal. It’s not natural. No-one wants to think they are a target. What’s normal is that we live happily ever after, we live together as one species in harmony. We trust each other, we are good to each other, we treat others as we want to be treated. We don’t hit, hurt, harm or take from one another. We are civilized creatures. However, there is a small percentage of predators, uncivilized beings, we call them sociopaths, psychopaths, and...

Sandpoint Realty 'Thursday Thought' stresses how easily we can throw the 'moment' away by being somewhere else.As alluded to in this weeks 'Monday Motivation' we all too often ignore the present for what we may think will happen in the future, or in dwelling in the past.  Again Seneca's words prove to be timeless.   'Experience the Difference' in working with a full time Professional Sandpoint Realty REALTOR®.  Your wants and needs will always be my priorities.  Mark Don McInnesBroker - Owner208 255-6227SandpointNorthIdaho.com - North Idaho Home & Land Searches Sandpoint Realty LLC1205 Highway 2Sandpoint, Idaho 83864

Sandpoint Realty 'Monday Motivation' is timeless, as is confirmed by the era of the author alone.  This quote brings forth the reality of needing to live for the moment, not tomorrow's or yesterday's.  And while tomorrow or yesterday are important, neither more so than the present, for it is at that time both our memories are made and futures built.
