Saturday morning, October 17, 2010, we lost our church to arson. It was a lovely, small LDS church building, serving about 700-800 people since 1989.  Located in Mukilteo, WA, the building was a total loss. My husband just happened to drive past the chapel that morning, and was stunned to see the fire. Neighbors were talking in small groups, along with firefighters, local leaders, and news media. The Mukilteo Fire Department was still working to douse hot spots as he took these images. A church is a community's place of gathering; a center for weekly activities, weddings, memorials, and memories. Why would anyone attempt to destroy the peace of mind of a community by setting a fire? We may never know. Thankfully, Snohomish County, Everett, and City of Mukilteo leaders are working togeth...

A quick review of some of REALTOR.com's latest stories provides us with the finding that Mukilteo, in Snohomish County, is in their Top 10 list of places to live.  One of my band mates lives in Mukilteo in a gorgeous home overlooking Puget Sound and the islands, I'm pretty sure his house doesn't fit the magazine's definition of "affordable" but it sure is nice. I was happy to see that an area of our state was listed as we've dropped off the top 10 in many other magazine ratings over the past few years because of the rising prices of real estate.  Guess the past 2 years of price drops has brought us back on the radar a bit as still being relatively affordable compared to other coastal areas still.

Mukilteo is a quiet, suburan city just 25 miles North of Seattle.  It has an award-winning school district, beautiful views of the Puget Sound, master-planned neighborhoods, and an overall charming appeal.  Money Magazine seems to agree. The Money Magazine list of the top 10 best places to live list was just released, and Mukilteo checked in at number 10.  This is a big accolade for a city that is many times overshadowed by its larger neighbors.  The homes were selected based on good schools, affordable homes, low crime rates, and strong economies. We are constantly purchasing new artwork and usually use between 12 and 20 pieces of art in each staging. Artwork is truly the "finishing" touch!  Here are examples from some homes we have staged:   Dining Room:  This canvas artwork was selected for this dining room to bring some of the kitchen colors into the dining room, and for it's size.  The blue/green from the kitchen backsplash tile and countertops is reflected in the artwork.   Master Bedroom:  This framed artwork stands in for a headboard, making the bed one of the focal points of the room.  The reflecting pond and stately villa depicted in the artwork give an added bit of elegance to this room.   Media Room:  This space had a niche for a t.v., so we used a faux t.v. with a fabulous city scene.  Also in this room is a colorful ...

I am sorry to have been absent for the most part for a few days.  I have been collecting offers and fielding phone calls for my new listing in the Seattle suburb of Mukilteo - four so far in just a few days!  Real estate is not dead and anyone who wants to be all doom and gloom should take note:  There are buyers out there!  If you are on the fence, get off because this is the buyer's market in Seattle you have been waiting for!  Even with a great market full of choices, there is still going to be competition  - just not as much right now so get on it! One of my favorite spaces to stage is the kitchen breakfast bar.  The kitchen is truly the "heart of the home" and these breakfast bars are a great place for socializing with the chef, doing homework, enjoying a cup of coffee while perusing the morning paper, or for serving breakfast to the kids before they head out the door for school.  I have fond memories of sitting at my grandmother's breakfast bar with my sisters, visiting with "Granny" as we affectionately called her, as she fried up some chicken for dinner (with lard she saved in a tin can), made coffee in the old percolator, rolled out pie crust and told us about her growing up years as the eldest of 13 children.  Staging the "heart of the home" is more that just adding a few items to the counter tops. It's creating a space that...

Mukilteo homes are some of the most desirable on the market.  With the town's name meaning "good camping spot", one can trust that the area has been a wonderful place to live for centuries. Mukilteo homes make perfect use of the town's excellent location.  With sparkling Puget Sound to the west and bustling Everett and Interstate 5 to the east, residents of Mukilteo homes have quick access to nature, jobs, and amenities.  Many residents work right in the affluent town, while others drive a few, short minutes to an Everett job.  Others commute 35 minutes to Seattle.  (In fact, as real estate prices have increased drastically in and around Seattle, more and more people are choosing to live in beautiful Mukilteo homes they would be unable to afford in King County.                          ...

Mukilteo condominiums defy all stereotypes of multi-family housing.  Far more spacious and luxurious than the typical condo, Mukilteo condominiums attract retirees, families, and residents looking for high-end living rather than buyers simply seeking a starter home. Many Mukilteo condominiums boast waterfront views and direct beach access.  Living room windows look out onto sparkling Puget Sound, the lights of Whidbey Island, and the colorful sunsets.  Residents are just a quick stroll to their complex's private dock or park, oftentimes including barbecue pits and lush lawns.   These amenities provide residents of waterfront Mukilteo condominiums with far more than they could hope to have in a single-family home, while often sacrificing nothing else but a few non-shared walls. Other Muk...

Mukilteo is a great place to live and it seems like all the big magazine polls are figuring this out.  Last year, Mukilteo was named one of Business Week's "Top 25 Affordable Suburbs."  Last week, Mukilteo came in #69 in the Money Magazine "Top 100 Places to Live" poll, one of only four Washington state communities to make the list.  I posted about this on my blog, click here to see more.
