The Culpeper State Theater is coming back to life after years of history dating back to the 30's.  The building became severely deteriorated after 1993 when it was closed, prior to it's closing it was known as Culpeper's primary movie Theatre. The Theatre was left alone and later purchased in 2004 in the effort to save the State Theater from demolition. There was also potential for this site to be renovated in to office/retail space.  With a vision a Foundation was established in early of 2006. The State Theatre Foundation, Inc had been born. The continued vision in May of 2008, the State Theatre was placed on both the State and National Registers of Historic Places. We are pleased to be a part of a town and community with a vision. When we moved to Culpeper county in 2005, we didn't know how small of a community it  was. We chose to build a home here because of the proximity and housing prices. The country living and small town feel were an easy sale for us. While our home was being built we quickly realized there was a, as they call it here, "a good ol' boy network". Every home in our neighborhood had building code violations. Not thinking much of it at the time, while under construction, the builder bragged about his father being on the board that worked with the county inspectors, as he put it. Once we all realized  the numerous violations we knew there were some inside things going on, in no way would these issues ever pass county  inspections and receive occupancy permits.   Having fun with your photography does not need to be expensive nor do you need to travel to exotic locations to attempt some sort of visual art. These shots were taken with a free "kit lens" that came with the camera's purchase a couple years ago, a Canon Rebel XS one of the most affordable DLSRs you could buy at the time. The lens used in the extreme closeups is a telephoto cranked to 300mm shot at about 8 feet. You can make decent close-up photos without buying a special macro or micro lens which can run you $800 or more ...whoa!! ( I do want one though because you can capture insect dancing up close and personal) but...A cheap telephoto lens can do a workman like job in the meantime.                     Take your camera with you as you travel around and try more than the usual land... 03/17/2012
