There's a saying here in Utah: "If you don't like the weather, wait five minutes." Our weather is as varied as our terrain. Some of our mountains receive over 500 inches of snow in the winter. In the summer, parts of the state can reach temperatures well over 100°F! Spring and fall bring every type of weather imaginable. My advice? Be prepared for anything! Here it is April 7 and in Ogden Utah we are getting snowed on not just alittle but inches and I bet feet in the mountains and we are wearing coats in the spring!! Mother Nature I am not in love with you anymore we will be breaking up at least until June. Sincerely Yours APRIL Snow has been falling along the Wasatch Front from Salt Lake City northward into Ogden and Logan. In fact, 2 to 4 inches has fallen in Cache Valley and several ...

Ogden, Utah Spring Time Infrared Home Inspections Another Utah Spring Season is here. As the snow melts away it's important to ensure that moisture doesn't stay. During some recent Ogden Utah Infrared Home Inspections we've noticed and increase in home moisture intrusions. Increased levels of moisture intrusions are common in the Spring as snow turn to a water and tries it's best to enter your home. Moisture simply cannot hide from a high-powered extremely-sensitive professional grade thermal imager like the ones we use at Utah Infrared on EVERY inspection. Besides having a general thermal(Infrared)scan, there's a few things you can do to possibly prevent Spring time moisture intrusions which can lead to costly damage. SEALING SEALING SEALING should be your priority over the next few we...

Let us not forget that People’s homes are tremendously important to them emotionally.  It’s an American and human fact that we project our self image through the houses that we buy and redesign and where our children grow up — and to some measure it is our face to the community and to ourselves.”When life changes let us not judge but understand one other,  help where we can and lift where we stand.  A foreclosure or a short sale is not just the next deal it is someones storyLETS REMEMBER EVERY HOME HAS A STORY - Grab a tissue!!

Finding a home that you can see yourself in for the next five to twenty-five years is a great feeling. Don’t let that feeling cloud your judgment and leave you with unexpected issues after the closing. Here are a few things to consider before you buy: 1. Hire an expert to do your own home inspections and attend them if possible. 2. Evaluate possible repairs/immediate improvements. Ask the seller to repair them or include the cost into your bidding. 3. Purchase an environmental report. 4. Know all of the vital systems that connect to the house (electrical, sewage, heating, air conditioning, garbage disposal, and water.) Investigate the ins and outs of these systems. 5. Perform an energy audit. Confirm that your budget will match what your new home is going to cost on a monthly basis. 6. ...

Ogden Utah once again hosted the Winter Dew Tour. All competitions and festivities were wrapped up today. The halfpipe walls were an incredible 22 feet this year. You would have to physically see this halfpipe to realize just how massive it is because pictures can't do it justice. The good news is that only 5 feet will be shaved off the walls this week and the public will have the chance to give it a run. Hopefully I'll be able to get back to SnowBasin sometime this week to give it a shot and hopefully I'll live to blog about it. I'll need all the luck I can get!

Last night when driving home on Hwy 89 towards South Ogden, I spotted a group of deer. I pulled off to the side of the road to have a better look with my infrared camera but now I wish I hadn't.   Watching one of the deer try to walk was about the saddest thing I've seen in a long time. One of his back legs is completely broken, out of it's socket, and out of place and the other leg or hip must be damaged as well. The deer managed to get up and hobble about 10 yards before he finally had to lie back down. All of his injuries appear to be in his rear section because he sits up and moves his upper/front half pretty well. This deer want make it through the Winter but he will make it for quite a while which is actually the bad news. I couldn't get a very good assesment of the other deer bec...

About every 4 years I start getting the urge to trade my wheels in and every 4 years I'm sorta amazed by the evolution of our vehicles. The coolest thing about my 2008 Ford Escape is the auxiliary stereo jack and the self activated 4 wheel drive. The vehicle my parents recently purchased was almost like crawling off into a space shuttle. Keyless Entry and Keyless Cranking. Just having the key in your back pocket or stuffed off in a bag is sufficient. Heated seats are the norm but now we have AIR CONDITIONED seats and a heated steering wheel. A camera for backing up because bending your neck is soon to be a thing of the past. You can communicate with the vehicle like a person. You can tell the vehicle to make a phone call, play some country music, tell you a story, remember something, or...

Appropriately named, iOgden, this is a handy little pocket relocation guide. Right now, it's only available for iPhone, but the Android version should be released shortly. Ogden's mayor, Matthew Godfrey, is to be commended for this "first city in the nation to have an iPhone app for interactive use for visitors and citizens". There's even a way for the public to report issues, particularly code violations - unkempt yards, cars on lawns, etc. Shopping, Dining, Recreations, "Deals", City Help, Event Calendar, Attractions and that nifty little Report an Issue function. Who says that Ogden's not a cool place to be?

Ogden Utah Mold Testing On The Rise In the past 2 weeks our request for Utah Mold Testing has nearly doubled. Remember, microscopic mold spores are already in every home floating throughout the air. It takes a certain anmount of moisture to make Mold start growing like wild fire. Many homes have abundant amounts of mold spores throughout the home and yet the owners aren't even slightly aware of a possible mold concern. The recent change in our climates moisture is starting to reveal mold concerns. All that is needed for mold to grow is moisture, oxygen, a food source, and a surface to grow on. The moisture content in the Utah air has recently changed and we're seeing many home owners quickly becoming aware of mold concerns. Mold spores are commonly found naturally in the air but mold ca...

Ogden, Utah – Real Estate Market Report As we come down to the final quarter of the year 2010, I wanted to post some numbers for the last 120 days. The Ogden, Utah area is still running at about a 15 month supply of homes on the market with 593 homes currently listed for sale, and about 61 homes closing each month. The available inventory has increased over the last 12 months, from about 10 months supply to what it is now. I believe part of the difference was a small blip encouraged by the TAX CREDIT earlier in the year.   Here's a snapshot of how it looks right now: Homes On The Market Homes on the Market :593 Price ranges: $13,900 to $990,000 Median Price: $124,900 Homes Under Contract: 109 Homes Selling per month: 61   Last 120 days (Homes That SOLD) Homes Sold; 310 Price Ranges $24...

Ogden, Utah Has It's First Infrared Certified Home Inspector.   Infrared Technology used during a home inspection allows the most in-depth and advanced home inspection available. The public is quickly catching on to the amazing benefits provided by an Infrared Inspection. Once a home buyer uses an Infrared Home Inspector there is little to know chance of them ever returning to the "peek an poke" flashlight inspection.   Infrared Home Inspections are the same cost of a flashlight inspection yet offer nearly double the benefits. We are seeing many home inspectors holding back on buying infrared cameras due to the substantial costs of the equipment. A quality FLIR triple fusion Infrared Camera like the ones we use on every inspection at Power Check costs about $11k dollars. Yes, that's ver...
