The city of DuPont as we know it today is a thriving community, but did you know about its explosive history?   In 1906, DuPont was the location of the Powder Works Explosive factory where dynamite was produced up until 1976.   Factory workers made this “Village” their home.  The Village in DuPont is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and remains the only company town in Washington State with most of its 110 historic homes intact.  In 1994, Northwest Landing, a master planned community, was developed on 3,200 acres.   The last time I checked we still had a leash law here in DuPont Washington.  So if we have a leash law, why do I find piles of dog pooh on the front lawns of so many of the fine homes we have for sale? Something we must face, if we take our dogs for a walk, is they may relieve themselves along the way.  I am always prepared when I walk my dog for what may happen.  Why do you take your dog for a walk and let him do this to your neighbor. Your poor neighbor is trying to sell his house and the first thing that "would be" buyer sees is your dog's calling card.  What kind of first impression does this give your neighborhood and DuPont in general. How much is my lily pad worth? I am still amazed how many people call up and ask for a price estimate on their house sight unseen.  I do not incorporate a crystal ball in my business and there are so many variables to price a house over the phone.  But I still get these phone calls wanting, you guessed it, instant gratification. So I thought I would take it down to the simplest of terms, the fairy tale.  When you look at a  pond of lily pads, you see all shapes, colors, and condition of plant life.  Is your lily pad, in the middle group (downtown) or are you at the edge (suburbs).  You have to know what neighborhood the lily pad is in. I had to run some errands today, this included going to Target an Office Depot. What a mistake! I forgot it was back to school time and boy did I pay for it. Talk about lines. While I stood in line, I couldn’t help but hear the main topic was marking clothes and backpacks as to be able to have them come home after a long day at school. After all, when your backpack; Can cost up to $200 Comes in, what seems only 3 colors, red, blue or black Looks brand new How do you mark it so your child doesn’t look like a dweeb? Last week, I was on a walk through with a builder and we were trying to find all the keys and garage door openers before we left for escrow. (4 keys, 2 garage door openers in all, we think) I was amassed how many keys were out to how many people. I keep telling my clients to change the locks after they move into their new home but I still find several of my past clients who haven't changed those locks. They all have great reasons; The sellers were moving out of state and we felt at ease with that. What are the chances? That will never happen to us. We have an Alarm System. We have a gun. We trust the sellers. We don't have the money right now. We have Home Owners Insurance. I also remind my clients to change the codes on the Garage Door Opener and Alarm System. It is now being overlooked by many qualified service personal that the $8000 tax credit lives on. You can not only still get the $8000 tax credit but you also can enjoy interest rates hovering around 5% for VA loans. Remember; Members of the U.S. armed forces, military intelligence, and some foreign civil service members on qualified extended duty get an extra year to take either the first time $8000 buyer's credit or the $6500 secondary tax credit . And if you or your spouse has been deployed overseas for 90 days or more in 2008 or 2009, you have until April 30, 2011 to claim the tax credit.
