Blacksburg, VA Real Estate News

YOOWAH!!  Yesterday, I screamed and whined and then went to the football game.  But when I was done screaming and whining, Jim Duncan of posted a great article that put so eloquently what I was trying to say.  He has a gift, that guy. Real estate is local.  Despite all of it's differences nationally, it all boils down to that one area, in that one town, in that one neighborhood, and in that one house.  The right house.  Thanks Jim.

A Concert for Virginia TechA Night I'll Never ForgetI'll be the first to admit that college life is the most amazing experience anyone can have. I am well aware of how fortunate I am.  I wanted to just get this out because when you hear about the day I had yesterday, a lot of you will be thinking, "I hope she knows what a great life she has."  I am a senior at Virginia Tech and as graduation inches closer, experiences like the one I had yesterday at the Concert for Virginia Tech become more and more bittersweet. I know the things I am seeing and doing here are once in a lifetime.  I woke up yesterday without the obligation of class or work so all I had to worry about was getting to the concert and enjoying life!  I left around 4pm with my roommates and when we got to the concert, Lane S...

A concert will be held this evening, September 6th, at Lane Stadium in honor of the Virginia Tech victims who were tragically taken from us on April 16, 2007.  It will continue a healing process that brought this community together and bonded them for life. The concert is a result of the generous and gracious efforts of the Dave Matthews Band, John Mayer, Nas and Phil Vassar to rebuild and heal this extraordinary community.  Tickets for the event will be free to all current students, faculty and staff and will be available to the public for $65/ticket.My daughter, Adrienne Ward, currently a senior at Virginia Tech, will be blogging about this event tomorrow and share her experience with the Active Rain community.  It promises to be an unforgettable evening. For more information on this ev...

As I sat here this morning blogging away about the back-to-school "blahs" many of our children are going through and the euphoria many of us as parents are experiencing, it struck me quite suddenly how bitter-sweet this time is for most of us in the Virginia Tech community. You see, my daughter is a rising senior at Virginia Tech.  And on that horrific morning back on April 16, 2007, my husband and I were enjoying a cup of coffee and our usual routine when we received the call."Mom, don't worry.  I'm o.k."  The time was 9:15am, only minutes before the second rampage was to begin and mark its place in history as the deadliest shooting in the US.  She lost a very close friend and fellow RA, Ryan Christopher Clark, who she was with only 8 hours before this nightmare began, and her favorite ...

This blog may not be appropriate for the groups on ActiveRain, however I have close ties to Virginia Tech and need to make this statement. If you have not heard, someone opened gun fire at Virginia Tech this morning and has killed over 30 people, mostly students. There are also many injured people. My daughter went to Virginia Tech for 5 years and got a degree in Architecture.  We had made many visits to Blackburg, Virginia while she was there. We also attended many of the football games.  It is a beautiful campus in a very beautiful town and area of Virginia. The Virginia Tech Hokies are still my favoriate college football team.I am shocked and saddened by this tragic event. My prayers go out to all the victims and their families.Mike Stankewich, Huntington Beach, California
