After hearing that I was awarded 2500 points on Active Rain yesterday (Thank you Active Rain & Jim Frimmer!!),I was inspired to go out and take a few shots of my neighborhood.  In yesterday afternoon's blog, I gave you a shot of the waterfront of Redondo Washington, the building in this photograph is actually part of the buildings that you see in yestersdays blog, but this one is special.  It is the home of the Marine Science & Tech Center which is owned by Highline Community College. This center represents the only college owned facility with direct saltwater access and it is the third largest aquarium in Washington State. I had no idea!  They are open to the public every Saturday from 10-2 p.m., and you can bet on the fact that I will be heading there soon to check it out.  After all ... 02/10/2010

Yes, while the East Coast is getting hammered by snow, we in the Pacific Northwest are enjoying a very mild winter.  In fact, can you even call it a winter? The Olympic Winter Games are being held in Vancouver, BC, which is just 162 miles north of us.  This is the warmest January in Vancouver history - really bad timing, but what can you do?  Bring the snow in by helicopter and they have:  5,000 cubic meters so far! Last year, we were hammered with the biggest snowfall I remember having here - ever.  I took this photo at lunch today.  What you are looking at is the Redondo (Washington) pier and some beachfront.  Behind me is a very long boardwalk that extends for quite a ways with people jogging or walking up and down it.  Who says it always rains here?   Julie Booth 206-429-2696 02/09/2010

One of the delights of this afternoon was dropping off of a Fed X at Mail, Copy & More, located in Dash Point Village in Federal Way.  As I waiting in line, the Gent on the far left was mailing a package of Valentine's Day candy to his Granddaughter.  He insisted that it was his wifes idea and not his, but I couldn't help but smile at the wonderful sentiment. Federal Way has many different attributes, such as a very active Chamber of Commerce but what really makes it stand apart are the very friendly people in the community. I am delighted to have moved to this town and set up my business mail box here at Mail, Copy & More. Happy to Report that, based on MLS (realtor) data, 40% of the home sales that closed in January were 40% 'standard' equity sales - not REO (bank owned) and not short sales .. yeah!! That's the good news. The other news is that we have a 13 month supply of homes based on active listings to closed sales for the month. Inventory is increasing. The average home price for closed sales was $279,000, and the days on market average was On Feb 1, 2010 we had 318 homes Active Listings for sale with a median average price of $280,000 .. prices range from a low of $79,999 to a high of $1,690,000.
