            Last night we got to see democracy at work....we got to see that every voice matters....that if you want a voice in city government....step up to the microphone...it matters.    A  couple members of the city council....the department of public works.....spent tens of thousands of the tax payers hard earned money hiring outside engineering firms to conceive a variety of designs...the sidewalks went across the back of the lots of a number of homes...ours included....we don't want the additional six foot intrusion....and none of the neighbors did either. The council members who wanted the sidewalks romanticized them calling them sidepaths...bike paths....side ways...everything but what they are...sidewalks that need to be maintained, repaired, replaced, swept and shoveled...if ... 01/14/2009

                                                       14460 West College Avenue, New Berlin, WI  53151  414-427-3838    A drive down College Avenue in New Berlin,WI is just a little bit country, just a little bit past (west) of Sunny Slope....we call the corner of Sunny Slope and College "Cow Corner" cuz there are some black angus there....always wondered if they too ended up at Matty's....in a little different form than the tail swatting variety you can see as you head west toward Matty's.      At first glance,...and until you know better...you could mistake Matty's for just another pretty shot and a beer bar that was just a little bit country....and you would be wrong...very wrong.        Maybe you moved to or stayed in New Berlin because you believed it to be the community the  city slogan says it is....."A Little Bit Country."  The little bit will become bitsier unless you Just Say No to Sidewalks EVERYWHERE in New Berlin !  The few sidewalks that exist are not regularly cleaned of snow, ice and debris. The city council vetoed the Parks Dept.'s (responsible for snow removal) request for additional equipment for the few sidewalks that exist currently.   Some of the council members have tried to romanticize the addition of sidewalks...giving them more "nature friendly" names...they call them side paths, bike trails...but they are SIDEWALKS.  Recently, the city, has spent thousands of dollars with consultants as to the construction of "Sidepaths" along 124th Street... 02/12/2008
