(Keller Williams Realty)
Are you thinking of moving away from the DC suburbs?  Many people in Northern Virginia are migrating outside of the hustle bustle of their closer in town homes.  Jefferson County is receiving a lot of interest because of its cheaper cost of living, availability of more open space, yet still offering commuting ease and conveniences close by.Jefferson County is attractive because it is the easternmost county of West Virginia and offers the ability to commute to businesses in Northern Virginia.  It is bounded by the Potomac River and Maryland to the north, the Blue Ridge mountains and Loudoun County to the east, Clarke County, VA on the south and then Berkeley County, WV on the west side.  It is approximately 212 square miles.  Its municipalities include Charles Town, Ranson, Harpers Ferry...

Down the Lazy River!  A Hot Weather Adventure in Harper's Ferry, WV In a couple of months, it'll start to get nasty here in Washington, with the air getting so humid you can almost swim through it.  And as the hot and sticky summer days approach, and it's time to start finding relief, Harper's Ferry, WV is a great place to start. At Harper's Ferry, Virginia, West Virginia and Maryland all come together, and the Potomac and Shenandoah Rivers meet. The town itself is charming and picturesque, with old historic buildings and homes that make you want to knock on their doors to see what's inside.  Well, some will actually let you in the door, as many are set up as museums.  But the cure for hot sticky summer days is down on the water, where there are rafts and tubes just everywhere! If you'r...

Tuesday's Trip - Harpers Ferry, WV We took a couple days and got away.  We didn't go far, we went to Harper's Ferry in West Virginia.  Harper's Ferry is only about an hour and half from our home in the Towson area so it's easily a day trip but we made it an overnight voyage.  Harpers Ferry is the site of one of the major battles during the Civil War and changed sides upwards of eight times through the War.  Because of it's location at the confluence of the Shenandoah and Potomac Rivers the area was very important to both the Union and the Confederate Army's.  This past weekend was the 150th Anniversary of the Battle at Bolivar Heights.  In celebration of that Park Rangers from the National Park Service re-enacted some of the events and gave demonstrations of artillery.  During the summe...

What Would You Name YOUR House? Here is a house that I just learned about this past week.  It was built by George Washington's youngest brother, Charles, back in 1780. Charles Washington surveyed Charles Town and named all of the streets.  'Happy Retreat' is what he named his home.....and yes, George Washington slept there on a regular basis.   A newly formed group called 'The Friends of Happy Retreat' is raising funds to purchase this property in order to secure it for the public.  I sincerely wish them well in their efforts. ( heck, I'd LOVE to tour this house!) I visited Charles Town last week while accompaning my Mom on her trip home.  Mom grew up in Burkittsville, home to the Blair Witch movie.  (Remember that?)  I enjoyed the trip to Burkittsville, but I have to admit I was int...

"Almost Heaven ~ West Virginia" It's true.....it is almost heaven in West Virginia, along the Potomac River.  I'm so happy to bring this photo to you.  It is one of the first that I have taken with my new Nikon high definition Coolpix S4100 camera.  I feel like the ripples across the river are within my reach, don't you?  (no, this is not a commercial for Nikon, but I've got to tell you -- it takes much, much clearer photos than my old camera) I cannot wait to take new, updated photos of all of listings!  The new HD images will feature these properties oh-so-much-better!  I believe my clients will be very, very pleased. In the meantime, enjoy this beautiful blast from the past.........

I Found A Little Pink House in West Virginia!  I just returned from a trip to Maryland and West Virginia with my mom, Mary Jane Scruggs.  She will turn 80 in September so it seemed fitting to take a trip down memory lane with her.  There are many stories to tell about the various towns and childhood memories that Mom shared with me this week.  For instance, I took a touching picture of Mom sitting on the steps of her elementary school.  I promise I'll post it a little later this week. In the meantime, I wanted to show you an adorable little house that is located just outside of Harpers Ferry, West Virginia.  The first thing I noticed was the pink color.....the second thing was that it is a 'Women's Club' house.  I'm a member of the Pennsville Women's Club, so I recognized the insignia ...

I had lunch today with a good friend and sometime real estate investor.  Its been awhile since we've gotten together, just the two of us, to catch up on life, work, family, etc. She's always checking out local Jefferson County, West Virginia listings through my website and asked how busy we've been. Well, I told her, the first part of the year was great!  Lots of first time buyers worked with us so they could benefit from the tax credit.  However when that little gem went away, it seems lots of buyers went away too!  And having just read Lenn Harley's excellent post MORTGAGE INTEREST RATES - THIS WEEK - JUST WHEN I THOUGHT IT COULDN'T GET ANY BETTER, IT GOT BETTER!!   I told her I really didn't understand this phenomenon. Lenn makes a great point that with interest rates this good, MOST...

One of my favorite parts of selling real estate is meeting new people. I am definetly people person, so selling real estate is the perfect job for me. Last December, I got a new client from a desk duty call. We began looking at houses and put a contract on a short sale. Months later the contract fell through, but we started looking again and found an even better house. Yesterday my client Bobby, closed on that house. I am very happy for him, he found everything he wanted, in the exact location he wanted to buy. He has worked hard to get to this point. I would also like to thank him for his loyalty. Having a contract fall through, is sometimes hard to get through, but he kept me as an agent. It is great to have made a sale but its even better to have made a new friend. Congratulations Bo...
