The Greenbrier's first annual tree lighting event was a great success.  It was cold waiting for Santa to appear for the tree lighting, but we were entertained with Christmas carols by Frank Cappelli and Company, and served hot chocolate and apple cider.   When Santa appeared at 8:30 p.m., he thanked everyone for coming out to help celebrate this event and for bringing a "Toys for Tot" gift.  Santa and the crowd counted down and the lights of a 90 foot tree came on, as well as the lights for all the animated holiday displays.  To my surprise, The Greenbrier's entrance was all lit up as well.  It was indeed a holiday extravaganza.       The 90 ft Christmas Tree is in the background     The Greenbrier Lights Up Afterwards, my husband and I go inside The Greenbrier, not only to get warm, b...

The Christmas shop opened at the Greenbrier in 1996 in a former historic train depot dating to 1931.  The best thing about the Christmas Depot Shop besides the Christmas ornaments, collectible Santas, nutcrackers, water globes and holiday decorations, is that it is opened year-round.  In each of the six rooms of the shop you will find beautiful decorated Christmas trees. The Greenbrier's premier "Prime 44 West steakhouse, honoring West Virginia's native son and famed NBA player Jerry West opens on schedule today, October 1.  I was invited with the news media today to visit the new restaurant and the Tavern Casino.  What an experience this was for me --  I met Jerry West and the new owner of the Greenbrier, Jim Justice. Jim Justice said "the restaurant was completely transformed into an upscale steakhouse.  We worked a lot of nights so we could open on schedule.  The kitchen is state of the art and is one of only four in the world.  The reservations are skyrocketing."    Natural and dark woods combined with bold and traditional fabrics complement the collection of memorabilia, creating a "diners club" experience.  The warm, intimate ambiance is enhanced...

Driving into to the Greenbrier Resort today was different, as work is officially underway for the new casino. I really miss seeing the beautiful flowers as you drive into the resort.  The flowers are gone, and replaced with a black fence erected to hide the construction work for the new casino.   The new 50,000 square foot casino is anticipated to open in April of 2010. The casino, like The Bunker, will be underground.         The Greenbrier's main entrance is now closed due to the construction work for the casino.     The North entrance of the Greenbrier will be the temporary main entrance until April of 2010.   The temporary entrance is just as beautiful with an abundance of beautiful flowers.   In April of 2010, The Greenbrier will be unveiling a 38 table, 320 slot machine casino...

My brother, niece, husband and I visited The Greenbrier Resort over the weekend.  It was just for a day to show my niece, Hannah, this fantastic resort only ten miles from our home in Lewisburg, WV.           My niece was very impressed with The Greenbrier as we walked through the halls.  She was amazed at the beautiful, fresh bouquet of flowers on  the tables throughout the Resort.                        Hallway                                                           Formal Dining Room   We loved the shops especially the women's clothing and jewelry shops.  Our favorite stop was the Greenbrier Gourmet Shop where you will find everything for the kitchen, including food.  Even my husband and brother liked this store.....for one reason....the food.  While they enjoyed a cup of Starbucks...

Plans for building The Bunker at the Greenbrier Resort started in 1956 and was completed in 1962.  The Bunker was to be the U.S. Government Relocation facility under the West Virginia Wing of The Greenbrier. In the event of a national emergency, the 112,544 sq. ft. facility would have been activated and used by the US Congress and support staff.                The award-winning Greenbrier Resort in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, was an ideal location for the facility. Located 250 miles from Washington DC, the resort is easily accessible by air, auto or train.  During the 30 years that the bunker was a secret, groups were meeting there and enjoying theme parties and dinners, without realizing they were in a top-secret government facility. They never realized that the Exhibit H...

If you are plannning a trip to White Sulphur Springs or Lewisburg, West Virginia, you may want to stay at the James Wylie House Bed and Breakfast and log cabin guest house.     Monica Foos is the owner of this B&B located in Greenbrier County.  Just down the road, about a mile, is the beautiful Greenbrier Resort. My husband and I stayed at this B&B a few times in 2005 while our home was being built in Lewisburg. Staying at the James Wylie House, was a great way to get to know the community.  And, yes so much more personal than any hotel.....our visits at the B&B were like visiting a family member.....We always felt so welcomed. We always looked forward to staying at the James Wylie House because of Monica.  She would always give us the news in both Lewisburg and White Sulphur Springs.  ...
