A few weeks ago, I drove up to the Blue Ridge Parkway to see about getting some photographs to use on my website and blog.  The color was disappointing this year, but I managed to get one or two pretty photographs...   This weekend, while working on our own property in Earlysville, taking care of Fall clean-up, I was stopped in my tracks by the beauty of our surroundings.   I have to say, however, that there's no color quite as stunning as the color we get from the Bradford Pears which line Bleak House Road.  They bring joy to all of us who live and walk along this beautiful road.

We are dog people. We also have and love kitties, and we love all of our birds and the various wildlife we enjoy here on our four acres in Earlysville, Virginia. But, when it comes right down to it, we are dog people. We've always enjoyed the company of Dalmatians, and the two who live with us now are Brunello, the pure bread Dal on the right, and Vino Nobile, a rescue mix. Vino has been having issues with an ear hematoma, and it finally got to the point that we had to take him in for surgery. We've been back and forth with it, hoping that it would ultimately correct itself. All of our animals have been patients of the Earlysville Animal Hospital. Dr. John Gruss has been very patient with us during this ear event, and his wife, Kathy, is the veterinary doctor who finally corrected the p...

I've had a bit of a busy week work-wise, winding it up with a sick pooch who came through some surgery okay but pretty uncomfortable.  In addition to putting on a great new listing downtown in the Woodhayven area (details to come over the weekend), I have a sophisticated townhouse condo coming on in the next few weeks (also downtown), and I'm waiting to receive paperwork back for a hot new listing near the University.  This is all good, and I'm just working my way through the paperwork, ads, and social media marketing.  Our baby Vino's surgery sort-of hung with me all week, but he did great.  We got walks in Monday through Wednesday, something that nearly always sets the stage for productive days.  I try to remember to take my camera, because I can often get amazing photographs.  If eve...

Most of our time away from our businesses, our "home time", is spent in our gardens here in Earlysville, Virginia.  Since building our home twenty-one years ago, Stephen has focused on creating vegetable gardens, and I have invested my creative time building perennial gardens.  We've always had a bird feeder or two, but a year or so ago, Stephen developed more of an interest in our bird population.  He began buying specific feeds for specific birds and really paying closer attention to our avian friends.  In turn, I began paying more attention to my flowers gardens, and I've been adding bird-bee-butterfly-attractors ever since.    The first significant hummingbird attractor that I installed in our Earlysville garden was a Trumpet Vine (above).  Our Charlottesville area home is now surro...

Loftlands Glen was developed ten years ago at the back of Loftlands Wood.  Loftlands Wood is a very nice community, but whereas the homes were primarily speculative homes by Van der Linde, housites were marketed at The Glen and most homes are custom.  As a result, they are a little more interesting, a little better quality of materials, and their prices reflect the upgrades. Loftlands Glen a small community of only 22 homes.  The lots are large, beautiful 2.5-4 acre parcels, and they sort of center around the lake, though only a couple of homes actually touch the lake.  There has been little resale throughout the Loftlands Glen community since it was developed ten years ago, but when homes come on the market, they generally sell quickly. Two homes have just come on the market at Loft...

I had the boys at the Earlysville Animal Hospital day before yesterday and saw the signs for Chesnut Grove Baptist Church's annual Easter Egg Hunt.  They hold at the beloved Union Church, originally an interdemoninational church built in 1833 on land given by the village's namesake, John Early. The Easter Egg Hunt begins at 1:30, is open to all, and, as the sign says... Bring 6 eggs!
