If you live in the Montclair neighborhood in Dumfries VA you can spend summer days hanging out at the community beach, paddling your kayak or taking your electic motor party boat out for cruise.  The 107 acre lake in the Montclair neighborhood is just one of the community amenities that make this Dumfries VA popular.  Montclair was recently ranked by Money Magazine number 35 out of 100 top neighborhoods to live. With over 3800 homes Monclair is one of the larger planned communities in the area but with the mature trees and large lots you don't feel as if you are in a typical planned community. The community offers tennis courts, multiple tot lots and the lake or you can join the Montclair County Club (a private club) for golf and indoor tennis.  Within the community boundaries of Montcla...

School is now open in Prince William County and the rest of the country. You would think all drivers would realize and respect the purpose of school speed signs and school bus lights is to protect our children. My husband and I live very close to three schools in Lake Ridge. They are all within eyesight of each other on two intersecting streets. There are more school speed limit signs with fashing lights than you can imagine. It never fails that some drivers (not necessarily teens) think they are a call to speed.Read the sign - the school zone speed limit in Virginia varies due to the location of the school and local statutes.Quite frequently, offenders will be young mothers with small children in car seats. You have to wonder what their attitude will be about an offender when their chil...

Most people think Old Town Alexandria is Virginia's oldest chartered town but they would be wrong. As you drive down Route 1 between Woodbridge and Quantico you pass through an area known as Dumfries. It doesn't seem much like a historic area but it is. However chartered one day before Old Town on May 11, 1749, Dumfries was a thriving cultural and commerce center in its time. Founded by Scottish merchants, the town had large tobacco warehouses and was the second largest port in the colonies only surpassed by Boston. Dumfries was also known as a cultural center with theaters, race tracks and artisans. When historians talk about thriving port cities of the 1700's they mention Boston, Charleston and Alexandria but not Dumfries. Perhaps part of the reason is because today there is no port. ...

Every settlement for one of our Northern Virginia military families who have been caught by the decline of market value is tough.  Fortunately for the owners of this home in Wayside Village they were eligible for the Department of Defense Homeowners Assistance Program. The home garnered multiple offers after only 4 days on the market.  The family is finishing packing for their new assignment at another post in Virginia.  If you are eligible for the DoD HAP program give Cindy Jones and CJ Realty Group a call at 703-346-2213.  We have settled 30 HAP transactions and know how not only to market your home but also how to navigate the DoD HAP process.

Update: 6/12/2011-This home went Under Contract in 3 days! Last week, I received a call from a local homeowner who lives in the subdivision called Princeton Woods in Dumfries Virginia. The woman said " I've been reading your blog LakeRidgeVARealEstateNews online and I decided to call you. This Memorial Day Arthur and I went to Quantico National Cemetery to honor those who have served defending our freedoms. He also has two friends interred there. The microphone was off as we passed the Avenue of Flags entering and leaving. We had the mike on as we passed several of the grave sites - the quiet except for the sound of the wind and birds is what makes these resting places of our veterans special. On Saturday we had the pleasure of attending an outdoor concert at the Marine Museum performed by a newly formed military group "Band Of Americas Few" whose members are former or retired Marine musicians. They concluded with "Eternal Father Strong To Save". If you listen carefully you can hear the "echo effect" during Taps at the conclusion of the hymn. God Bless America
