This is just a reminder that on the 18th of August, 2011, Paul Anka will be performing at Wolftrap. I for one believe the concert will be an incredible event worth being a part of. Paul has enjoyed three No. 1 hits, as well as 22 Top 20 appearances, and the most-played theme song for Johnny Carson’s Tonight Show.Remember, the great thing about Wolftrap is you can sit indoors or on the lawn. In times past when I've sat on the lawn, I've enjoyed the concert, brought our own picnic lunch and met many wonderful people. If you would like to learn more, simply follow the link:Paul Anka

With school system budgets cuts one class often on the chopping block is art.    Yet almost any child  likes to create.  Whether its with it's with a crayon, construction paper and glue or pine cones covered with glitter the look of satisfaction when they are done is priceless.  To help keep the creativity going, every month a group of mosaic artists in Northern Virginia spend time creating  mosaic pieces to raffle to raise money for scholarships for Military families to attend free workshops at local mosaic studios in Northern Virginia.  In addition other local artists are contributing works to be included in future raffles to support the program. Some of the classes they can choose to attend include a mosaic bootcamp for adults, holiday gift building workshops and summer art camp for ...

Those of us who live and work in Tysons Corner are fully aware of the traffic congestion.  Sadly, the traffic situation has only gotten worse with the construction of the Metrorails four substations and the High-Occupancy Toll Lanes… HOT project construction.  Both of these projects, when completed, will help ease traffic congestion.  However, with all of the future growth planned for Tysons Corner, a long term traffic and infrastructure solution must be found to keep up with this growth. The question is who will be paying for Tysons Corner’s road and transit upgrade and infrastructure requirements that will come with this growth? It is estimated that it will cost $1.7 billion and take approximately 20 years to make the road and transit upgrades.  We will need to widen roads, make buses...

Most of my past blogs about Tysons Corner, McLean, and Vienna point out what's going on in this great area where people love to work, shop, and live. Tysons Corner is the "downtown" of Fairfax County, so what happens throughout the county is of great concern. As a lifelong resident and Realtor ® of Fairfax County, I want to take this opportunity to reach out to my fellow Fairfax County residents to lend a helping hand to many organizations that need volunteers. Whatever skill you have, there is an organization nearby that could use your services. If you like retail, Inova Health Systems is seeking both adult and teen volunteers at all of their hospital locations to work in the gift shop.  For more information, please visit Inova Health Systems web site.  Also, The Treasure Shop in McLea...

In an April article by Liz Farmer that appeared in The Washington Examiner on line, planner Neal Payton stated, "New town center's success hinges on creating an identity."  He also had just one question for Tysons Corner and Montgomery County-"Who do they think they are?" As a lifelong resident and top Realtor® in Tysons Corner, I would like to answer that question as it relates to Tysons Corner. Tysons Corner is a thriving business center set in the middle of an affluent area with a strong customer base; as a matter of fact, we are one of the largest business districts in the nation.  The American Girl Store sure knew of Tysons Corner's identity, which is why we were selected as the location of its tenth store.  (My recent American Girl Store blog will tell you exactly why Tysons Corne...

Well summer is here! Some of the best things about summer are the Farmer's Markets in and around the Tysons Corner area. As a local resident and top Realtor® in Fairfax County, I enjoy having easy local access to the fresh fruits and vegetables which are a very important part of healthy eating. It's easy to stock up for the week. Many of the local markets are open one or two days a week and offer wonderful accompaniments to the seafood offered in our local aquaculture farms. Check out Capa Organic and select a fruit or vegetable recipe from their recipe index to prepare with your favorite fish recipe. Just check the list of Farmer's Markets in Fairfax County to find the location closest to your home. Visit the Fruit and Veggie Guru to learn about the benefits that you will reap by addin...

Well, summer is finally here, and the Tyson’s Corner area is the place to be.  Children are out of school, and as parents, we are looking for activities to occupy their time.  We want our children to have fun, but we also want to make sure their minds are challenged. McLean is fortunate to be one of the three sites for TIC Summer Camp. TIC Sumer Camp actually has a curriculum for kids 7–16 that combines technology and sports.  The McLean campus is located at the Oakcrest School.  Classes start June 27, and are filling up fast. McLean is also home to Modeling Camp.  Modeling Camp has a summer program for girls ages 7-18 in Fashion, Modeling, Etiquette, and Fashion Design. The Modeling Camp summerprograms will be held at the Westpark Hotel.  Of course, after a day of modeling camp, the g...

