Before There Were Double Ovens To Cook Thanksgiving Dinner

There were outdoor fires and open-hearth cooking. For anyone who spent time in scouting learning how to cook over an open fire or in a dutch oven was the difference between eating or going hungry. For our ancestors open fire cooking was the way to get dinner on the table every day.This weekend anyone interested in learning how prepare food with out the benefit of a double oven can join a class at the Haislip-Hall Log Cabin located in the back of the Brentsville Historic Courthouse Center in Bristow VA.The Haislip-Hall log cabin is not orginal to the Brentsville Historic Center but the cabin itself is from 1850. It was moved to the site in 2000 when it was slated for destruction for a new home development nearby. The cabin was dissembled and rebuilt on site and completed in 2008.. Af...
