WHY AREN'T THERE ENOUGH HOMES FOR SALE ?Why is Spokane WA Listing Inventory ( # of homes for sale ) down a whopping 20% spring 2016 when compared to last year?OUCH says the Buyer. It is a bit of a mystery as to why less people are listing their Spokane WA area properties for sale this year. I would love (love) any insights you might have as to what you think the reasons are. Here is the word on the street, and my insight.1) People don't want to sell until they have an idea where they are going, which creates a "bottle-neck" market. If more folks were willing to take a risk, it might open up the clogged market. And, sellers who do have their homes up for sale, won't likely even look at an offer " contingent " on a buyer selling their house. So, it becomes a catch 22. 2) The Storm of Nov. ...

Hike Dishman Hills near the Spokane ValleyLast Sunday, Tana and I, hiked the Dishman Hills Natural Area and thoroughly enjoyed the sunshine, the smell of warm pine needles and a bounty of spring flowers blooming everywhere.  The gravel and bare dirt trails wound around interesting rock bluffs and vantage points.  We enjoyed a perfect view of snow capped Mt. Spokane and the urban sprawl of the neighboring City of Spokane Valley. With several trails to choose from, hiking different trails makes each visit unique.  This was our first visit and of course we wondered why we hadn't done it sooner. It reminded us a bit of another favorite hike:  Tubbs Hill in Idaho but without the glittering water of Lake Coeur d'Alene in the distance.  Dishman Hills is a terrific location to get in a quick hi...

Bloomsday 2016 I am happy to report that I have registered for my 40th* Bloomsday. I am a perennial!  And perennials bloom every year.  You can register too at www.bloomsdayrun.org I'm happy on several levels Bloomsday means spring It is a fine way to spend the first Sunday of May  with 40+ thousand of my closest friends And a new T-shirt to boot!     *In 2015 there  were 92 people who had run all 39 Bloomsdays.  These hale and hearty participants that have been dubbed "Perennials" have to be at least 39 years old, right?  None of the original 'bloomies' are breaking any speed records but that's OK because WE make up for it with our enthusiasm.  Age does not dictate speed and there are one or two perennials who still finish in under one hour.    For some participants, it is all about th...

I recently visited Lolo Boutique in Spokane WA located at 319 W. 2nd ave. It had honestly been a couple of years since I was there, and I had to ask myself why! What a delightful place, with such great finds. The gals were engaging and seemed so very happy to be there. This is important to me as a former retail worker, I tend to get turned off at crabby sales people. I really loved the selections in clothing , jewelry- and accessories. Oh, and the new section for home accents is fantastic. Their website is really great, excellent photo's to get the ambiance of the boutique. I am proud to give a shout out to Lolo Boutique and hope you stop in and pay them a visit soon!Their website is : http://www.loloboutique.net/Thank you Lolo Boutique for helping Spokane have charachter and interestin...

Reverse Mortgages:  Cost vs Benefit? What are the costs?  What are the benefits? Only the homeowner can make the final decision, but an experienced professional can certainly explain the costs vs the benefits of a Reverse Mortgage to anyone with an open mind.  A second line of  information comes from the counselor at the mandatory counseling session. Full disclosure at every turn.  Over the years, I have visited with eligible seniors who appear in "full body language" mode with arms crossed and legs firmly planted on the floor who are certain that Reverse Mortgages are terrible. And horrible.  They are certain that no good can come from this type of refinance.  They cost too much.  There are few benefits.   I see some people who think that because they don't see the benefit then no one ...

I spent most of the week in Spokane, Washington. We did a #mobilecomcamp clock hour class at the River Park Square downtown on Thursday, February 18th.I have a special place in my heart for this old town in Eastern Washington. My Mom grew up here, the Larson side of our family. My Grandpa Harvey and Grandma Edna arrived here over 100 years ago         (1901 and 1898 respectively) and I have several fond memories of taking the train from Seattle to visit them as a kid. I also recall many times growing up that Mom would always refer affectionately to her hometown as Spokaloo.Spokane is so blessed, in my opinion, to have so many wonderfully restored and repurposed lovely old buildings from the late 1800’s and early 1900’s... One of my favorites is the historic Davenport Hotel built in 1914...

Hello friends ! I decided to start highlighting locally owned Spokane area businesses that are awesome, unique, offer great service, fun products, yummy foods, atmosphere, ambiance, and the like.It brought me back to a day last year when I had the immense privilege of being present when my daughter in law (to be)  tried on wedding dresses ! I was so ( so ) happy to have been included along with her mother and some of the bridesmaids, it was wonderful !HOWEVER, I had no idea what I was in for. Not only was the service at Marcella's Bridal above and beyond, Marcella herself was amazing! She is a hoot! Talk about an incredible personality, she was hospitable ( offered us treats!) and her creative passion was nothing short of astounding. I ran into her months later, and ... she remembered M...

