Ghent in Norfolk Virginia               There are certain neighborhoods that people aspire to and Ghent in Norfolk Virginia is one of them.  Ghent is very close to downtown Norfolk VA, and it has an exiting corridor of shops, restaurants, movie theater and lots of things to do. The land where Ghent sits used to be farmland that prior to cars  was considered far from Downtown Norfolk.  The first home appears to have been built in 1890 a 5.700 Sq Ft Mansion which happens to be up for sale at the time of the writing of this blog for a deep discount.  The majority of the homes were built up until the 1920s and in the early years the majority of  largest mansions were built. Norfolk, where are the former Short Sale/Foreclosure owners living?  It looks like they are living in apartments.  Apartment construction is booming as City Council just approved rezoning for 180 apartments called Meadowood just off North Military Hwy/International Blvd.  This would make the 7th apartment complex that has approval or has opened in the last year.  More people who would have bought in the past are now renting.  Many military personnel are only here for two or three years and have decided to rent instead of getting into the housing market also.  Of course all of this only adds to the glut of homes on the market.  Hopefully this will turn around in 2011. 08/17/2010

The city of Norfolk has partnered with SCVNGR to bring a geographic gaming platform to the DROID and iPhone.   SCVNGR is a developer of interactive geographic games.  The games can be played via the downloadable applications or via text message. I got to take my 2 boys to their first official baseball this past weekend and had a blast with them!  Norfolk Tides Baseball game on May 1, 2010 and then a fireworks show.  Because of traffic we didn't make it until the 5th inning but that's ok because I don't know if they were old enough to sit through 9 innings.  We enjoyed hotdogs, cotton candy and of course ice cream... I am definitely looking forward to summer and many more baseball games with my boys.    05/04/2010

I showed a house recently which was listed by an agent who also owns the property in conjunction with a family member.  It's obvious from the comments in the listing, the history of that property, and her ID number issued within the past 3 years, that they buy houses, "rehab" them and try to sell for a quick profit.  I had seen this particular house last summer when it was on the foreclosure market and was eager to see how they had improved it to warranty a $100k increase in value.  Boy was I surprised.  The laminate flooring had been installed incorrectly (it had a visible pattern because they laid it 3 rows at a time rather than how the instructions tell you-lazy lazy lazy); The door jambs were not cut so the hard surface flooring went beneath them as it's supposed to but went around ... 04/23/2010
