A bridge over un-troubled waters. This is a photo of Twining park on Monroe's north side. One of the many parks our community has to offer. Is it time to move to the land of Cows and plows? Or should I say parks and bridges?   From Scott Larson of Towne Square Realty in Monroe, Wisconsin “Your Realtor of the Region” E- Mail scott@greencountyhomeguide.com On the web at www.greencountyhomeguide.com I think you will be surprised how affordable the Dairyland is, so come to my land of cows and plows and visit for a day, but stay for a lifetime 608-2124-9844 Direct

Ready, Set , Sell Every seller wants their home to sell quickly and bring top dollar. While there are some factors you can't control, like neighborhood popularity and market fluctuations, you can help your house put on its best face for showings and open houses. Before any physical preparations, you first need to prepare yourself emotionally. Begin to dissociate yourself, and decide to let go of your attachments to the home. From now on, this is a house you really want to sell, not your own beloved home.   From Scott Larson of Towne Square Realty in Monroe, Wisconsin “Your Realtor of the Region” E- Mail scott@greencountyhomeguide.com On the web at www.greencountyhomeguide.com I think you will be surprised how affordable the Dairyland is, so come to my land of cows and plows and visit ...

Last year, the Fowler Memorial Free Dental Clinic opened in the Human Services building of the Pleasant View Complex here in Monroe.  This clinic provides free dental care to lower income children:  xrays, cleanings, fillings, flouride treatment, and sealants.  This clinic serves a strong need in the area.  While finding a doctor who accepts patients on medicaid or Badgercare is realatively easy, finding a dentist who will accept new patients with this insurance is much more difficult.  Fowler Memorial serves a population that is otherwise underserved. Fowler Memorial Free Dental Clinic is currently trying to win a grant through Pepsi's Refresh Project.  Could you tak a minute to vote for them? The $50,000 grant would help Fowler to purchase a bitewing x-ray machine as well as to provid...

An interesting multi-cultural, mixed media exhibit is opening at the Monroe Arts Center Frehner Gallery this Thursday. "Message from Swaziland" was inspired by local artist Jennifer Rikkers' walk through parts of Africa when she participated in the 2008 Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation AIDS Walk Africa. Rikkers combined her photography with acrylic painting to create this exhibit highlighting the people of Swaziland who touched her so deeply during her walk through the country. Rikkers wanted to share the message of Swaziland's people, a people in a country that has been deeply affected by the HIV/AIDS crisis. 33% of the population of that country has the virus, and AIDS work there is critically important to that nation. Rikkers will be donating 33% of the proceeds from the sa...

Sales Tip Painting the Interior of your Home A Professional painters will probably charge you anywhere from $200 to $500 to paint each room depending on the area you live in, but with a little patience, you can paint the rooms yourself.  Choose a soft color in a light brown tone (never white), and paint every room the same color. The painting will go faster if you paint the ceilings the same color, but ceilings really pop if they are a lighter color than the color of the walls. Lighter colors also make the ceilings appear higher. For a 10 x 10 room, you will need 2 one-gallon cans of eggshell paint. Their are several good brands of paint, one-gallon can of paint should cost no more than $25. Save a bundle and help your home sell.       From Scott Larson of Towne Square Realty in Monro...

A cheap and tasty way to have people love your home during showings. Not a new idea but one overlooked. Keep a roll of store-bought refrigerated chocolate-chip cookie dough and bake five or six slices while you're double-checking the house. Put the baking sheet in the dishwasher and take the cookies with you. They get the aroma, and you get the cookies!

Oh yes, another local food post. You know me - love to buy local and buy direct! Good food is one of the joys of life. It has been years since a CSA (community supported agriculture) has had a drop off point in or around Monroe. For those of you unfamiliar with what a CSA is, you purchase a share of the harvest from a local produce grower. These farmers grow vegetables on their area farm, and every week during the growing season, you receive a box of freshly picked, perfectly in season produce as your share of the harvest. These boxes are usually brought to a few central drop off points a specific times, and you must go there to pick up your produce. Locals who wanted to be members of a CSA have often had to go to Verona, Janesville, Beloit or elsewhere to pick up their food. Wiser Farm...

I honestly wish I could tell the story behind this one.  My husband come home with this photograph one day, and I don't know where he was driving when he found this idyllic scene.  When I was going through the hard drive today, this is the one that caught my attention, probably because of how crazy this month has been.  A little tranquility could be a good thing, but we all know that in the business, it is feast or famine.

Every year, my husband, Luis, is a happy volunteer for the Muscular Dystrophy Association's "Lockup" fundraiser. This promotion puts Luis "in jail" for a day until he raises enough money to post bail. His goal this year, his bail, is to raise enough to send two children to summer camp this year. I know that some people have issues with the idea of turning going to jail into a fun thing for this promotion. Regardless of personal feelings on this, it is helping a very good cause. Can you help? Visit his MDA page to make a secure pledge online or give us a call at 608-214-5797 and we can arrange to pick up your pledge. Thank you so much!
