A few weeks ago, I drove up to the Blue Ridge Parkway to see about getting some photographs to use on my website and blog.  The color was disappointing this year, but I managed to get one or two pretty photographs...   This weekend, while working on our own property in Earlysville, taking care of Fall clean-up, I was stopped in my tracks by the beauty of our surroundings.   I have to say, however, that there's no color quite as stunning as the color we get from the Bradford Pears which line Bleak House Road.  They bring joy to all of us who live and walk along this beautiful road.

We are dog people. We also have and love kitties, and we love all of our birds and the various wildlife we enjoy here on our four acres in Earlysville, Virginia. But, when it comes right down to it, we are dog people. We've always enjoyed the company of Dalmatians, and the two who live with us now are Brunello, the pure bread Dal on the right, and Vino Nobile, a rescue mix. Vino has been having issues with an ear hematoma, and it finally got to the point that we had to take him in for surgery. We've been back and forth with it, hoping that it would ultimately correct itself. All of our animals have been patients of the Earlysville Animal Hospital. Dr. John Gruss has been very patient with us during this ear event, and his wife, Kathy, is the veterinary doctor who finally corrected the p...

Most of our time away from our businesses, our "home time", is spent in our gardens here in Earlysville, Virginia.  Since building our home twenty-one years ago, Stephen has focused on creating vegetable gardens, and I have invested my creative time building perennial gardens.  We've always had a bird feeder or two, but a year or so ago, Stephen developed more of an interest in our bird population.  He began buying specific feeds for specific birds and really paying closer attention to our avian friends.  In turn, I began paying more attention to my flowers gardens, and I've been adding bird-bee-butterfly-attractors ever since.    The first significant hummingbird attractor that I installed in our Earlysville garden was a Trumpet Vine (above).  Our Charlottesville area home is now surro...
