On Sunday morning I was having a serious craving for pan dulce, or Mexican sweet bread.  So I went to a place in White Center that I hadn't been to in a while, Castillos Bakery on 16th Ave S.W. just past the Albertson's. My favorite is the empanada, a sweet bread filled with either pineapple, apple or custard cream.  They offer a huge assortment of all different types and colors of sweet bread, and at only 3 for $1.00 it's an amazing deal.  As I was choosing my sweet bread, I noticed that the store was getting more and more crowded.  I turned around and noticed stacks of huge rings of sweet bread; they reminded me of a Danish Kringle, which is shaped like the crown of Denmark.  Inside the package were two tablets of Mexican table chocolate, and two little plastic dolls, a baby and a kin...

My oldest grandson (he will be 2 yrs. old in Feb.) got his first "official" haircut recently.  His mom and dad took him to Lil Klippers in Wallingford (a community in North Seattle).   It is a very popular place and you can see that they are quite good at distracting little kids.   The pictures are in sequence of the event and then the final product. My daughter said it took about 10 minutes of actual cutting and was quite impressed with them. Please visit my site for information and support.  Seattle, Bellevue, Queen Anne, Wallingford, Green Lake, Fremont and Redmond, Washington Real Estate Property Listings.

Seattle Real Estate:  Preforeclosures, Short Sales, Foreclosures (REO Bank Owned) - They are out there - Adjusting loans have caused a surge in the volume of this type of housing investment. What does this mean to Seattle's real estate market for sellers?  How do these distressed Seattle properties affect your ability to sell your house if you are a Seattle seller?I found over 100 Seattle area short sale listings in the NWMLS search I ran today.  I found even more Seattle REO properties available for sale.  The sheer volume is definitely affecting the market time for Seattle real estate that has nothing to do with short sales, preforeclosures, or foreclosure.  A traditional seller might get discouraged, but there are ways to set yourself apart from these troubled properties.  Your lack ...

Yesterday, we took a trip to Seattle's Earthwise Salvage.  Builders who remove old historic stained glass windows, heater grates, doors, doorknobs, and pretty much anything for historic homes in Seattle, bring their salvage here and get credits toward inventory. A great place to shop if you have an historic home in Seattle and want to upgrade the look of the heater grates, without changing the period.  That huge one is $150. Kim just loved this big old door.  "Thickest residential door he's ever seen."  Kim and I went with one of our clients, and it's amazing how we were each drawn to different parts of the store. A great place if you have one broken piece and are looking for just the right match.  You can get these new, but you don't want to do that if the whole house has old ones.  a...

I have an experience to share that all the Redfin converts, believers, naysayers, and skeptics should find interesting.  Before the holidays I was browsing Redfin's website to see what all the fuss was about.  Considering that my own clients were using the Redfin website rather than my company Windermere website.  As I looked around I have to admit I like the simple and straightforward design and wealth of info.  What stood out the most to me was the local "Getting to know Redfin" page.  They were offering a face-to-face meet and greet at Zeitgeist Coffee shop in Pioneer Square.  This meet and greet is clearly scheduled on their website for the Seattle area every 2nd Wednesday of the month. I decided it would be interesting to take my brother and go see what type of information and mark...

Seattle and its suburbs have a healthy housing market and although obviously slower,  a decent outlook for 2008  This is especially true when Seattle real estate is compared to many other parts of the country.  So why all the real estate doom and gloom and talk of Seattle bubbles?  It is true, we are headed for some changes.  Real estate is very local and I won't say that we won't lose value because I can laready see some of that happening in the suburbs, but that does not spell ultimate disaster - more of a correction?   The media has taken a very generalized view of the country and applied it erroneously to Seattle's real estate market as a whole in my opinion.  The only positive direction from this campaign of fear is increased viewership as home owners and home buyers tune in to see...

Seattle and Seattle Suburb real estate:  After much planning, Cooper Jacobs Real Estate Services is finally live!  If you want to read about my Seattle and Seattle Suburb Real Estate Company, then check out cooperjacobs.com!Making the decision to open my own brokerage was an easy decision for me - I  absolutely loved my broker at Windermere and will miss him dearly, but I wanted to be able to offer my clients more and have the additional freedom to offer a more specialized higher level of service.  I have gotten a lot of support and my clients are thrilled!  I have run into a couple questions that have baffled me and wanted to share.  I guess I should title this something like "Overcoming objections of........"   - something - I am sure Griffin Real Estate Jessica would have a clever ph...

Recently an Associated Press newswire story recounted the success in Switzerland of a trial program supplying heroin to addicts. Very few U.S. newspapers, and none of consequence, carried the story. Instead, the news that made the headlines was a typically exaggerated interpretation of the latest NIDA sponsored research: many media reports suggested the results had proved once and for all that marijuana was ‘addictive' and a certain gateway to the ‘harder stuff'. Yet close examination of the research showed no such thing. The results of the very successful Swiss experiment were thus buried in a blizzard of prohibitionist propaganda, and the media made not a peep of protest. As a result of the Swiss success, Holland, Australia, and other nations are seriously considering pilot programs a...

