More than trees... Lake Forest Park is known for its natural setting and beauty - the city is filled with gorgeous trees and nestled on the banks of Lake Washington just to the North of Seattle.  It also has a great urban gathering spot filled with all the necessities of life, but did you know this Seattle suburb is also filled with parks? Here is a great list to get you going: http://www.cityoflfp.com/community/places/default.html But also don't forget the Burke-Gilman Trail! http://www.ci.seattle.wa.us/Parks/BurkeGilman/bgtrail.htm The Burke-Gilman Trail runs right through Lake Forest Park on the Lake Washington side of town - this is a great way to bike or hike all throughout nearby areas! Time to clean up and here's help... Wow we have had some storms!  With all the trees in Lake Forest Park is it great that the city is willing to help out on this one!  Tomorrow Saturday January 3rd from 9AM until 2PM there will be a FREE bulky yard waste pick up at Lake Forest Park City Hall. Bring any yard waste that are too big to fit into your yard waste container - Christmas trees, downed branches, etc.  No need to cut up the Christmas trees - they will take them whole and there will be crews there to help you empty debris form your cars to the green dumpsters there. All free for city residents - enter through the upper parking lot. Interested in Lake Forest Park Real Estate?

Here is some useful information during this frigid winter of ours.........   20 Ways to Cut Energy Bills 1.    Don’t overstock the fridge; this blocks the air from flowing and uses more energy. 2.    Use a toaster oven for small meals or reheating. 3.    Use a slow cooker rather than the oven. 4.    Use glass or ceramic pans, they hold heat better and allow you to cook at a lower temperature (25 degrees lower)and for the same amount of time.  5.    For Christmas lights, use LED lights. 6.    Buying a new TV?  Buy only EnergyStar rated. 7.    Dry clothes on an indoor drying rack instead of using the dryer for everything. 8.    Refrain from using the fireplace when its 20 degrees or below, most of the heat escapes out the chimney. 9.    In a wood burning fireplace, use logs that are 4-6 i...

The financial news of late has been anything but rosy, and it is the last of my intentions to add fuel to the fire.  The housing market is where I butter my bread, after all. But I would like to point out how this mess that originated with the housing market, is affecting our housing market here in Lake Forest Park and North Seattle in general. I think at one point we felt immune to what the rest of the Nation was dealing with, but that tune is slowly changing.   Did you know that in August there were 270 active residential listings (single family and condos) on the market in Lake Forest Park?  And guess how many sold properties there were? Hazard to make a guess? 3.  That's right, 3.  That's about a 1% absorption rate, which the percentage of houses sold vs. active listings. In  just ...

If you live in Lake Forest Park, you are lucky enough to have two Beach Clubs to choose from. That is, if you live in the right neighborhood.  Where you live in LFP determines which Beach Club you have deeded rights to, and if you don't live in one of the desired areas, then you're going to have to head South to Magnuson Park for the public beach. The Sheridan Beach club is probably the more exclusive of the two.   It boasts not only a sandy beachfront and sailing activities, but a pool as well.  Though our summers can be short, there is nothing like a day on Lake Washington in the summertime.   Deeded Area Mark Jaeger, in charge of memberships at the club was kind enough to send me this map of the deeded area where you must live in order to become a member.  There are also associate m...

Lake Forest Park is one of the most green cities I can think of around Seattle -  I love this environmentally friendly city and that is why having a green holiday season is a perfect theme for this Seattle Suburb!  I know it is early, but since the holiday stuff is popping up in the stores everywhere, I figured I better get this in!  I have a lot of tips this year on having a green holiday, but this is a biggie and I am loving it! Here is the big #1 tip assuming you already know not to cut down a tree (duh): Switch to Holiday LED Lights!!!!!  I had no idea that the newer Holiday LED Lights were so great!!!!  I knew they were wonderful, but had no idea just how much of an impact they can make.   If you can find the solar LED lights, too, then I will be in awe of you so let me know where ...

Posted September 2nd, 2008 on LakeForestMark.com   Were any of you aware that the speed limit on the Burke Gilman Trail is 5 mph slower than in the City of Seattle? Yes, while the rest of the city is fine with would-be Tour De France entrants zooming along at 15 mph, the City of Lake Forest Park has set up a de facto speed trap between Seattle and Kenmore with well hidden 10 mph signs along the way. I know that we fancy ourselves a sleepy little Suburb, but are we really 5 mph slower than the rest of Seattle? My peeps on the street tell me that there have been at times  2 of LFP's finest monitoring bike traffic on the Burke-Gilman. Not only that, but they are wearing yellow jerseys, presumably in homage to our presumed steroid-free National Hero , Lance Armstrong.   I'm taking this as ...

Posted September 1st, 2008 by LakeForestMark Pulitzer Prizea and National Book Award winning author Philip Roth will be  not be at 3rd Place Books on September 16th at 5 PM, but a reasonable facsimile will be.   There will be a live Webcast interview with Roth on the above mentioned date and time.  The author's new book Indignation Day is out and, while he is not out actively promoting the book, he will be beamed in live over the Web. I guess when you are 75 years old and have won nearly every award possible as a writer and have had your books turned into screenplays, you are allowed a little slack in this department. Roth is probably most famous for his novel Portnoy's Complaint Pre-purchase Indignation today, and be entered to win a signed, first edition copy. You must be present to ...

Doug Swan, Rabid Obama Supporter...   Great to see all of you at the Obama Fundraiser in Lake Forest Park last night (especially You, Doug. Serves me right to leave my camera unattended...)   As promised, there was music, there was food (lots!), and a nice, positive vibe throughout the evening. The music ranged from a band of young rockers(sorry as I've forgotten your name. Call me!), to the mellow jazz sound of The Deems as night began to fall.   We were even treated to a rousing rendition of Yes We Can by the young fellas on stage with random supporters joining onstage to help out.     The Deems Young Rockers           I would like to personally thank Marty Josen for graciously leading me the way to his private stash of Limoncello neatly tucked away in a nondescript blue igloo.   You...

Posted August 19th, 2008 on www.lakeforestmark.com     As I set about my education into all things green and earth friendly (which has been exponentially accelerated by fellow blogger and my Newest Bestest Buddy Aaron Campbell of Campbell Energy), the one idea that I keep coming back to is, "How can I be the most environmentally responsible person that I can be.........reasonably". By reasonably, I mean without going out and forking over tons of money and spending gobs of time on things that may or may not improve my impact on the earth and my expenditure of energy. I think this is on everyone's mind to some extent.  So where does one start? Quick Confession:  I drive a 4 door sedan with a V8 engine. Not exactlly environmentally friendly.   When I bought it 4 years ago, I was thinking ...
