This is a great story, take a moment to read it, it will make your day!   The ending will surprise you Take my Son A wealthy man and his son loved to collect rare works of art. They had everything in their collection, from Picasso to Raphael. They would often sit together and admire the great works of art. When the Vietnam conflict broke out, the son went to war. He was very courageous and died in battle while rescuing another soldier. The father was notified and grieved deeply for his only son. About a month later, just before Christmas, there was a knock at the door. A young man stood at the door with a large package in his hands. He said, 'Sir, you don't know me, but I am the soldier for whom your son gave his life. He saved many lives that day, and he was carrying me to safety when ...

Coldwell Banker Stuart and Watts Real Estate has been a leading real estate agency in the Greenbrier Valley for over 100 years.  Stuart and Watts Real Estate has served this area with integrity and hard work since 1906 when it was begun by Lewis L. Stuart, Sr. and Mr. Watts, partners.  In 1993 the agency became a part of the Coldwell Banker franchise. Coldwell Banker also marked an important milestone in 2006, the 100th anniversary of the brand's founding. The oldest national real estate organization in the country was founded among the ruins of the great San Francisco earthquake of 1906.  Colbert Coldwell, who played a key role in rebuilding the city after the devastating quake and subsequent fires, witnessed his real estate contemporaries take advantage of the tragedy by acquiring p...

FIRST-TIME PURCHASERS GET A TAX CREDIT WINDFALL IF THEY BUY BEFORE DECEMBER. By Les Christie, CNNMoney.com staff writer Feb 17th, 2009 NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) There's a nice windfall for some homebuyers in the economic stimulus bill signed into law this week by President Obama. First-time buyers can claim a credit worth $8,000 - or 10% of the home's value, whichever is less - on their 2008 or 2009 taxes. A big plus is that the credit is refundable, meaning tax filers see a refund of the full $8,000 even if their total tax bill - the amount of witholding they paid during the year plus anything extra they had to pony up when they filed their returns - was less than that amount. But there has been a lot of confusion over this provision. Adam Billings of Knoxville, Tenn. wrote to CNNMoney.c...

The Greenbrier Humane Society held its 11th annual Fur Ball on Saturday, January 31, at the Brier Inn. The theme was the Wizard of Paws.          There was plenty of food, cash bar, door prizes, and a silent auction.  Of course, what kind of event would it be without music?  Two bands, the Old School Abby and the Zemph quartet provided a festive atmosphere for dancing.   My husband, brother, and I attended to support this cause, and had a great time.       The GHS has sole management of the Greenbrier County Animal Shelter.   I stopped by the Shelter today to not only talk with Judy Walz-Harris, vice president of the Board of Directors and legal counsel, but also to see some of the animals.  Judy stated that "we are expecting to have made over 10 thousand dollars from a combination of...

While reading Barb Szabo's post on Attention Sellers: Ten Affordable Tips for Making Your Home "Market Ready,  I remembered a vacant home that I listed which was in dire need of some house cleaning. The house I was listing, had been vacant for a few months.  So, I asked the seller to hire someone to clean the house, since  she was not able to clean it herself.  About a week later, someone called and wanted to see the house.  It was indeed clean, so I thought.  As we walked through the kitchen, I looked up at the ceiling fan, amazed at the DIRT, GREASE, and COBWEBS hanging from this fan.  It was just so disgusting.  When I got back to the office, I, of course, called the seller and informed her about the filthy fan. She said she would take care of it.  Well, when I returned, let's just...

Here in Lewisburg WV, we haven't had too much snow, as some other areas have.  Today, it had started to snow early in the afternoon. I was sitting at my desk reading some blog posts, when my dog, Zeke, brings his toy and wants to play.   I looked out my office window  and  said "Okay, lets go play".....and out the door we went.  Oh, I always love it when it starts to snow.  Everything is covered with a white blanket.  It is so beautiful and serene.  I watched Zeke play in the snow and looked around at how quite and peaceful it is.  Here are a few photos, can you feel the peacefulness? The weather forecast for tonight is more snow ...6 to 12 inches.  YEA!

