If you are a criminal looking for a community to rob then Prince William County VA has one for you to consider.  But only if you want to spend the rest of your life behind bars.  Tucked away on Quantico MCB is the little hamlet of Hogan’s Alley.  If you could drive down the street you would find a town that resembles any town US.  Houses, post office and yes a bank line the street.  Yet at any moment a robbery or shooting can take place. Hogan’s Alley is part of the 10 acre training facility for new FBI agents located at the FBI Academy on the grounds of Quantico MCB in Triangle VA.  Having a father who was an FBI agent for 35 years meant tales of the crime sprees in Hogan’s Alley were always good for a story at dinner. Hogan’s Alley was designed with the help of Hollywood set designers...

Whenever people call and say they are relocating to the area, and they first begin the conversation with "I've heard commuting and getting around can be a real bear. So,I don't want a long commute. " That's a great starting point. If you were here in my office we would sit down in front of a map and discuss the length of commute you can expect as we get further away from your respective base or workplace. Once you have determined the search peramiters( distance, features and ammenities), we begin looking at what homes are in your price range. Just know that Realtors have the ability with the Realtors MRIS Database system to be able to focus your search on the exact type of home you are looking for. However since you are most likely sitting in your home far away right now, let me help yo...

As part of a base initiative to reach out to local schools in the communities surrounding Quantico MCB, Marines headed back to school last week to assist teachers in classrooms. "Adopt-A-School programs offer a great opportunity to build awareness and support for community involvement in education by mentoring school age children. Mentoring programs motivate children to set positive life goals and reduce their involvement in negative behaviors such as crime, drugs and violence, Adopt-A School is part of the Marine Corps Commitment to ‘‘Americas Promise - The alliance for youth", according to All Marine Message 629⁄00 signed Dec. 28, 2000." Since Quantico Marine Corps Base first opened its doors in 1917 it has taken on the role of not only being the “Crossroads of the Marine Corps” but also the “Frontline of Innovation” for the Marines. As you drive through the gates of Quantico you can’t help but realize how many important enlisted and officers of the Marine Corps have also passed through those gates and under the Welcome to Quantico sign.Drive past the Marine Corps University complex where officers attend both OCS and advanced training at the War College or enlisted marines attend leadership training at the Non-Commissioned Officers Academy.  Having worked with the Education Services Officer at Quantico to bring accredited graduate degree programs to the installation I learned the emphasis that the Marine Corps places on...

As the proud mother of 12 year old Mia Ward - outstanding hitter, server, and defensive player, if I may gush - I wanted to take a moment and congratulate the St. Francis of Assisi JV and Varsity Girls' Volleyball teams for their tremendous season this year.  When I started this program 7 years ago, I had no idea it would become so dynamic and successful.  The girls and their coaches, Angie Roeske and Traci Helfer, are to thank for that.  The parents' continued support, enthusiasm and efforts to get their girls to the many practices and games were a large reason for the success of the season.  I couldn't be prouder of the girls' efforts and progress.  They are truly amazing young women - ALL of them! Congratulations to St. Francis of Assisi Girls' JV and Varsity Volleyball!!   Irene Mor...

My father was a Marine, when I was young, I never really understood what that meant until I went to this museum...it is amazing the amount of pride and honor that the people, who are Marines, have.  This museum is very dramatic...the exterior architecture is wonderful....if you have the opportunity....stop by, you won't be disappoint...http://www.usmcmuseum.org/       Homes for sale in Manassas, Homes for Sale in Haymarket, Homes for Sale in Gainesville, Homes for Sale in Vienna, Homes for sale in McLean, Homes for sale in warrenton, Homes for Sale in Bristow, Homes for sale in Nokesville Homes For Sale In Virginia Homes For Sale In Ashburn, Virginia Foreclosure listings in Virginia Homes for sale in Clifton, Virginia

Ooh-Rah! What better way to celebrate freedom, independence, honor our troops, veterans, and learn about our nation's military history (and celebrate my birthday on July 2nd) than visiting the National Museum of the Marine Corps in across the street from Quantico Marines Corps Base in Prince William County, Virginia? 36 miles south of Washington, D.C., the architecture of this impressive museum rises above travelers on Interstate 95.  Modeled on Joe Rosenthal's famous photograph of the Marines raising the flag on top of Mount Suribachi during the World War II's Battle of Iwo Jima, the museum houses exhibits detailing the Marines involvement in conflicts from World War II through the present Global War on Terrorism. Upon entering the parking lot, visitors are awestruck by the size and be...

Summer Camps are coming, ready or not!Just received your orders to Quantico?  Time to start planning, time to think Summer Camp registration. The fast paced world we live in requires us to plan a couple months in advance for everything that we do, Summer Camps are no exception.  Summer Camps are a great way for children to make friends in an new area, also a great way to give Mom and Dad a much needed break to tend to things that need to be done, unpack, hang curtains or just have a quiet moment.    I have compiled by no means a comprehensive list of summer camps in the area but at least a starting point.  I have listed them alphabetically and highlighted only some of there offerings.Adventure Bay Summer Camp  Fredericksburg (540-834-0060) and Stafford (540/658-1000)  For ages 12 months...

As with so many military bases in Northern Virginia the need to improve older base housing often means tearing down outdated housing to make way for homes that meet the needs of today’s families.  At Quantico that meant getting rid of the largest collection of pre-fab Lustron homes found in the US.Unlike a stainless steel refrigerator, owners and residents of Lustron homes could hang their children’s art work with magnets.  In fact you could use magnets all over the house because the homes were entirely pre-fabricated out of porcelain enameled steel.   The other unique feature of these homes was their exterior colors.  Unlike typical military housing which is fairly bland (loads of brick) Lustron homes came in maize yellow, dove gray, surf blue, desert tan, flamingo pink, sea blue–green...

A ring of poster boards sat on easels last night at the Ramada Inn in Triangle, each describing how the Marine Corps will study the impact of 3,000 new jobs moving to Quantico by 2011. But John Elkin, a retired engineer from Prince William, didn't need colorful charts and graphics to predict how the jobs, assigned to Quantico by the federal Base Realignment and Closure Commission, will shape the region. "Stafford County and Route 1 will probably prosper as much or more than Prince William, but it will be really good for both counties," Elkin said. He expects the new BRAC jobs will attract defense contractors to settle in the area, bringing more private-sector, high-paying jobs. The Marine Corps is just beginning the federally mandated Environmental Impact Statement process in preparatio...
