Village of Hartland — Forty years ago, 2,763 people lived in Hartland. In 1972, construction began on houses along Hartwood Lane in the new Hartridge subdivision, which, when complete, would eventually become the largest subdivision in the village. By 1980, the village's population had shot up to 5,589, and now stands at 8,605. While Hartridge was not the sole reason behind the village's population boom during that period, it's safe to say that the majority of people settling in Hartland in the 1970s were new residents of the subdivision. The construction of Hartridge marked a turning point for the village, turning it into something that, while still not quite a metropolis, was certainly markedly different from the quaint little town it used to be.