Aquaculture is the raising and harvesting of fresh and saltwater plants and animals.  This is a growing industry in Virginia, including right in Vienna.  Aquaculture farms thrive in Virginia because this great state made a sound business decision in the 1900's to offer ten-year, renewable, oyster bottom leases--at a nominal rate--to private growers.  Clams are perfect candidates for Aquaculture.  If clams are harvested in the morning, they can be on your dinner table or at your favorite seafood restaurant within a 24-hour period.  This is possible because the largest producer of farm-raised, hard-shell littlenecks in the United States, Ballard Fish & Oyster Co., is harvesting those little jewels all along Virginia's Eastern Shore.  Aquaculture in Virginia is not limited to clams.  Bass,...

Let's visit the Memorial Day Celebration at Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts.   The United States Marine Band performs followed by fireworks.         By the way, if you are not familiar with our military bands, these folks are master musicians. Most in the USMC Band have masters degrees in music with a fair number of Phds. These men and women are at the top of their profession and it shows.         You can check out the USMC Band's mission, schedule, members and their musical backgrounds right here: http://www.marineband.usmc.mil/I've included two videos here. The first captures the sights at Wolf Trap and a video of the fireworks. Even though we got to the park early, we were seated too far back to get good sound and video of the performance itself, so I have also i...

Over the past 40 years, Tysons Corner has transformed itself from rural farms to the 12th largest central business district in the United States. The quintessential city, Tysons Corner is the largest suburban business district in the entire United States. Its 35 million square feet of office space (including nearby Dunn Loring) make it bigger than all but a handful of the country's biggest downtowns. With two opulent shopping malls it's also the largest and best retail district on the East Coast after Midtown Manhattan. It is twice the size of the downtown Atlanta area or about the same size as Denver. The only identified “urban center” in Fairfax County, Tysons is the “downtown” of Fairfax County and the economic engine of the Fairfax area with an employment base of 110,000 that gener...

Vienna VA is a beautiful town of about 16,000 residents in Fairfax County, just outside Washington DC. Let's go take a look as she puts on her Spring Charm.             You may not think you have heard of Vienna but if you've  watched concerts on PBS over the years, you have. Vienna is the home of the country's only national park for the performing arts: Wolf Trap. Vienna also contains some of the prettiest portions of the Washington & Old Dominion Railroad Regional Park, which is 45 miles long but only 100 feet wide! Folks can bike ride from Arlington to Leesburg. It is awesome! For me, it is hard to think of Vienna without thinking of Tysons Corner.Another place you may have never heard of, but all by its little self it is the 12th largest employment center in the nation. Most of...

Greg Rand, a 20-year real estate veteran, Fox Business commentator, and columnist for Realtor Magazine, says NOW is the time to invest in real estate. Rand compares the current market to the year following the Great Depression when market conditions sparked a boom that sustained 65 years of appreciation in real estate. "This economic crisis, while similar to the Great Depression, is also unique in the way that the housing market played a central role in the crisis." Rand said, "It is true that this is a once-in-a-generation crisis; but, it is also true that this is a once-in-a-generation oppportunity! A little optimism can go a long way toward spurring real estate back to life. The deluge of pessimism is the cause of much of the economic hardship. More people are unemployed because suc...

Northern Virginia Home Search- Click Here! Historically low interest rates have been around for several years now, but they won’t last forever. With the economy showing signs of improvement, interest rates will begin to climb in the second half of 2011. If you want to purchase a new home or refinance an existing one, lower interest rates  translate into lower monthly payments and lower interest paid over the life of the loan. And because it’s still a buyer’s market in most areas, lower interest rates may give you increased purchasing power if you’re ready to buy a home.  NOW IS ONE OF THE GREATEST TIMES IN DECADES TO BUY A HOME!! Northern Virginia Home Search- Click Here! ‘It’s Time to Buy Again,’ says Fortune TIME TO BUY: The cover story in the April edition of Fortune magazine trumpets that “housing is back.“ “After four years of plunging home prices, the most attractive asset class in America is housing,” proclaims Fortune magazine, one of the world’s premier business publications, in its April cover story. The article, headlined “The Return of Real Estate,” explains that several market forces have created a more promising outlook for the industry. An excerpt: So let’s state it simply and forcibly: Housing is back. Two basic factors are laying the foundation for dramatic recovery in residential real estate. The first is the historic drop in new construction. The second is a steep decline in prices, on the or...
