Silverado 19 Theatre with IMAX opens just to the south of Tomball TX! For what seems like a long time we have been watching the Silverado 19 just to the south of Tomball off of SH 249 being built.  I remember when I saw the ground being broke.  At that point I had no idea what it was going to be and of course my curiosity was getting the better of me as it looked very big.  Then I see a sign go up that it was for a movie theatre with an IMAX.  My first response was "you have got to be kidding".  This weekend was the grand opening and  "no they were not kidding"; Northwest Houston/Tomball now boast an IMAX as of February 29th. This is the Santikos chain's eighth theater.  This is the first one in the Houston area; all the rest are in San Antonio. This is the second IMAX they have made.  ...

Wimbledon Falls is located in Northwest Harris County off of Kukendahl just south of The Woodlands.  The community is small and designed around water and all the towering pines and hardwoods that abound in the area.  The subdivision boast a scenic waterfall, walking trails greenbelts and a fishing pond.  The clubhouse has a room that can be used for private parties, a beautifully equipped 24 hour work out room and a community pool.  These are all amenities that are normally found in much larger communities.  The falls are a wonderful place to relax.  The day I was there taking pictures someone was doing a photo-shoot.  I was dodging them as I was wanting pictures of the falls and he was taking a photo-shoot of the gal around the falls. The builders are Imperial Homes, Gehan Homes and ...

For the last several years I have heard about TOMAGWA Ministries but never really knew exactly what they were until I recently went to an informational meeting.  I have to admit the name was a little confusing to me.  The name itself actually comes from Tomball, Magnolia and Waller; using the first few initials of each town.  I was surprised at how they came up with the name.  I thought it had some meaning but didn't realize it was a made up meaning.  TOMAGWA was founded in 1989 and opened its doors in 1992 as a part time healthcare facility run by a small group of volunteers.  They service individuals that live in southwest Montgomery County, Southeast Waller County and Northwest Harris County.  So even though their name implies Tomball, Magnolia and Waller they also service the surr...

Springwood is a pleasant neighborhood located between Baker road and Quinn in Tomball TX, (a hometown with a heart.)  It is approximately 30 to 35 minutes from Houston.   It is a small quiet neighborhood with towering pines, oaks and nicely landscaped yards.  There are two entrance in to Springwood.  One entrance is off of Baker Street and the other entrance is off of Quinn; which is why I have shown the two different entrances in to the subdivision. The neighborhood was developed in the late 1990's and early 2000's by DR Horton and Meridian homes.  With only about 92 homes it is a  small subdivision.  The homes range in size from 1800 square feet to 3200 square feet with most homes being somewhere in between.   Homes sales are currently in the $145,000 to $187,000 range. Typical amen...

"We spend January 1 walking through our lives, room by room, drawing up a list of work to be done, cracks to be patched. Maybe this year, to balance the list, we ought to walk through the rooms of our lives... not looking for flaws, but for potential."                                                                ~Ellen Goodman, Pulitzer Prize-Winning Columnist         As we kick off the new year "All Together," it is easy for us to get all caught up in news about what is wrong with the real estate market. The truth is that 2008 is shaping up to be a promising year for real estate, with plenty of opportunities to buy and sell in every market.   According to NAR (National Association of Real Estate) Research, there is significant pent-up housing demand that will begin to be unle...

First impressions make a significant impact on a buyer's decision-making process! After all if you really think about it a buyer has 10 minutes to decide if they want to buy and live in your house and your neighborhood for many years to come...not to mention making sure when they are ready to sell there is still a good return on their investment. So...how do we make our home appeal to a buyer in 10 minutes or less? Through Home Styling or Staging! Once your home goes on the market, it becomes a product. Home Styling or Staging simply allows you to highlight the best of your home and de-emphasize its flaws. It's not about decorating, but actually turning your home into a model, to appeal to the broadest range of prospective buyers. The goal is to make people feel like they could live the...

There are a lot of foreclosures in our area now. And you can pick up some good ideas. If you are buying a foreclosure just keep in mind that you might need to be flexible; Most of the time foreclosures take a very long time to close If you are in a hurry to move in then buying a foreclosure may not be for you. Recently, I have had several buyers that have not closed on time. When you are buying a foreclosure you are dealing with a bank; this is a lot different than when you are buying directly from a seller. And with that comes bank bureaucracy. Depending on how many foreclosures are getting closed at the time will depend on how fast your paperwork makes it through the system. The paperwork has to be approved and if there are a lot of foreclosures your paperwork can get buried in the mo...

One of the things that I LOVE about living in the Tomball area is the amenities that are available.  One of these amenities happens to be easy access to the Gulf.  Within an hour and a half  we can be in either Galveston or at the bay.  I have always had a huge attraction to the water and that is a perk of living in the Northwest Houston area that I LOVE.  Recently the Tomball Business and Professional Women's (TBPW) Fall Food Fest committee had our planning meeting at one of our member's Galveston Island Beach house for the weekend.  We caught some great sunset while we were there.  I hope you enjoyed the sunsets but while I am here I can't help but give a plug for the TBPW Fall Food Festival which is coming up on Thursday October 18th from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM at Tomball College Confer...

Mel's Country Cafe - Tomball TX If you are looking for good home cooked country meal; Mel's Country Café in Tomball TX is where you need to go.  However, you almost need to know where to look to find the restaurant.  It is off the beaten path on a quiet country road just to the west of Tomball.  I say quiet the road is fairly busy but only because of Mel's.  We happened on to Mel's shortly after moving to the area 10 years ago.  We would use the road as a cut through and noticed that there were always cars parked in front of the restaurant.  It did not matter what time of the day it seemed to be packed.  We decided to try it and have been going back ever since.  Mel's itself opened in 1994 but Mel's Mom had a restaurant in the same location from 1979 to 1987 called Mary's Fried Chicken....

I watched Main Street Crossing in Tomball being built and wondered what it was.  To be quite honest, several years later I was still confused.  I was not sure whether it was a coffee house, bar, or a place for live entertainment.  Then my friend Diane Holland started marketing for them and I found out it was all of those things but bundled in a non-profit ministry.  The roots of Main Street Crossing happened about 5 years ago when a group of people came along who felt a lot of people were missing out on getting to know God because they were not comfortable setting foot in a church.  They built Main Street Crossing and opened it as a community hangout offering food, drink, (including beer and wine), specialty coffee, tournament poker, live music, wireless internet etc. The people behi...

Tomball Train Depot Tomball is celebrating its Centennial and how appropriate that after relocation and renovation this was the year that the Tomball Depot was dedicated to once again rest beside the tracks.  When the first freight train came to Tomball back in 1907, the town was named Peck.  By the end of that year the town's name was changed to Tom Ball in honor of Thomas Henry Ball an attorney for the Trinity & Brazos Railroad who was instrumental in convincing administrators to place the line where they did.  At one time the city's spelling was even Tom Ball but somewhere in the town's history it became one word, Tomball.  Tomball was primarily a German farming community before the railroad came to town.  The railroad facility helped to enable the economic prosperity of the area.  T...
