  While visiting my brother in Blountville, Tennessee, we drove to Abingdon, VA to see a matinee play "Southern Fried Funeral" at the Barter Theatre, the State Theatre of Virginia.  It was a hilarious play with some great lines. The theatre was packed not an empty seat in the house.  At least five buses from area churches and a bus from Raleigh NC. The play is about death, casseroles and family feuds.  If you get a chance to see this play...do as it really makes you laugh.   The Barter Theatre is celebrataing their 80th season!  I found the history of this theatre interesting. Why the name Barter? Did you know that the Martha Washington Inn was originally built in 1832 as a residence for a general? A Weekend to Remember in Abingdon Virginia! Have A Great Memorial Day! For Memorial Day weekend, my wife and I decided to get away and enjoy ourselves in the sleepy historic town of Abingdon VA.  Our adventure began at a quaint little cafe ..."Pecan 102" as we scarfed down a delicious BBQ sandwich before our ascent into White Top Mountain.  White Top Mountain is a great place that begins our journey of the famous Creeper Trail where all those who love to bike and don't quite qualify for the Tour de France can enjoy themselves for a leisurely 17 mile ride along a beautiful hiking/biking trail (with most of it being downhill)!!  The day was beautiful...sunshine and mildly cool - just perfect for a bike ride down the serene and nature filled Creeper Trail.  The city of Damascus (where Whit... 05/28/2012

Acoustic Music Jam Abingdon, Virginia There is an Acoustic Music Jam every Thursday night at the Virginia Ballroom located in the Abingdon Senior Center just off White's Mill Road.  The Public is welcome and everyone is encouraged to come to the Acoustic Misic Jam in Abingdon. This evening has something to offer to everyone of all ages, whether you are sixteen or sixty, a good time will be had by everyone. The Rain Restaurant And Bar In Abingdon Va During the Holiday Season, I recently had the opportunity to visit the Rain restaurant and bar in Abingdon Va, a new restaurant in our area that has recently opened. Abingdon Va is a great place to live and the Rain restaurant is great reason to go visit.
