I Rose to the Occasion The office manager in our brokerage is having twins! When asked to bring a dish for her baby shower, I happily agreed. It's easy to order, pick something up from the store or a local bakery but instead, chose to make it more memorable. After shopping for ingredients, I went home to create some delicious edible goodies. The results of the salami roses with mozzarella balls and basil were a hit and the ham & cream cheese rollups were divine, fresh and tasty and eye pleasing! Do you know one of the top things that makes consumer's happy when buying or selling real estate? Industry smarts or community knowledge are important but it's actually an enjoyable experience! That is something everyone can provide. Many agents fall short during the process because the main foc...

The nearest airport to Provo is the new Provo airport, but at the time of this writing, it’s not an international airport, and it’s tiny! The Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC) was the nearest international airport to Provo, Utah before Provo Airport announced they will be catering to international flights. I was surprised at how busy the SLCIA has become. It has grown in just the last 7 years. I feel like it has doubled in size. I have been flying to Salt Lake City each year for the past 7 years until I moved to Provo. I am used to seeing all the return missionaries being greeted as they return home from their missions. Still, these crowds are more than just return missionaries. Over 26 million people fly in and out of the Salt Lake City International Airport. This airport rank...

Wisdom Has Been Chasing You...Whoa, slow it down there speedy! Yeah, you, moving like a small kid on a sugar buzz, after a day trip to granny's! Stop stirring up so much chaos by running all over hell's half acre, igniting uncertainty, instead of making your mind up.Inevitably, problems will persist because of that whirlwind approach to everything in life and any excuses are like starting an argument in an empty house. When it comes to buying property, that can prove calamitous. You might be faster than a one-legged man in a butt-kicking competition but some things require time. Avoid that sinking feeling once the commitment is made by hitting the brakes, be thorough, rely on the the hired professionals. You can keep from singing the financial blues by sticking close to a budget and an af...

The first time I lived in Provo, Utah was in 1980. I was newly married with a young infant. We only lived here for a very short time before moving to be closer to family in California. Then we moved back to Provo in 1987, just seven years later. We lived here until 1990 before moving again to be closer to family — this time in Seattle, Washington. We eventually moved to Florida in 1995, and I lived there for the next 26 years. However, I always dreamed of moving back to the Provo Hills and Provo Canyon. I missed the mountains, the spirit, the people, and my church centrality. In Florida, I lived less than a 5-minute walk to the Wellington Chapel, but the geographical boundaries of our ward were so large. It was hard to connect and be close to each other, living so far from away. Most of...

What is Provo Utah Known For? Mountains, Brigham Young University, and Mormons, (members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, shortened version: LDS).Over the years, Provo Utah has grown into the second largest city in Utah. Salt Lake City is the largest city in Utah. Mormon Culture in Provo While over 93% of Provo Utah are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, there are still people who are not members of the church who love to live here in Provo. There are other Christian domination churches in Provo. Catholics have churches in Provo and there is also a Buddhist Monastery. Utah itself is ranked by the Gallop Poll as the most religious state which can be quite surprising when you think of the southern bible belt. Provo is ranked as the most religiou...

Chubby Baker in Orem, which is right next to Provo Utah is my recent discovery of the best place to get your sugar fix! They even have a sign in their window that says they are your ‘sugar dealer’. Oh my… their donuts are delicious… and I don’t even favor donuts! The only donut I tell people I will eat is a Krispy Kreme glazed donut, and ONLY when the RED Hot light is on. But … I just changed my mind! Chubby Baker donuts are so soft and delicious. Their flavors are not your typical donut flavors. Chubby Baker makes regular donuts but their claim to fame are their filled donuts and the fact they are home-made fresh. This bakery is a fusion of Asian and American ingredients and flavors. My filled donut favorites are the following: Hot Guava — Yummy with a touch of heat. Just enough to say...

My youngest son turned 21 years old. I have a tradition in my family to take the adult birthday kid out to lunch or dinner. He chose dinner at the India Palace in Downtown Provo, Utah. What a great choice! We love the different Indian regional foods from around India. Curry is one of our favorites! Since turmeric is so healthy, we can indulge in the many flavors! There is a variety of healthy and low-fat options on the menu at India Palace in Provo, Utah. Many people in India are vegetarian. This is a great place to eat out on ‘Meatless Mondays’. Since Indian cuisine does not include any beef or pork, or cuts from a cow. Cows are sacred in India. There are delicious lamb options. Lamb is on my superfoods list for my body’s biome. Lamb is also expensive even at Costco. I choose lamb en...