It's winter in West Virginia         And the gentle breezes blow        Seventy miles an hour        At twenty-five below.              Oh, how I love West Virginia       When the snow's up to your butt       You take a breath of winter       And your nose gets frozen shut.             Yes, the weather here is wonderful      So I guess I'll hang around      I could never leave West Virginia      'Cause I'm frozen to the ground Even with the cold and snow, Coldwell Banker Stuart and Watts, Lewisburg, WV, had a very good December.  And, so far, January is not so bad for buying and selling real estate.   Our good friends, Ronda and Sam Bunch, were visiting us this weekend from Gainesville, VA.  They were celebrating their 8th wedding anniversary with us. After attending church services at the Lewisburg United Methodist Church, we decided to have lunch at the General Lewis Inn, an antique filled Inn and Restaurant in Historic Lewisburg, West Virginia.  It was snowing, and since the Inn is located across the street from the church, we walked over laughing and feeling giddy in the snow.   Our friends loved the historic country Inn and restaurant.  We took a short tour of the Inn. The rooms, if unoccupied, are left open, as an invitation to browse through the rooms.   All the guest rooms are furnished with antiques.   Spool and canopy beds, chests of drawers, quilts, old cupboards filled ...

After leaving my real estate office today, I stopped by the First National Bank to talk with Loan Officer, Diane Beale.  I was reminiscing about the first day I met Dianne, and decided to write a blog about our first meeting, and my terrible, stressful, settlement day.  When applying for a mortgage, one of the first things you are asked is "What type of loan do you want"?   Well, here is what happened to me.  We had finished building our home in Lewisburg, West Virginia.  Now the construction loan had to be turned into a regular mortgage.  I started looking around and found a mortgage lender and liked the rates, so we started the paper work.  The closing was to be on a Friday morning. I walked into the attorney's office and was immediately informed that there was a problem.  The paperwo...

Happy New Year!  In Lewisburg, people of all ages kicked off 2009 with a parade that's been around for 150 years. The Shanghai Parade began at noon on New Year's Day, in historic Lewisburg on Washington Street. There were plenty of floats and people dressed up in wacky costumes.  The local fire department, rescue squad, along with the Newly elected Sheriff, Jim Childers. The streets were lined with people and enjoyed the parade and visiting with friends to start the New Year.  Lewisburg is a great place to visit anytime with the shops, resturants, the tourist love to walk the streets and just window shop.  Plan your visit to Lewisburg, West Virginia soon.

What a way to celebrate New Year's Eve.   We attended two great events on this day.  First, our nephew, got married in Lewisburg, WV.  It was a small wedding held at the Lewisburg United Methodist Church.   The bride had changed clothes after the photo shots of the wedding party, but wore the bridal veil all evening.               Secondly, we attended the reception dinner held at the Greenbrier Resort,  The Greenbrier, is an award winning, five-diamond luxury resort and hotel in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. This was really a special New Year's Eve, and a great way to ring in the New Year!  Celebrating a wedding, and dinner and dancing at this great resort.            I hope you all had a Happy New Year's Eve night, and spent it either in the quietness of your cozy home with fa...

This is another post on the activities held at the Greenbrier Valley Theatre (GVT) in Lewisburg, West Virginia.  But first, I would like to give you a brief history of this theatre. Greenbrier Valley Theatre started its 1966 productions in a tent alongside the Greenbrier River. After performing in various borrowed spaces, a temporary structure was erected in 1976 near the Greenbrier Valley Airport . The facility, was known to the community as The Barn, was funded by the Benedum Foundation and built by dedicated volunteers.  In 1994, a building was purchased in downtown Lewisburg. Once renovations were completed, in 2000 GVT opened the doors to a state-of-the-art facility.  Greenbrier Valley Theatre has enjoyed the support of a loyal community whose nurturing has developed a vigorous, pr...

Coldwell Banker Stuart and Watts in Lewisburg, West Virginia, does.  Her name is Bonnie Roberts.  She is very dedicated to her job, and not only works hard, but tries to please everyone in the office.  Bonnie is an extremely good person, with an extraordinary spirit.  Her positive attitude and wonderful outlook in life prevails, despite the difficult life she's had.  Without a doubt, she is someone who counts her blessings and shares them too.    While working 8 hours a day at Coldwell Banker Stuart and Watts, and cleaning the office on weekends, Bonnie is also raising her nephew, Davy.  Bonnie recently just received her B.A. in Education.  She hopes to get a teaching job next year, if not sooner.  We would hate to see her leave, but know her dream is to teach children.  She will be an ...