As a lifelong resident of Spokane WA, I am passionate about "Locally owned" Spokane area businesses. It doesn't much matter what kind of place it might be, I am always on the look out for the new, the obscure, maybe even the most popular Spokane originals. I asked the other day on facebook for my friends to give a " shout out " to their favorite locally owned spots. I loved the enthusiasm and variety of types of places mentioned! From eateries to house painters, coffee shops to hair stylists. As much as I appreciate a good " franchise " and do frequent them, there is something so comforting and enjoyable about a home grown business. No matter if it is sophisticated and pricey, or organic and budget friendly. The idea that it is a one of a kind place has tremendous appeal to me. I decide...

Eastern Washington and North Idaho viewers enjoy Classic TV shows on MeTV! Are you missing the old TV shows like I Love Lucy and Andy Griffith? MeTV airs old shows that scoop you up and take you down memory lane with hours and hours of family entertainment.   While baby boomers and retirees make up a large portion of the viewing audience, college students and younger kids also enjoy the "old-timey" shows.  What a great way to take a break from regular TV and enjoy the shows reflecting America's past (according to Hollywood.)  Airing all hours of the day and night, MeTV really is "memorable entertainment".  Here's just a sample of what is available to choose from..... Westerns:   Rifleman, Bonanza, Wagon Train, Big Valley, Gunsmoke and Rawhide Superheroes of yesteryear:  Lost in Space, W...

Spokane's South Hill changes again The cleared property at 55th and Regal is primed for change and KXLY  recently announced a "new development".   For decades Regal Lumber sat on the upper regions of Spokane's South Hill quietly serving families, contractors and handymen. Since the store front, various sheds, warehouse,  piles of lumber  and parking lot are now history, the corner has been not much more than an eyesore.  Now the entire length of Regal from 29th to 63rd is not so quiet with the addition of Target and many other business.    Fortunately, Regal street south of 29th Avenue has seen numerous changes to infrastructure with stop lights and turn lanes added for safety and traffic flow.   Spokane is home to many excellent construction companies and many decisions are yet to be m...

Not all Salted Carmel Ice Cream is created equal. Here's the Scoop, The Spokane Scoop. Literally nestled on Spokane WA glorious Tree lined South Hill - on the corner of 25th and Monroe, just West of Wilson Elementary, lies a modest shop called "THE SCOOP " which, at first glance is not, well- too glamerous looking. But should you make your way inside, your have indeed found what may well be the best Salted Carmel Ice cream this side of the Mississippi! Holy Freakin' calories Batman! This may be worth a visit to Spokane in and of itself. Just a couple of blocks West of the Scoop is the fantastic High Drive Trail's, a nostalgic place to watch the sunset. The vintage homes in this area make a drive about the sidewalked neighborhood as enjoyable as a Sunday nap. Of all the goodies I have day ...

Chasing the Market! Ok, you priced your home just a little high earlier in the season. After all, you didn’t want to leave any money on the table. And maybe you waited a little too long for that first price reduction. Well, your home did have a lot of activity those first few weeks. Now, here it is September and your home is still on the market. Still no offers. Or even worse, an offer early on that you realize now, you should have taken. Let’s try to figure out how you got here. When you look at the seasonal market trends, it is plain to see the highest volume in closed sales as well as the highest sale prices are in June and July. These are closed sales. It takes around 45 days for a house sale to close. These numbers represent sales contracts that were written in April, May and June....

Is your home on the market, and not selling? Does your Listing agent use a PROFESSIONAL Photographer? When YOU look at your listing online, does it make you A.) Want to buy your own house? or B.) Get the box of Kleenex out and sniff like you are watching a chick flick while scrolling through photo's of the home you will always love and miss, as if it is the one who got away? It should look that good!I am appalled ( dictionary meaning;  filled with horror, consternation, fear, dismay ) when I see the crappy ( dictionary meaning ; crappy ) photo's of PEOPLE'S LARGEST INVESTMENTS BEING PEDDLED BY AMATEURS referring to themselves as professional Real Estate Agents! Our job as a listing agent is to $PEND $OME $HINEY to make our listings look irresistible! I do not apologize for saying that I...

The Market in Spokane has been healthy and steady. Not only is the weather HOT, The Real Estate Market is heating up as wellHere are the latest stats ( July 2015 )TAKE A LOOK AT THE FACT THAT INVENTORY IS DOWN 14.5% THIS JULY COMPARED TO LAST JULY. That is very significant, and has made our market lean toward a definite " Sellers Market " due to less homes needed than what we need. It is most definitely a good time to consider selling your Spokane home. I have enjoyed working with some fabulous folks thus far in 2015. I hope you are enjoying the Summer and having some good old fashioned FUN !~ BethAnn in Spokane

Hooray for Spokane's Tree Lined Neighborhoods!   "Leafy, tree-lined streets aren't just good for property values; they may also be good for your health..." according to a news article written by Deborah Netburn, Los Angeles Times - Science Now and re-printed in The Spokesman-Review. Citing a study in the Scientific Reports she explains the various ways that tree-lined neighborhoods contribute to health and well-being.  Growing up in the Pacific Northwest, I love trees and I enjoy reading articles such as these. Plus, I like good news from reputable sources.   From a purely business standpoint, mature trees increasing a home's value is great news to homeowners everywhere. How much more welcoming it is to shop for a home on a shady, tree-lined street than a sunny house on a bare lot.  Tre...