Plan B or Not to Be: After A Cash Cow Runs Dry Remember back when some top-producing agents insisted that they would never, ever discount their services? They became the ones that were severely tested, refusing to bend and struggled once the brisk market waned.  If you do what you can with what you have, you’ll always be MOORE successful. A cash cow that generates steady and reliable income over a long period of time, eventually runs dry of opportunities if conditions deteriorate. With no recovery plan, financial strain comes into play, bringing with it, some tough choices. When the primary focus is about serving the consumer's wants and needs with utmost respect and prioritizing the best representation possible, good things can happen. Chasing the money in any capacity results in faile...

I met our neighborhood Literary Guild ladies at the iconic Brick Oven Pizza restaurant in Provo Utah the other day. Brick Oven is located right next to the Brigham Young University campus. It is a super popular place to eat, especially for young families as it is cost-effective and they have the option of the all-you-can-eat salad bar, pasta bar, and breadsticks. I ordered the salad bar and breadsticks. I didn’t order pizza this time. This is not the first time I have been to Brick Oven. When I bring my grandchildren out for Pizza, this is one of the restaurants I take them to. They get the pizza and the pasta bar. Real or AI Generated?  Recently, Candice Donofrio brought to my attention on ActiveRain Peeps, a consumer-facing post, specific to Washington County, Utah. The ad enticed people to 'upgrade their agent'. I found multiple voids within the entirety. Upon closer inspection, the photos appeared to be AI generated, the website went nowhere, and there was no broker information, nor name, or any other information disclosed that would be required by the real estate commission. I discovered the client testimonials were also fictitious, no such homeowners existed in the county records. In this day and age of artificial intelligence, you must verify before trusting anything online. Our profession as a whole is under attack. Being a cohesive force against false advertising, unethical practices and ...

Here are five not so well-known or surprising facts about Provo, Utah: 1. Provo’s Underground Streams Beneath the city, a network of underground streams called “provo rivers” flows through ancient lava tubes. These hidden waterways contribute to the unique geography and natural beauty of the area. 2. Historic Echo Theatre The Echo Theatre in Provo was constructed in 1918 and is believed to be one of the oldest continually operating theaters in the United States. It has witnessed decades of performances and cultural events. 3. Whiskey Train Legend Provo has a whimsical legend about a “Whiskey Train” that supposedly transported spirits from Salt Lake City to thirsty residents during the era of Prohibition. While the tale is likely more fiction than fact, it adds a touch of intrigue to th...

Today is Worth Singing About! Caturday's are meant for catching up with paperwork, house chores or for spending time in the garden. Slinky and I would meet quite often in Nerdin Gardens. She would happily supervise in between cat naps and chin scratches, while her tiny paws gently padded their way into my heart. Every day is an opportunity to improve relationships by reaching out to those who matter, even if it's just a satisfying belly rub. Happy Caturday all!

Putting the NERD in NERDIN GARDENS! Every growing season, we unleash our inner 'nerd' into the back yard garden, encouraging nature to be bountiful with a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables. This Spring, we will till the soil, prepare it for growth, plant, then eventually reap the delicious rewards of all our hard work. A robust home garden takes much effort, passion and dedication, much like running a business. Maintaining the work ethic for both is crucial for success, along with implementing good daily habits. We put the 'nerd' into our back yard garden by: Tilling: Rotating natural fertilizer into the already back soil, loosens any compacted earth to allow for proper drainage, air circulation, providing space for plant root growth. Preparing: Water systems are re-installed every...

Day’s Market is my favorite neighborhood grocery store. It’s just a few blocks from my home, so I can walk there in less than 10 minutes. I remember, as a child, there were small neighborhood candy stores and grocery markets. Most of them are no longer around. Big grocery chain stores replaced the small stores. While the sales may be better at the larger chain grocers, the convenience of walking to a store and picking whatever I need for dinner is valuable. Day’s has all the essentials you need from fresh produce, an amazing bakery, your poultry and meats, all your dairy and non-dairy products, snacks, toilet paper, and all other essentials. Day’s Market also has great hours. They are open until 11 p.m., which makes dinner time much easier! Note: they are closed on Sundays. Since I li...

She said, That's like holding a listing "hostage." Sellers hire agent to sell their house. Documents are filled out entirely, after reading line-by-line and then asking if there are questions. All parties agree to and they understand the terms, sign, initial and date. Agent calls a professional photographer to take pictures of interior and exterior, plus from the sky with a drone, that also includes 3-D technology to show off the floor plan. They are given advice on removing items that might distract buyers, also recommends hiring a stager to create light & bright fresh spaces. Seller (she) is resistent to advice. Listing goes live, agent coordinates all viewing appointments. Just days later, owner (wife) says company is visiting for the next 6 weeks, requesting all showings be paused. ...
