HAPPY EASTER FROM WILLIAMSBURG, VIRGINIA!Let me tell you how wonderful it is to be a resident of Williamsburg, VA.  Today, my husband and I stained our deck.  While doing so, we spotted that the neighbor on the next street had had some extensive landscaping done to their backyard.  I suggested we go over, introduce ourselves (it's a new neighborhood) and ask if we can see their yard.Well, not only did he let us see his backyard, he invited us into his home and showed us the entire house!  Turns out that he's a principal in Williamsburg, VA of an alternative school.  He's a warm, friendly, caring individual.  And, he even expressed interest in purchasing some property!! I'm glad that I dragged my husband to see the yard (even though he didn't want to)!  It ...

The word on the street is that the market is terrible.  That couldn't be farthest from the truth in Williamsburg, VA.  Real estate is truly local.  The news reports are leading the public to believe that the real estate market everywhere is in shambles.  So, not true in Williamsburg, VA.  Last month, there were 118 transactions in Williamsburg, VA.  That is according to a search done on the Williamsburg Multiple Listing Service.  The search included James City County and a portion of York County  (which make up Williamsburg), and Williamsburg City.  There is a lot to be said for that many transactions in our little town.  It screams...the market is good and thriving!  We are o.k. in Williamsburg, VA.  I know it is not this way everywhere, which is why I invite those who have a choice ab...

GREETINGS! I find myself constantly swerving off track on my path to SEO-dom!  Boy, are there so many things to do.  I have a website.  I thought I was pretty internet savvy.  Then I started searching and researching and realized that it can be overwhelming.BUT, I have no fears and I have no worries.  Why, you ask?  Because I live in Williamsburg, VA...only the best city on the planet.  Why just today, I took a drive on the Colonial Parkway.  It is just about the most beautiful drive.  The leaves have never completely fallen off the trees so there's still a lot of foliage.  Daffodils are popping up everywhere even though spring hasn't sprung yet.  We've been having weird weather here in Williamsburg VA.  One day it's warm; the next day it's freezing.  The poor grass and flowers don't kn...

As a realtor in Chickahominy Haven I know we all are concerned about our property values and our taxes with James City County.  I wanted to give you some information on the Storm Water Fee that was included on our Real Estate Tax bill due on December 5th.  The Storm Water Division was established this year to ensure that the collection and control of storm water within the county protects the health and welfare of the citizens here. All home owners in JCC are being charged a minimum of $58.80 a year (based on the median square foot home in JCC of 3235 s.f.).  If your home is smaller than that - which most of our homes are - we are still charged the $58.80 a year.  Even if the whole neighborhood paid the minimum Storm Water Fee of $58.80 - Chickahominy Haven is paying the county approxim...

New Town is right around the corner from my house. I didn't know much about it when i moved in, and what i know now is mostly experiential. I've heard it's a concept that was discussed for a long time in this area and is just now coming together. The sign says "founded 1997," but I can tell you I didn't see a brick there until 2003 or so.  I love the concept and the execution of the open-air collection of residential and retail development. New Town is a major improvement over the alternatives -- an indoor shopping mall, a strip mall or a cluster of big-box stores. I find the architecture of the individual buildings as well as the blended Main Street look appealing. There are some parks and a gazebo sprinkled in as well, so you could relax between all the things there are to do there. I...

From an article in the Daily Press:Mortgage banker Michael Mapes has approved loans for about 17 clients who have a new home they want to get into, but they can't sell their own homes. It should be a buyer's market for homes on the Peninsula, but sellers in the region are still holding out for - and often getting - double digit gains from a year ago. Many sellers who want to trade up to a bigger house are unwilling to accept that the recent bull market is over.As a result, inventory has built up substantially over the past few years and it is taking much longer to sell a house. Sales are still strong at lower sales prices and in select markets, such as the city of Williamsburg, but the high inventory and prices can't co-exist much longer."The inventory's been built up because sellers are...
