VDOT suggested to Suffolk officials that they put all of its state road building money for the next five years away for the Kings Highway Bridge.  With the money the city was going to put towards the bridge, it would almost pay for the bridge.  No one is quite sure what impact that would have on the rest of the roads in Suffolk but as a layman I can say it would be have quite an impact.  Hopefully the city will be able to come up with somewhat of a better idea.http://www.geneallen.com/  Come and see ALL the Homes for Sale in Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Norfolk, as well as the rest of Hampton Roads.  This site is updated daily with new real estate listings, pictures and other information vital to your home search.Google gene allen

How do I clean the soap scum in the shower?  I have used bleach, nylon pot scrubber, baking soda, dishwasher Magic, X-14 and White Rain Shampoo or any white shampoo will do.  They all work in their own way.  The best way I have found is to do away with soap and use a liquid type soap to wash with.  For some reason that does not leave a film or scum on the shower.http://www.geneallen.com/  Come and see ALL the Homes for Sale in Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Norfolk, as well as the rest of Hampton Roads.  This site is updated daily with new real estate listings, pictures and other information vital to your home search.Google geneeallen

Sounds like a deal to me.  Loose more weight then the others and make some money.  The ladies at Mount Zion elementary school got together and decided to loose some weight.  They got organized into a ten week program and paid $25 apiece for the privilege.  The money will go to the the three women who loose the greatest percentage of weight.  They will be lighter but their wallets will be heavier.http://www.deniseallen.com/  Come and see ALL the Homes for Sale in Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Norfolk, as well as the rest of Hampton Roads.  This site is updated daily with new real estate listings, pictures and other information vital to your home search.Google deniseallen

Alvin Wilson II is the director of the band and wants to see it go higher and further.  To that end, the practices are harder and he advocates the band members prepare more strenuously, like running as much as two miles a day.  The new attitude has paid off with nine trophies last fall.  All were first place.  The performances are more of a variety show now then just a single style performance.  Wilson is also touring middle schools' to try and drum up new band members.  There are 75 now and he wants to increase that number to 150.  http://www.geneallen.com/  Come and see ALL the Homes for Sale in Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Norfolk, as well as the rest of Hampton Roads.  This site is updated daily with new real estate listings, pictures and other information vital to your home search.G...

In a turn of events, city council is considering moving the proposed Public Health Building from Kings Fork Rd/Pruden Blvd to "The Fairgrounds" in downtown Suffolk.  The building would go on a piece of land that needs compacting because of prior building.  It will add to the expense but will mean the building would be closer to the people who need it.  Lets' hope the council moves forward on this proposal.http://www.geneallen.com/  Come and see ALL the Homes for Sale in Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Norfolk, as well as the rest of Hampton Roads.  This site is updated daily with new real estate listings, pictures and other information vital to your home search.Google gene allen

In Suffolk recently about 20 people fanned out to count the homeless.  It was part of an annual survey to count homeless people.  Only two were found this year.  I doubt if that is an accurate count but it is one that you have to go with.  The city although small population wise is quite large geographically.http://www.deniseallen.com/  Come and see ALL the Homes for Sale in Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Norfolk, as well as the rest of Hampton Roads.  This site is updated daily with new real estate listings, pictures and other information vital to your home search.Google deniseallen

If you are into golf, then this is the place to be.Home buyers looking for custom-built, spacious, upscale homes in a rural setting should be sure to check out Hillpoint Farms in Suffolk. The community is located adjacent to Nansemond River Golf Club, and has been wonderfully built out by the developer.  The site also is close to the Nansemond River, which can be seen from some of the home's upper floors. Hillpoint Farms will consist of the neighborhoods of Hillpoint Greens, Lake's Edge, Hillpoint Meadows, Fairways Crossing, The Vistas, and Hillpoint Woods Apartments.  These homes  lining Hillpoint Boulevard make up the collection of sprawling housing developments that was once the site of the Rountree Dairy Farm. The homes will range in size from 1,200 for the condos to more than 4,000...

No job application?  Wow that's pretty good but considering that Selena Cuffee-Glen has been with the city since 2005, maybe none was needed.  She won Vice Mayor Curtis Milteer over on a trip to New York.  City officials were trying to get the nations top three bond rating agencies to improve the cities outlook financially.  Cuffee-Glenn played an important role and two of the three agencies responded by withdrawing their "negative outlook".  Most everybody thought of her when Jim Johnson, the current city manager, announced his retirement.  There was talk of looking outside but sometimes it pays to promote from within. http://www.geneallen.com/  Come and see ALL the Homes for Sale in Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Norfolk, as well as the rest of Hampton Roads.  This site is updated daily ...

