My Mom forwarded this to me, and I thought I would share :-)   THE DAFFODIL PRINCIPLE Several times my daughter had telephoned to say, "Mother, you must come to see the daffodils before they are over." I wanted to go, but it was a two-hour drive from Laguna to Lake Arrowhead "I will come next Tuesday", I promised a little reluctantly on her third call.   Next Tuesday dawned cold and rainy. Still, I had promised, and reluctantly I drove there. When I finally walked into Carolyn's house I was welcomed by the joyful sounds of happy children. I delightedly hugged and greeted my grandchildren.   "Forget the daffodils, Carolyn! The road is invisible in these clouds and fog, and there is nothing in the world except you and these children that I want to see badly enough to drive another inch!...

HAWS Shelter seeks help in cat hoarding cases By JCPG Staff March 20, 2013 | (0) Comments Fifty cats from one owner, most of them sick and suffering were recently brought to HAWS, the Humane Animal Welfare Society of Waukesha County. The shelter is asking for the community’s help, and for residents to take action to prevent further occurrences of animal hoarding. When is “many” considered too many? Animal hoarding, as defined in this circumstance, is when an owner/caretaker has more pets than they are able to care for properly. HAWS’ Spay-Neuter Initiative Program (SNIP) and Project Guardian both offer free or low-cost surgeries to community residents, effectively decreasing cat over-population. HAWS stresses the need for community involvement to help eliminate future hoarding cases. “P...

Fainting can be a very scary thing.  What does it mean? Why does it happen?   Well, a lack of blood flow (and oxygen) to the brain causes  you to briefly lose consciousness.   Your heart pumps blood throughout your body, so fainting may mean that your heart isn't working properly.   If you faint suddenly for no apparent reason, go to the emergency room immediately.  If you were in a stressful situation at the time, check in with your physician.  Even though factors like being hot or nervous can trigger fainting, your doctor should still make sure you don't have an underlying condition.  She can analyze your risk factors and may recommend an EKG.  Another fainting fact....after age 45, it's more likely that a fainting episode is due to a potential heart issue.

A friend forwarded me a short article about the New Superfoods. Here are some of the latest good for you ingredients that are every bit as potent and good as their trendy predecessors:   You know flaxseeds, but now Try Chia seeds. Skip the chia pet and eat the seeds. Put them on your yogurt or in cereal. They are higher in cholesterol lowering Omega 3 fatty acids and don't need to be ground up to unlock their health benefits.   You know Kale, but now meet Seaweed. It's been floating in your miso soup for ages, but now it's bobbing up in the snack aisle in crispy, seasoned sheets---the trendier version of kale chips. Like kale, seaweed is a good source of vitamins A and C , calcium and iron. But, it is also rich in iodine, a thyroid helper. Crumble it up and put in in soup, salads or ric...
