I’m headed home on a dark and stormy Tuesday evening. It’s been a really long day and I’m totally starving! I still have a ton of stuff to do before the day is done. I’m thinking about stopping somewhere to get a bite to eat is a really good idea! I’ve been good about my diet lately and eating healthy with mostly greens, veggies, and rice and such, but I have to admit, I’ve been craving a big ol’ deluxe Burger and French Fries for a couple of weeks now!So what’s that have to do with real estate? :O) Well, nothing... But, as Grandma used to say, “You need to eat Mon chou (my cabbage). You’re growing and you’ve got lots to do!” (I digress, I know, but I am enjoying a few random thoughts. Thank you universe!) So I swung by one of my favorite spots in Renton, the Whistle Stop Ale House. The ...

I wasn’t even a sparkle in my Dad’s eye in 1936. He still had high school to get through then after graduating from Renton High in 1940 he was off to the Army and World War II. Dad was sent to England, the Normandy Invasion, and later served under Patton in the Battle of the Bulge. This is my family (circa 1936) with Grandpa George Fabre, left, Grandma Pauline, her mom, my Great Grandma Celine Boulanger Longville Delaurenti, Grandpa’s brother Jules and his sister (playing the accordion) Louise, my  Dad, Al, and his older brother, my Uncle Georgie...I’m thinking they're celebrating the purchase of this vacant lot. Grandpa will soon build their new home here on Tobin Avenue. With Father's Day coming up this weekend my Dad and Grandpa are crossing my thoughts. Both were self made men. Grand...

Wordless Wednesday: I’m set for the week! It’s Tuesday! I’m on my way through town for home and swing by the Renton Farmer’s Market. Everything looks so good today! Fresh veggies, fruits and flowers all look so wonderful this week.Fresh crispy organic apples from Wenatchee, Washington. A really nice variety including Honeycrisp, MacIntosh, and Granny Smith. Now these are real carrots! Organic, no pesticides, grown in dirt! Just like Grandpa’s garden.A huge selection of fresh flowers today! I love this Gladiolus Stargazer. That pistil is huge!A wonderful selection of wines from Wilridge Winery... I tasted a few reds' and really liked the Estate bottled Sangiovese. These are Eastern Washington wines from the Yakima Valley, Naches Heights area.And... a great aside, street music by Keith! I w...

Wordless Wednesday: We're in the Parade! Some of my fondest memories as a kid were being in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. These young guys are obviously totally in the moment together and having the time of their lives.  Renton River Days Parade, July 25, 2015, Renton, Washington. If you’re not in the parade, you watch the parade. That’s life. ~ Mike Ditka

I had a great Sunday afternoon in downtown Renton, July 12, 2015. South 3rd Street, the main drag through downtown, was closed to traffic for the 25th Annual Return to Renton 2015 Car Show. There was a great variety of cars to see (over 300 of them) from vintage antiques, muscle cars, roadsters, hotrods, a Maserati from the 80s, even a really cute little 1957 BMW Isetta 300.After a few of us had some fun with Endre Barath, Jr.'s  photo posting incident, the Algos Parse Mystery on Activerain last week, the case was quickly solved by some of our members with keen internet talents and also one with a lot of antique car knowledge. So today, a shoutout goes to Ed Silva who chimed in to clarify a few facts about Model A and B Fords to solve the case.At the car show I came upon this beauty. It’s...

The 25th Anniversary Return to Renton Car Show was a great success this weekend. I really had a great time looking at all the cars and talking to their owners.I was amazed at how many of the car models that were there I remember seeing as a kid around town. I really liked the mix of totally tricked out hotrods to some really fabulous totally restored and stock models.A few of my personal favorites were a 1951 Chevy Deluxe Coupe. This one touched my heart because one of the cars I learned to drive in was my Grandpa’s 1949 Chevy Business Man’s Coupe. Identical body and most everything else but less add ons and without skirts.I was probably under the influence of those British Invasion Rock Bands and the Spy Movies of the 60’s and 70’s. I thought the Jaguar XKE was one of the sexiest cars ...