Drug prohibition is today too important a tool for U.S. political institutions, and too critical an issue for certain economic interests, to expect that significant drug-law reform will be initiated in the United States. One certain indicator that reform in the U.S. is still remote is that it is rarely (if ever) suggested in political discourse, and only occasionally in the national media that current drug policy is a prohibition analogous in many important respects to America's infamous ‘noble experiment' of National Alcohol Prohibition.                                                    The fact that the U.S. has succeeded in foisting drug prohibition upon the entire world, whereas alcohol prohibition was rejected by most nations as absurd, has far more to do with traditions of intoxi...

Homelessness is becoming a growing problem in most urban cities across America. About one-third of the adult homeless population is veterans, American heroes who have served our country. On any given day, as many as 200,000 U.S. veterans, male and female, are living on our city streets or in emergency homeless shelters. Perhaps twice as many experience brief periods of homelessness at some point during the course of a year. Many veterans are considered nearly homeless or at risk of becoming homeless because of poverty and lack of social or financial supports. Still more are living in dismal conditions in cheap hotels or places not intended for housing.Unfortunately, many veterans are unaware that help is available                                                             The Homeless G...

Through their Qualified Allocation Plans (QAPs) for Low Income Housing Tax Credits, many states are using a variety of different incentives to support the inclusion of resident services in the development of affordable housing.                                                                This report outlines and summarizes the use of three types of incentives: threshold requirements, credit set-asides and scoring incentives as described in the 2005 plans for each state. It includes excerpts from the states' QAPs that show eligibility and definitions, state incentives and services provision policies. It also offers links to the website of each state's housing credit allocating agency and a matrix that shows which states are offering which types of incentives. RD House Real Estate & Pro...

alcohol is ``deeply ingrained in our culture'' and ``alcohol use is widely glamorized in movies, television and music.'' And, the alcohol industry spends as much as $3 billion a year putting positive alcohol messages in front of kids' faces. The partnership's position mirrors that of beer companies who hypocritically claim their ads have no effect on underage drinking. Its position conveniently ignores how effectively tobacco counter-ads have worked using hard-hitting messages that expose the tobacco industry and debunk its advertising images. It's predictable that the National Beer Wholesalers Association would oppose public health efforts to counteract youth- oriented beer ads that glorify alcohol. Wine ads on the other hand are, for the most part, responsible and not inviting to chil...

For those of you out there who are currently trying to sell your home, you may have noticed that it's taking a bit more time for homes to sell as compared to last year. December statistics for communities within the zip code of 98146 including Arbor Heights, Roxbury Heights, Shorewood & North Shorewood, Hazel Valley, North Burien, White Center and Top Hat are as follows: There are currently 144 active single family homes(132) and condos (12) in 98146. Since December 1st there are 8 homes and one condo showing 'Pending' status, which means that these contracts are currently in escrow. Also, since December 1st there have been 16 homes sold and 2 condos sold within this same zip code. Therefore, by looking at December numbers we can see that there is about 8 months worth of inventory here....

***  It's 2008!   *** Seattle celebrated the New Year with Fireworks from the Space Needle , an annual event that this year enjoyed a beautiful, unusually clear night with no rain!  While the weather cooperated, the Firework's computer program did not.  This year's theme was a tribute to Hollywood, and the film scores, broadcast on Star 101.5 FM went on with the show, but the Fireworks computer program did "break-a-leg" and while the music played on, crowd watched a silent and "dark" Space Needle.  The technicians had to lend a hand and re-boot twice, when that did not work, they manually triggered the Fireworks and then the Space Needle  >>> burst <<< with brilliant displays of rockets, light, and sparkles!          Okay, so the carefully choreographed music and Fireworks were no longe...

Moving into a town home in Seattle can be challenging. Tight corners and stairwells coupled with a three or four story layout. As the density of our city increases, the number of town homes will inevitably increase, for several reasons to be discussed later. My wife and I live in a 1200sqft town home in the Alaska Junction neighborhood in West Seattle. It is by far one of the coolest areas in Seattle. We walk to everything. Some of the cities best restaurants and cafe's are within just a couple of blocks. However getting furniture into our home was a challenge and is for most town home owners. We bought a 9ft long sofa, it is soft and fuffy, but it wont fit through our stair well. For about a year we converted our first floor bedroom into a "TV" room and avoided moving it into our "livi...

Report by Ricky D finding on Market in MiamiIn housing markets across the country, the reassuring refrain goes a little something like this: At least it's not as bad as Miami. Nowhere has the real estate slowdown hit as hard as it has here. At the height of the boom, speculators gorged on condos, lining up for lotteries and flipping paper units. Then, in 2005, the market turned, and the buyers vanished. But now the vultures are circling - almost literally.Peter Zalewski's year-old firm, Condo Vultures, tracks units that stall on the market for more than 100 days and shed at least 10 percent or $100,000 in price. His database now lists more than 1,400 condos. Zalewski recently let Fortune tag along as he sized up a vacant two-bedroom penthouse in a 35-story tower overlooking Biscayne Bay....