Justin Nelson and his wife want to move but so far he can't.  It seems he received his property from his father by way of a family transfer.  Suffolk is the only local city that allows local transfers and one of the stipulations is that you can't sell the property for ten years.  Mr. Nelson received a job transfer to Roanoke and is asking the city council to approve the sale of his home in Suffolk.  It should be interesting to see how it comes out. http://www.geneallen.com/  Come and see ALL the Homes for Sale in Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Norfolk, as well as the rest of Hampton Roads.  This site is updated daily with new real estate listings, pictures and other information vital to your home search.Google gene allen

Two schools scheduled to merge have been spared. Suffolk has been grappling for a long time whether to merge Southwestern Elementary and Robertson Elementary but have finally decided to let the two schools stand. The class sizes are small, both are fully accredited and the parents don't want the village feel of the schools to go away. There would have been a great savings every year by having one school but the parents have won out. Southwestern will get a $21. 9 millon renovation and Robertson will get a facelift and expansion expected to cost $10.8 million.                                                                      http://www.geneallen.com/ Come and see ALL the Homes for Sale in Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Norfolk, as well as the rest of Hampton Roads. City Manager Jim Vacalis is leaving.  This is the fourth top level administrator to leave in the last 18 months.  What's going on there.  If this was a company it would be in big trouble.  Let's hope Suffolk can get its act together and stop the bleeding at city hall.

47 of Michael Vick's pit bulls are to be placed with eight animal groups.  22 of them will go to the Best Friends Animal Society of Kaneb, Utah.  One will to the Animal Rescue of Tidewater in Chesapeake.  Believe it or not, the dogs have a court appointed guardian, Rebecca J. Huss.  She has the responsibility of finding a place for each dog.

Starting this week Public Works will begin work to transform part of Pinner Street into a one-way street.  Going northbound from Bank St to Finney Ave will be one way.  This is expected to ease residents concerns about speeding and congestion in the area.  The city will look at the problem in 90 days to see if any additional work needs to be don.

Interstate I664 and the North U.S. 17 exit ramp will be closed for a week.  Why you ask?  Because the train tracks are being moved just a bit.  In fact it is happening in several cities.  The tracks are being moved to the median so that that there aren't as many at grade crossings.  Why now?  Because the new terminal in Portsmouth means more rail traffic.  The detour is expected to last three months.

Suffolk's first redevelopment has a hit a bit of a snag.  It seems it could take more then six years to complete the project.  The latest problem is buried construction debris under half of the site.  The debris comes from a Planters Peanut plant that was imploded in 1995 and left on the site.  The cost to remidiate the debris may be around $200,000.  Added to the already $6.3 million dollar shortfall, things are not looking good.  City officials have repeatedly said that the Fairgrounds will go forward.

The Suffolk City Council vote to give the South Hampton Roads Habitat for Humanity $280,000 to buy 14 lots for the Organization's building blizt.  This is supposed to take place next year in the area of Huntersville.  The money came from the new affordable housing trust fund.  Now all they need is money for sewer and water connections as well as building permits.  People of Suffolk, lets give a little more.

A human skull found recently by cemetery workers was likely from a person who died a long time ago.  The medcal examiners said ti appears to be old.  The skull was in a plastic grocery bag at the Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens and Chapel Mausoleum when it was found.  Why or where it came from may never be known.

Three legislators from our area have been nominated to serve on the Hampton Roads Transportation Authority.  Our own Del Chris Homes, R-Suffolk will have the privilage of being one of a few that will help fund some much needed road improvements.  Hopefully the authority will get the right things done in a minimal amount of time.

!!!It’s Here; It’s Here!!! The Pungo (Virginia Beach) Strawberry Festival Of Course May 26th-27th 9am-7pm The parade will begin 10am May 26th Why will the one-traffic light hamlet of Pungo have a population boom this weekend of over 120,000 people? Three words explain it: Pungo Strawberry Festival. For the past 24 years, the village has hosted the annual two-day celebration honoring it s sentimental favorite fruit. From a small grass roots festival of 50,000 guests at the inaugural Memorial Day weekend fest to last year's 120,000. No money comes from the city and proceeds go back to the community. "It 's a great, family-friendly, fun event," said Sheriff Paul J. Lanteigne, a longtime festival volunteer and this year's honorary mayor of Pungo. "This is an old-time event that brings ever...
